@jdorffer ? If Fraser was so deserving he would have won with international voters. Austin was so good half of what he did went over the heads of people who weren't avid or lifelong Elvis fans. Austin also had too much class to quiver and cry in public pandering for votes from soft Americans. You didn't see him milking Lisa Marie's death at BAFTA the way Fraser did his story at Critics Choice and SAG. It's telling that Austin won with international bodies: Foreign Press Golden Globe, UK BAFTA, Catalonia Sant Jordi, Australia AACTA International, South African Online Film Critics, International Press Academy Satellite, Irish International category at IFTA, CinEuphoria. Austin was also named to the Top 100 Influential People in the World by Time Magazine. Showing that Fraser's comeback and "Me Too" story means nothing from an international perspective when considering acting performance. Minus the fat suit we've seen Fraser's performance a million times and will again, and his dramatics were no better than Austin's away from the Elvis specifics, such as when Gladys dies, Priscilla leaves and when he screams at Parker on stage and when he yells at Parker and Vernon in the hotel lobby and suite. Also, there are only 3 highly prestigious film awards for acting recognized around the world, The Golden Globe, The BAFTA and the Oscar and Austin won 2 of them and both vs Fraser. SAG and Critics Choice (other U.S. bodies that Fraser won with) don't make a single list for worldwide recognition. The Golden Globes (1944) BAFTA (1949) along with the Oscars (1929) all make every list of not only significant global film awards, but awards in general, including the Grammy, Nobel and Pulitzer. The Oscars have and agenda based on lifetime achievement and comeback narrative and American voters in general lean this way, not to mention the obstacle they create for those in their first lead role, which is why he won 15 Breakthrough Performance or Most Promising awards from other U.S. organizations. For the record, here are all Austin's wins as Elvis, not including his 15 Breakthrough performance awards The Hollywood Foreign Press/Golden Globe (Best Performance in a Motion Picture -Drama) The British Academy of Film and Televison (Best Leading Actor) The Australian Academy of Cinema and Televison International and Domestic (Best Lead Actor) Sunset Circle Awards (Best Actor) South African Online Film Critics (Best Actor) International Press Academy/Satellite Award (Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical) People's Choice (Drama Movie Star of 2022) The Minnesota Film Critics Alliance (Best Actor) Sant Jordi Award (Best Actor in a Foreign Film) CinEuphoria Best Actor - (International Competition) North American Film Critics (Best Actor) Alaska Film Critics (Best Actor) Next Best Picture (Best Actor) Family Film Awards (Best Actor) Starring Film Awards (Best Actor in a Music Film)

I can't speak for the accuracy of the story here, but the scenes from Elvis's childhood and the two performances (the Arthur Crudup and the revival) really built up to this scene perfectly. In both the Crudup performance and the revival you see, not only the musical elements of Elvis's style, but the energy that he brought to it. The secular side - that is, the power of physical attraction - and the sacred - the feeling of being uncontrollably swept up in the energy of what's happening around you (In the words of the minister in the revival scene, "the spirit") - collide with each other, and the results are Elvis's performance and the audience's reaction to it. 1:41 - this part never fails to give me chills.

I had about a 3 hour flight Vegas and I got headphones and went through the list of movies. So on the way to Vegas I had enough time to watch one and I choose the new Elvis movie with Austin Butler. I kind of liked it but not the role that Tom Hanks played as Colonel Parker. That bothered me,knowing he got away with so much and hurt Elvis over the years, and No one intervened. Plus Austin didn't look like Elvis like some of the other Elvis movies. On the way back home, I decided to watch it again, the second time. For some reason, I Loved It! Austin didn't have to look like Elvis to play Elvis. That's how good the movie was. He knocked it out of the park. I ignored the only movies Tom Hanks did Bad...seeing that all his other movies were Hits! I loved Elvis the movie. A remarkable job!!!!

I only wish they could of got another actor for Colonel Parker. I doubt Tom Hanks Ever had a bad part, Until Now

My aunt is a massive elvis fan. Like im talking she has an entire room dedicated to this man and was growing up when he hit his peak. She knew eveey detail of elvis down to the minute of his death and what shoes he was wearing. She was the president of a freaking fan club in high school she was so into him. She watched this movie and was floored by how good austin was. She was blown away by how good he captured elvis and was saying afterwards she may have found a new man 😂 austin freakin killed this role and ots a shame the academy didnt recognize him

I really enjoyed this movie from a different perspective. One movie critic commented that this wasn't a beat for beat documentary but, a "superhero" movie and I totally get that which I enjoyed from that aspect. Very well done. And Austin reeeally started looking like Elvis when he aged later in the movie.
