@22mdh6 Жыл бұрын
@@ThePaulieShow It feels regarding Terry Stafford he can sing a song, hit notes, but very little feeling. Anyone can sing a song be in tune, and one could say well done,which is what Terry can do. Even I heard Simon Cowell stop people singing who have a good voice, but he says you need to put more into it, show you mean what you are singing about. That to me is Terry. When Elvis sings he he puts feeling connected to the song, be it hurt, unhappy, love, he tells a story, as a listener I and hope most people know it, he acts the story re his voice, the feelings come through, which can make one cry, laugh, tap feet. When Im sad I listen to Elvis, when Im happy I listen to Elvis, and he has/had the ability to sing to me directly, only to me, alone in my room. I can say very few people can sing like Elvis did. Iwill give you a name and song you will understand hopefully what I mean, a beautiful girl Laria Fabian, singing Broken Vow, I have heard others sing it but she is many steps further telling the story, and yes I cried, but not with others who have sung it. Elvis had a gift like no other. Kari di Kawana an opera singer(Probably wrong spelling) sang at the church wedding of the Now King Charles III and Lady Diana Spenser, when asked in the world who is your favourite singer, without hesitation she said Elvis Presley, even Pavarotti said he would love to have the voice of Elvis and had he taken opera lessons he would be world class., in that field. Sorry long comment, but trying to get over the fact Elvis is truly better than anyone in the world, and his music lives on today. One I love him singing is "Danny Boy". He truly knew how to sing it light and shade, his story telling is first class.

Both recordings are pleasant to listen to, neither one is bad, but I prefer Elvis' version. I prefer: Elvis' deeper voice. The dramatic intense way he says, 'Suspicion' vs the back up singers singing it. And I prefer Elvis' emotional delivery vs Terry's, emotionless delivery. Terry's comes off like he's just reading the lyrics, and has no connection to them, which makes the performance feel insincere. Elvis also has more range in his voice, and delivers a bigger variety of notes in this performance, which makes the song more interesting & less bland. That's my take. But I say listen to whichever one you like best. And enjoy!

I like Terry’s version a lot. Not because of his singing because he’s just trying to sound like Elvis but without even half of Elvis’s vocal range. Elvis put that song in the album Pot Luck 2 years before Terry released it as a single. He should have released it as a single. No doubt it could have been a top 5 song for Elvis if not a number 1. RCA released it as a single after Terry’s version hit the charts. I love what Terry did with the organ sound and really love the background vocals WOOing. It gives it a fun twist. All that said, vocally it’s really no contest. You only have to notice that Stafford totally avoids the belting out of the vocal “Suspicion”. He leaves it up to the background singers because it’s too challenging for him. Especially, since Elvis just belts it out with his powerful voice and he knows he’s no match. Kudos to Stafford for knowing his vocal limitations. Elvis’s version is far superior quality but Stafford’s is perhaps more fun. Not because of him but because of the unique organ sound and the backup vocalists.

Listen to the lyrics of the song and you'll hear just how bad the songwriter suffered from suspicion. It ruled his every waking moment. Since we're comparing Terry's and Elvis's versions, here are my views: Terry had absolutely nothing to prove. He was just recording a song, that's all. On the other hand, Elvis was trying to prove he could sing it better and busted his hump accordingly. I can really hear Elvis giving it everything he's got, and I think that was his reason for singing in that way. I knew a lady who used to hitch-hike a lot. She was big into self-harm, and I think hitch-hiking used to scratch that itch for her. Anyway, one Saturday evening I was performing a gig at the Redcliffe Leagues Club and my friend was hitch-hiking over to see me, after which I would drive her home. Just by happy coincidence, she got a lift from a guy named Jack. Now Jack was a Karaoke singer who gave every song he sung a dash of Elvis in his vocal delivery. Turns out he'd heard of me and even though he wasn't planning on going all the way to Redcliffe, he took my friend all the way there and even came in to meet and chat as I was setting up. Nikki told me: He's you in a smaller body! It's unbelievable how similar you guys are. Now I wouldn't say that was the case at all, me not being an Elvis-style singer, but being more hard Blues and possessing a rough gravelly voice, and being a top-shelf Blues guitarist . . but to non- musicians, anyone who is a musician is exactly like any other musicians, so I let it go at that. Jack was about my height, but had a smaller more athletic frame than my powerlifter's heavy-set, heavy duty body. He even had a goatee kinda like mine as well. He gave me a copy of his CD, which he'd recorded using karaoke backing tracks in a studio. To my ears. he did sound a lot like Elvis, but lacked the sheer power of Elvis's delivery. But all the same, it was a pleasant enough CD to have playing in the car stereo while I was driving Nikki home. Included in the set list was Suspicion, and Jack sounded enough like Terry Stafford to spin me out!

@user-lg3ne4ve2o Well, considering the song was on Elvis' Pot Luck Album in 1962 and if you have been reading these factual comments, Terry Stafford recorded his version/cover in 1964. He didn't write the song either! As you probably well know by now! You can't dispute musical history by turning it into what you want it to be.

ELVIS HAD IT OUT FIRST! I think that was kind of unusual, as Elvis did tend to cover a lot of songs...of course, adding his own touch. Still, Terry did a fantastic job! I really can't pick one version over the other, as the quality of the technologies don't seem to be the same. I need a contest where the musicians are in the same studio with the same equipment and staff, in order for me to make a call on this one!

I had heard that Elvis admired Terry's version. More so than his own. Elvis was not the prima donna to belittle another artists work. The up beat tempo and especially the ladies in the chorus really makes Terry's a classic. Terry tragically died of liver failure at only age 54 in 1996.

Elvis rode on lots of songs making them more famous and bigger and he was bless with great talent, the only song i wish Elvis should had do over but he never did, is jingle bell rock, i would've love to hear his version of it , but since i can initiate him very close i does it and i can imagine how it would've sound if he'd it in his time.

@@nemesisprime2993 I'm glad that you grew up to recognise A Master of his own Art. As you will know, Elvis put all of his emotions into a song whether Rock, Ballads, , or Gospel. He sung many varieties of song. Even the late, great Little Richard had a go at singing a ballad (although not many) - ( Send Me Some Lovin') yet he couldn't sing a ballad the way Elvis did. Although Terry Stafford sang Suspicion in his own way, he didn't or couldn't put in the same emotion as Elvis did, that's why Terry's version sounds more light-hearted. So ..... Keep on Rockin'!!
