Courtney, you said it absolutely right- this kid manifested Elvis, he inhabited him and I saw it in the very first trailer; little gestures and movements I'd seen Elvis do in "That's The Way It Is" and "On Tour" a dozen times the past 20 years that I immediately noticed and recognized- he really did the Method actor thing to an extent, but it paid off. Butler didn't just rely on a vocal impression/accent, he embodied Elvis and that's why Lisa Marie (whom I'd imagine is a harsh critic) fully celebrated his performance.

No matter how many times I watch this film I always forget that it is a film. It feels so much like a concert film because the performances are just so raw and real! I get so lost in the story I don’t think about how Austin is just an actor and not actually Elvis, but the way he just owns the dances and the singing, and the cinematography and editing, it’s all just seamless.

I have been in Elvis fan since 1958. Elvis was definitely one of a kind. But Austin Butler throughout the movie did such a great job portraying Elvis. At some points in the movie it was like going back to seeing the real Elvis perform. I think Baz did an excellent job of letting the audience become aware of Elvis's roots as an Entertainer. There were scenes in the movie that were heart-wrenching for me. And I can't imagine how his family felt especially Priscilla watching this movie. If you were a fan of Elvis or not a fan, I think most people would agree that Austin Butler and Tom Hanks are worthy of an Oscar.

I am 73 and qualified to review because I saw all his movies from Germany on. Saw performances in Vegas and of course knew all the news about him. He really WAS the most famous man on the planet. Austin has embodied his persona plus performs as Elvis did! It's quite shocking. I couldn't speak coherently for 5 mins as we left the theater. But I knew I'd go back again because I wanted to see if Austin really did it, or if I was imagining it because I was such a fan. All other movies about elvis should be put on a dusty shelf. Kurt Russell stayed as kurt the entire movie, he never became elvis. He never acted the part. Austin is a true actor. Give him the Oscar. Lisa Marie will be in the audience, bet on it.

@@doge7830 I thought it was a real case bad casting and it was only a few years after Elvis died! By that time Kurt was too well known from his days at Disney. Kurt doesn't act he performs as himself like Tom Cruise does. That's OK but not when portraying an icon. He dyed his hair black but that's the only tbing that was like elvis. I'm sure Kurt is embarrassed by the movie he did.

Everything we see is recreation of actual performances. I've seen some of them in clips. Also there are videos of elvis in documentaries with his band, practicing telling them "go up an octave", etc. Elvis worked his band as hard as he worked. He was always dressed up too. The movie recreated some scenes based on Priscilla memories and Jerry schilling. But some of it was for dramatic effect like firing him onstage.

Austin Butler has, in my opinion delivered something the likes that no-one has seen before.. and you won't see another portrayal of such an icon. Just consider he's going to portray Elvis, some might think "great, seen it before so what" But Austin does not portray Elvis, he becomes Elvis. When some say Elvis is still alive they could be seen as a bit crazy. That's not the case anymore because Elvis is clearly alive. This movie and Austin Butler have given me my all time number one favourite movie. I'm 52, I knew who Elvis was but was never my taste or interest until I saw this movie. Now, after decades since his passing, I am also a fan of the great Elvis Presley. His music is on my playlist, I watch his concerts and I'm a fan all thanks to Austin Butler showing me the real Elvis.

I think one can say Austin Butler has done everything it takes to mimic Elvis. He's covered all the bases and has made a lasting iconic film auto biography to one of the greatest musicians of the modern age. That said, no one can replace the real Elvis Presley as Elvis had the look to go as well, there is no one that can replace Elvis and what he can do on the stage.

I was a “fan” but I’m 44 and the only Elvis I new was fat Elvis and my mom never listened to him. I then watch this movie and now I am obsessed and completely understand why everyone was captivated back then. My mother in law was one of them! I don’t watch the Oscar’s but I will to see if Austin wins.
