We emailed 100 TOYOTA DEALERS in Florida and California and asked for an OTD price on a 2024 RAV4 XLE! So...did Toyota dealers come correct and actually give Zach what he requested, or did they largely clam up like the Ford dealers in our last experiment??

I went to the local Toyota dealer and they had no sales people on the floor. I was allowed to just wander around. Finally the manager asked me if I'd been helped, I said no and he took me to a room full of sales people who were all on the phone. They had about 150 trucks on their lot, maybe 3 cars. I think they were all desperately trying to sell the trucks using cold calls.

I am very lucky as I have dealt with the same dealer (Toyota of Puyallup, WA) for five cars over 22 years or so (three Priusi and two RAV 4 Hybrids). RAV 4 Primes were hens teeth (met a guy a little over two years ago who paid 90K for a Prime SE) especially in WA State. Not only was I able to corral a '24 RAV 4 Prime XSE with both packages, got 500 off. They had none in stock, rarely do, but a metallic Silver Grey showed up about three weeks ago with all the bits and buyer backed out. And I got her for 51.5K. No grand steal (sticker was 52,250) but I still feel like its a win. Great shop dept as well. And the doc fee was 150 bucks, no other charges outside the appropriate ones.

Going through a similar experience with Toyota dealers on a Camry using your template. So far, only a single response, and after I said I was ready to put down a deposit, I've heard nothing else. You are right about the distributer forced options. My favorite is $79 for a phone cable for use in car with Qi charging and wireless CarPlay (so you wouldn't even use the $5 cable), or the $59 First Aid Kit. Or the $699 for three years of oil changes (two years of oil changes is already priced in the car). I also had a deposit with a dealer for six weeks for a car in build phase. When I inquired about it, they said they sold it to somebody else for more. Nice.

The $699 is most likely for all mandatory services according to the manufacturer's schedule. It may include other things as well. That may or may not be a value. I would most likely not buy it.

You can google it if you want to know exactly what it is, but it is primarily an extension of the already included ToyoCare, roadside assistance as comes with many credit cards these days, "fabric protector", etc. I don't care to buy any forced options.

My wife and I just emailed 13 MD/DC area Mazda dealers for a 2025 CX-5. 8 replied, but no OTD offers. Over 3 weeks I received 94 emails, mainly from bots. We used the CarEdge system to determine a good price, so I finally sent the 8 responders that we would come in the next day Oct 31 (strategy) for the first dealer that would guarantee our price (I went for 200 lower than your calculated good price). 15 minutes later, I got a positive reply so we made the appointment. When the manager came over after our test drive he put the written offer we asked for on the table and we drove away happy that we got what we wanted (including those annoying "already installed" extras that we didn't want - included). Thanks Zach and Ray. BTW, most replies just kept asking us to come in, ignoring my explicit requests. Still getting calls and texts despite my sending all the dealers an email thanking them for participating and noting that we purchased a car.

I emailed 21 Toyota Dealers near the Washington DC, Northern VA, MD area for a base model Rav4 LE (non-hybrid) and the best OTD price I was able to get was a measly $500-$1000 off. 80% of the dealers were set on MSRP and one even said they were not going to talk any numbers until I go into the showroom.

As a Salesperson and FSM Sales Consultant at a Toyota store here in Canada, we don’t pressure customers into buying accessories or extra products they don’t want. Our focus is always on transparency and giving the customer exactly what they’re looking for. However, keep in mind that most customers will end up paying the listed price on new cars, with the exception of a $500 loyalty discount. Be cautious when you see big discounts upfront - sometimes a $3K discount at the front end can be offset by add-ons later in the process, potentially costing you more in the back end. Always ask for Toyota rates or better if the FSM can manage the task of shopping and buying down rates to a sweet spot where everyone wins.

Toyota has god like status here in Canada. Customer are lining up to buy their vehicles no matter what. Even with all these new issues with their new trucks, it’s hard to negotiate with any Toyota dealer. You just have to pay sticker price or walk away.

I emailed 3 dealers in my area for a new RAV4. All were MSRP. I bought one because it just hit the dealer lot and was the color/interior I wanted. I got a good trade in value and doc fees were low with no crazy add ons

Bravo Central Florida Toyota! Here's an analogy to what CarEdge says car dealers should be doing: it used to be that realtors couldn't wait to slap an Under Contract or Sold sign on their For Sale yard signs once they had a good offer. A decade or two ago, realtors realized that doing that killed an opportunity to build a relationship with others looking to buy. So now they leave the For Sale sign up as long as possible and respond to everyone contacting them.

I used to sell machining fluids and other industrial chemicals as part of a chemical sales job and I'd reply to every customer call even if it was only for a 5-gallon container. I found out I was the #2 salesman for machining coolants in the USA, most of my sales were small lots while the #1 guy had three big accounts, but one of my small customers got a big order and it turned him into a major account for me. It pays to return all your calls and follow-up with customers.

When I've tried over the years, about 50% would respond, but every response wanted me to call or come in to talk about it. When I explained I had a 500 mile search radius and didn't mind driving, but would not drive without some idea of the kind of deal offered, every one of them still wanted me to drive or call first. Selling on the Internet is a nice idea, but it' just an extension of the salesmen walking the dealership lot.

You will get a much higher response rate if you just call them, and then follow up with an email once you have the name of the Internet service manager. Most dealer email addresses are black holes that never get read. I have purchased cars this way for 20 years, and usually get about a 50% hit rate, after I confirm over the phone whom to send the specs to.

When I worked at a new car dealership there was 1 person assigned to online sales, usually the sales manager buddy. That was few years ago and it's properly changed a bit but I think it's just couple of people assigned to do that. They are either swamped or not really interested because they are stuck in the come in and we will talk method.

My Toyota dealership that I ordered my Rav4 XSE hybrid from doesn't charge above MSRP. But my car will arrive with several port installed options (PIO). A few of them I want, but others I don't want. However I have to accept - and pay for - all of them. That negates the benefit of not having a market adjustment.

The fact of the matter is spending time back and forth on emails takes a lot more time than the person standing in front of them at the dealership who wants to drive home in a car that moment. That's the fact about Toyotas right now. I was shopping for a mini van recently and not one Toyota dealer in my city had one for me to test drive because they were all pre-sold out for weeks.

Toyota dealer offered me $9,000 for a 2016 Toyota Venza, XLE AWD. I laughed and walked out. Sold it on FB MARKETPLACE for $13k, which is still a good deal. Toyota said they’d list it at $16,500 in the used lot. Fort Worth Texas

I have lived in Las Vegas for almost 40 years and our market regarding dealerships is a cesspool. There are so many shady things that happen here the most popular one is a desert protection package. They put an addendum sticker next to the factory sticker with about $3000 in upgrades this has been going on for 30+ years, the claims are that they have upgraded radiators and belts to withstand the desert heat which is complete BS

Great deals on Tundras (2024s) are to be had for sure. Just got one last weekend for 10,000 off the MSRP from a dealer in PA (and the doc fee was only 387). Sincerely hope that dealer was NOT on your 'no response' list because they were GREAT w/ my - provided EVERYTHING via email and all I had to do was to show up with a check.

Toyota went overboard with the prices and dealerships are scum of the earth. I have bought 5 Tacomas, 1 Corolla cross and 1 rav4 in the last 5 years. It’s always problems with the dealers. I had a sales guy tell me I’m buying too much truck if I can’t afford 48k. I was putting 30k down.

Another statistic I’ve found in “working with” Toyota dealers is that there is probably a 95% chance that, rather than answering my questions about the vehicle I’m interested in, they will ask me “So, can I schedule you for a time today or tomorrow to see the vehicle?”

Unfortunately, one dealer, the supposed Internet Sales Manager, sent me this reply to my question regarding the manufacturing date of the car. "I didnt say it was manufactured in 2024. It was built in 2023 that is why it has a 2023 build date listed on the vin plate. How do you think people buy next year's model before the year actually starts? We typically get next year's model in Oct or Nov."😞

I’m surprised Central Fl Toyota was the best OTD price! I actually got my brand new Corolla from them in July. While I feel like the car itself was overpriced, at $30k with window tints and all weather mats, my interest rate was really fair (5% I think) and my monthly payment was $280. I also wasnt totally happy with the in person experience, they have over 70 salesmen and we were there for 2 hours. Packed house. Finance manager actually told us we were wasting his time. But this makes me feel like I got a really good deal.

I'm actually thinking about buying an Audi A7. That's not one of their top sellers so it might be interesting to see what you can find out. One thing to keep in mind is Audi supports a 6% discount via the Audi Club but I'm not sure all dealers do.

Its been many years since ive shopped for vehicles and I know we just went through a strong sellers market, but is actually caring about MSRP a thing now? Ive always just requested to see invoice and negotiated off that, even if they dont make much beyond the invoice price they still get dealer holdback. I know make and model matters a lot there as well. Also these accessory packages have always been crap and its too bad to see its just getting worse. $4k for premium audio when I can put an Amp, a subwoofer, and 4 nice mids in for $1k that will knock the socks off anything these dealerships are giving you for 4x that. Most any accessory you add is money just pissed away, youre not getting most of that back. Its always been tough to just get a base model with no add-ons though because they want people buying their ridiculously marked up crap.

I am not really surprised for so few responses. It is so easy to send numerous emails* that I suspect that many dealers receive hundreds if not thousands per week. They realize that the likelihood of making sales from emails is so low that responding is a poor use of resources if potential buyers are calling or physically on site. Responding to emails would make sense only if business was so slow that sales people had no customers and nothing else to do. That is probably why the Ford dealerships responded. The sales people had nothing else to do, so even time spent with a low probability of a sale was better than nothing. *One of the posters here wrote "I emailed 21 dealers ...". I also suspect that the vast majority of emails are from people who are "just looking" and not really serious. The person who sent in the "winning" bid was a fan of the show and realized that he could essentially use CarEdge for advertising and was fully aware that he would not actually be selling a vehicle.

It’s the entire American industry like that not only auto dealerships. You will be surprised how people in other countries can find right away out the door prices or prices to other goods not only vehicles. Salesmen here always playing games. They want to find out how much money you have in your pockets and give you a price convenient to them. In other countries, you just go and ask two simple questions how much it costs and can you do a lower price? People don’t go around they go straight to the point. If not, turn around and leave.

Does it really coming down to find a needle in a haystack (a deal?). My last 2 cars (Honda Accords ) I bought via Consumer Reports and their dealers' network (the ones willing to participate). True, there are many less dealers willing to participate in this now, as compared to 5 yrs ago - but there are. And the quotes for Accord/CR-V, and Camry are coming below MSRP. Worth checking.

good video for me to comment on my european experience at Toyota they had the car on the lot I wanted it after 4 yes 4 visits I still had no contract and only crazy propositions...the salesman even told me at the last visit he sold it to someone for a 6 years lease when I only wanted 3 max, why do Toyota employ such people that clearly don't work for the manufacturer he could have sold 2 cars instead sold 1 and pushed me away visited 2 other dealership and they too didn't care to sell me a car so I gave up I'm waiting for the hopefully competitive next-gen hybrid Forester

2025 Camry LE loses its standard power seat from 2024 Camry LE before. Uncomfortable seats and weak cushions are common problems now.

We were out shopping for a Honda cry hybrid and stopped in our tracks with the added fees for accessories pkgs. pkgs we didn’t want. Dealer then said they wouldn’t charge for added pkg but that really,isn’t a deal is it? Car buying has gotten so complicated these days. Still haven’t bought anything

How is there a port installation on say toyotas manufactured just north of evansville Indiana? Doesnt just come out of Princeton INdiana plant with that stuff built in or tossed in (matts) and put on a shipping truck to dealer_ Toyota lists it all on the window with grand total TSRP.

Can you do used cars? I just went to a dealer to buy a used 2015 Tesla model S that was advertised for 20k. I get to the dealership to take a look, price tag says 30k. I negotiate down to the advertised price and they say that’s the lowest. No negotiation at all. Would be great if you can negotiate used car sales

Car dealers have no incentive from their manufacturer to sell new units out of their zip code so I totally understand why your response rate was so low. Also remember the dealer isn’t getting any service business from an out of state sale either - so again no incentive for a dealer to even respond. IMO - those dealers who didn’t respond are the smart ones.

They don't want people using the internet across the United States to get a good deal, especially out in California. I see 10% off on a lot of Vehicles and up to 20%.

5:18. You guys provide a great service but I feel compelled to point out that you emailed 100 dealers and got a 17% response rate. You did that because this is your job. Who has that kind of time? I certainly don’t. Even if I did, I don’t have 100 dealerships within a reasonable driving distance of where I live. What if my best deal is out of state? Now I have to spend valuable time and additional money to pick it up or to have it shipped? Just sayin…. I’m in the Colorado Springs area. Got $1000 off MSRP at a Denver dealership on a 2024 Cavalry Blue RAV4 XSE Hybrid that I had to wait 6 weeks for. That was good enough for me 👊🏽.

@@Frank-James I’ll concede I may not have gotten the BEST deal, but I don’t believe I got screwed either. I didn’t pay MSRP or over, dealer didn’t charge a doc fee, I got exactly what I wanted and my time is also worth something 😉
