The pilots gave an incredible spectacle for her final season. I really miss that howl! What an amazing aircraft, like so many other British aircraft of her day, well ahead of her time! It brings tears to my eyes too! I cannot believe an engineer whose brain is actually working would ever design this utter piece of crap! The radar cross section is just horrible. The thermal signature is bad and the acoustic signature is off the fekking charts. The range is really bad too. This was supposed to be a bomber - lmfao! Do you see a single country making aircraft that looks as bad as this one? No. Why is that? If it is soooo good they should be lining up to buy them, right? All this crap is now scrap and for very good reasons. The same is true for the Harrier 'jump jet' - yet another violently expensive and useless POC all paid for by the UK tax payers who have f*ck all clue about anything - let alone engineering. aerodynamics, aircraft design and the like ... don't even go into EWS. Have you been inside the cockpit of the Vulcan - I have. There is a very good reason this plane was binned. I have made many systems for many military applications and I worked my ass off and have nothing to show for it. Cost of living, that is what I am told. I am an engineer and I know what is crap and what needs to be binned. I have also taken old stuff and made it less useless.

Over hearing one of the pilots on the loud speaker some one asked how long it took to cross y the Atlantic Ocean in the Vulcan bomber. The pilot joked about that by referring the ocean as " you mean the.POND ?". it was and still is a beautiful looking bomber The Arvo Vulcan. Paine Field is in Everett Washington.

Magnificent aircraft! Living in New Zealand, I have only had one chance to see one flying, and that was memorable. At the air show held on the Wellington Airport opening day in 1959. In turbulent condtions. A Royal Air Force Avro Vulcan bomber aborted its landing when it touched down short of the runway, rupturing its left main landing gear drag link, the wing attachments and engine fuel lines; the aircraft flew to Ohakea air base where it was stranded for several months being repaired. To a 12 year old boy, it was an amazing sight to see all these aircraft but I didn't expect such a display.

I was watching that too from Seatoun Heights. I also saw one in 1956 when it flew very low over Strathmore Park school. I was out in the playground and my five year old brain thought it was at fifty feet! It must have been very low because many years later I mentioned it to my mother, she remembered it because she was looking down on it. It flew back to London and crashed.

I remember in the 80’s during Abbotsford (BC Canada) international airshow. We were sitting on a small hill a short distance from the airport when a Vulcan flew over. I never forgot the crazy howl and the apocalyptic levels of noise. That was the heyday of airshows in Canada with so many cool aircraft flying but the Vulcan really stole the show for me that year. I saw a Vulcan do a fly past at Barnes Wallis' funeral in 1979 at Effingham church in Surrey, which was just behind my house. It was a dull day with low cloud and I thought that the flypast would be cancelled, but it came in very low with lights on, flying slowly and astonishingly quietly by any jet's standard and was the more impressive for that, looking dark and huge under the cloud. It must have been well away before it increased power to regain some height as I never heard much noise.

Kev continued ~ ‘I always aim to use 135 degrees of bank in the wing over. It is a little harder to judge after a zoom climb, because of the nose of the aircraft. It’s a lot higher and therefore the horizon is harder to see. On Saturday, I aimed for 135 degrees as normal but in reality I think I ended up around 150 degrees’. Stewart Campbell, Red 4 of the Red Arrows said after what was a an epic flypast: ‘It was a true highlight of my career to fly with such an iconic British aircraft as the Vulcan. To see it fill my rear view mirror as we lined up to run in at RIAT, is an image I will never forget - it was huge! Gooner05 Kev didn't get his ear bent. Quoted from someone who was there.... on the far side of the airfield. Actually, what happened was that another pilot, a Display Authorisation Evaluator, saw the take-off manoeuvre, and spoke to the Vulcan captain later about it. The Vulcan captain then went, off his own bat, to see if the Flying Control Committee had any problems with it. After much consulting of rule books, the FCC decided that no rules had been broken. So, no yellow card. The issue wasn't with the flight envelope during the display, but the rather low manoeuvring of the aircraft directly after takeoff.
