That's bs. You take salt tablets because you're sweating too much. In college back in the 70s, I was a pitcher in college in Miami Florida. Unlike today, I was a starter and pitched 9 innings. During the game because of the heat and the loss of fluid, the trainer had me take salt tablets, not to inhance sweating but to prevent cramping. Simple as that. Elvis is the man!

David, I was taught actually the opposite. Salt tablets help you retain the minerals lost in profuse sweating. We used to take them at summer camp to help us not dehydrate only really hot days. Maybe it was different for different uses, but people with high blood pressure need to stay away from salt bc it makes them retain water. I don't know, really. I may be way off base.

I honestly think they coined the pills “salt “tablets. Obviously, if you eat a bunch of sodium, you’re gonna retain water. So if you take pills to make you drop water weight, it would be a diuretic. But the water that you retain is from carbs or sodium intake. so, that’s what I think it actually is

@@ElvisistheMan_ Diuretics can actually decrease sweat production! Diuretics work by making the body excrete more sodium into the urine, which then increases the amount of water flowing out of the body as URINE not SWEAT. Not everything written is truth. Guralnick's explanation may be truth, it may not be, or may be it is 1/2 truth. And because Graceland said it still doesn't convince me. It may truth, it may not be. I've heard contradictions from Graceland & from those who knew & lived w-him for 20 yrs. Depending on how many tablets you take, it can cause water retention. Some of the possible side effects are joint pain, shortness of breath, fast heartbeat. Too much can also cause a decline in kidney function. It can also throw off your entire electrolyte balance. You cannot take salt tablets indiscriminately for a particular reason & not know what damage you may be causing to your organ system. But you can stand under those mega hot house lights & stage lights naked & perspire profusely. So imagine the perspiration when in one of those jumpsuits.

Guralnick doesn't give any explanation. If Graceland pretends that everything written in Guralnick's book would be the truth about Elvis, Graceland is a huge problem. This quote from Larry Geller read carefully sounds like a joke between Jackie and Elvis. Nobodoy never said that Elvis would have taken salt tablets to attract girls by sweating more. It makes no sense. Why would Elvis have been looking for any trick to attract girls in 1966 ?

I worked outdoors for over 20 years and when I sweat so much I'd get nauseous and would eat pretzels that had a lot of salt to take the nausea away. I read that you can have an imbalance in your system if you didn't have a certain amount of salt in your system.

David, I see the article but something got mixed up between Jackie telling Elvis what he took and what the reporter printed. They were not salt tablets, salt makes the body retain water. Now if he would've taken salt tabs days before the show to hold onto water and then 2 nights before the show he stops taking in salt then that would've made him sweat more on show night but to take a handful of salt tabs the night of the show, that would've had the opposite effect of what they wanted as they would've had less sweat on show night. I dont know what Jackie told him to take but salt would not have worked. No big deal, there was a mix up somewhere. Reporter got it wrong or did Larry hear wrong, did they actually take salt and think it was gonna work, we will never know what actually happened but salt makes you sweat less if taken on show night

@@sandralybrand9425 Yes Maam, diuretics like lasics shed the water from the body but primarily it does it by making you urinate more not by making you sweat more. I think what happened is Jackie thought he was sweating more from salt pills and he told Elvis and both of them took the salt pills but it did not make them sweat more because it just doesn't but both of them thought they were sweating more. Sweating more comes from being hot so it was the lights and performing that was making them sweat not salt pills. The salt pills actually made Elvis more bloated so it was making him look worse instead of making him look better but back then they just didn't know. The Placebo effect is very powerful though and if they thought it was working then I'm sure they kept taking them.

Granted, if he did use salt, it's hardly the unforgivable sin. But believing all of these sources is creating an Elvis that may be different from the real one. I don't give any validity to these "books." They mix truths with untruths and that is the bait that makes us believe. Salt tablets are taken to replace the salts and minerals lost during profuse sweating. When my mom was in college, she was a part of the College Review Shows in 1962 at Six Flags Over Texas. At that time, it was an outside amphitheater. She tells the story of them all having to take salt tablets because they were sweating so much and needed to replace the minerals lost while performing two shows a day in the heat of our Texas summers.

Just another Elvis 'story'. A quick google search shows that salt tablets prevent you from sweating too much, not more. Maybe he could have taken them for heat cramps but not to sweat more. The more you know...
@ElvisPresleyWorldwide

This is the kind of obscure stuff I love about your channel. Jackie undoubtedly told Elvis what Guralnick wrote, but his science was wrong. Athletes take salt tablets to retain fluids and prevent cramps during exercise due to excessive perspiration. In later years, Elvis alternated from Mountain Valley water to Gatorade. Growing up in Tupelo and Memphis - Elvis didn't need any help sweating! His facial pours were huge because of it!

Thank you I am glad you find these type of topics interesting! Whatever I think is interesting, that’s what I share!. I personally think that when they say “salt “tablets they mean, dropping water from eating too much salt. When you eat too much salt or carbs your body retains water, so when they say “salt” pill I think they mean dropping water retention like a diuretic.

So I love Elvis. Me and my wife just watched the Elvis movie again for the fourth time. She's not even an Elvis fan but she enjoys the movie. But let's just be honest as much as I love Elvis and I like all areas of Elvis good and bad. The guy was weird. LOL. To take salt tablets to sweat is a different one for me, but that's why I love Elvis. He was a unique guy
@lillyd2246

The guy only looks weird when you're misinformed. Compare different books written by those who were there or interviews. And you'll notice the way they make Elvis look weird. The main events or decisions in Elvis life make sense if we check informations and put them in their real context.
