Is knowledge of him something that came about after the cold war ended or was his music available during the 'Soviet years' as well? I'm not sure what of 'western culture' was available during those years (both music and TV/Movie wise), but I find that to be very interesting to learn about.

It takes a good kind heart and a good soul to admit they were wrong. There is OVERWHELMING evidence that supports his love and admiration for the black community - he came from there - that was Elvis' community growing up dirt poor in Tupelo, surrounded by his neighbours and friends who supported him, no one there saw colour. Look up Sam Bell - one of his closest buddies growing up.

I laugh sometimes, when I think back, at the time I would tell people, I slept under Elvis once... he was on the 30th floor at the Hilton. I was on the 23rd... I went to Las Vegas Nevada in 1973, and stayed 5 days at the Hilton, seeing Elvis 6 times that week. Delightful time in my life. I really wasn't lying.

Yes, Elvis was great, but those Sweet Inspirations were stunning in their own right. Elvis chose those ladies for a reason, and the reason was obvious.

@ashley dunaway Myrna Smith died the day before Christmas in 2010. I believe she had Pneumonia. Myrna was a wonderful singer. Sylvia Shemwell who was also in the Sweet Inspirations died 2010 as well.

So Lovely to hear her Memories & how close his back up group were to him. He treated her with respect as a "brother" he said not a BOSS! Must be real Special to look back on those Memories of singing Gospel together for hours! Having fun eating, talking, singing. You can tell she genuinely cared & loved him.

I like the fact that he ran his own rehearsals. Most of these guys have a music director do all of that work for them and aside of the actual soundchecks and shows they never really see the star. He was involved with his entire group. Respect for that.
