Here's something, VALVe actually had one of these. In Team Fortress 2, every class has a taunt for a laugh called the Schadenfreude, meaning to laugh at another's misfortune (i.e., shooting them in the face with a shotgun, blowing them to bits in an explosion, stabbing them in the back, decapitating them with a giant claymore, etc.). One of the classes, the Soldier, voiced by the late, great and beloved Rick May, was having his laugh recorded the recording booth just like all the other class VA's. It's very hard to hear and honestly I've never even heard this, even when listening for it, however Soldier's laugh trails on for quite a bit and gets very quiet toward the end, and people who work with game audio will tell you there's someone else in the recording giving a "that's good," or something along those lines. Not noticeable to a player though, and it's not the only one either. Ellen McLain, voice of GLaDOS in Portal and the administrator/announcer voice in TF2 also has a line in which a "that was great, thank you" can be heard from one of the crew members outside the booth. This time it was cut off in the game unlike the Soldier's, but remains in the files as the full version.

There is a voice line mistake that may be more of a programming error in the wheel of fortune game for nintendo switch. You need to unlock zestphone as a reward, and select it as the wheels reward, then play a game and land on it, then guess a letter correctly. When the announcer tells you what you won, they will spout out ALL the recorded lines for the rewards at once, one after the other, until you skip it or wait a very very long time for him to finish saying everything. It is very funny to hear him go on and on about a 1000 dollar gift, a 1000 dollar reward, a reward worth 1000 dollar, etc, with the game just waiting.

Interplay's Atomic Bomberman has a bunch of hidden vulgar voice lines recorded by Billy West & Charlie Adler. Yes, an official Bomberman game with R rated swearing. Whether they were accidentally or intentionally left in by the devs is a mystery, but it is hilarious to hear Bomberman say "I'll break your fucking head with a ratchet!".

I remember I used to think that game had lots of swearing in it way back when, only to later discover that it was just me mis-hearing the assorted voice lines. That's funny that it actually did have profanity in it, although i can't say I remember that particular example you used.

No need for cheating devices as it's a PC game. The voice lines were just hidden in one of the files on the disc. The game could've glitched out or perhaps the disc got scratched, resulting in Skulltoast hearing the hidden vulgar voice lines.

"Great, we idiots shouldn't think." That part got me laughing so hard. Yeah I remember Megaman 8 Dr Light would say Dr Wowwy. Their voices were all really low like a bad recording. You got me thinking about how there's some bad voice acting in some of the old games like SOTN.
@volo870 Жыл бұрын
There an interview with SOTN translator on KZbin. He had absolutely no input from Konami, so, to add gravity to the story, he filled the story and item names with quotes from his favorite writers and philosophers. Obviously he used ye olde English assuming the voice cast would know what it means.

There was a weird audio/voice gaff in Red Dead Redemption 2 where at a certain spot on the map in the original release before it was subsequently patched, you could hear a technician saying something about the production. Can't remember exactly what he said but it was so bizarre. Really the only audio goof in the game.

It cracks me up to read bad translations, but having them actually voiced? Not one of the English-speaking voice actors contacted someone to let them know that the words didn't actually make sense? Unless they all collectively thought it was hilarious and went with it. Probably why they read the parenthetical directions out loud. Might as well. Makes it funnier.

I was expecting a certain line from the 3DO game _Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties_ to feature in this. There’s a flubbed line towards the end from the leading man which causes him to crack up and his laughter and verbal gaffe was left in the game (you even hear another man in the recording studio say “Freudian slip?”, as well as others laughing and a man’s voice saying “I’m gonna keep that in the script!”).

As someone who is working on restoring/re-editing dialogue for the Unity fan-remake Project '06, Sonic 2006 has a couple more interesting recordings to add to the more commonly-known GUN dispatcher flubs. Roughly 59% of the dialogue in the game's files actually go unused in the original release, with many consisting of the same gameplay hints delivered by other characters (presumably as safety in case Sonic Team were to release separate DLC campaigns for Tails, Knuckles etc). In an unused voice clip for Knuckles describing the Iblis Golem enemies, Dan Green initially messes up the line with "The core of its head is its weakpoi--" before correcting it as "The core of the head is its weakpoint. Got to attack it when it appears!" Just like the Wave Ocean line for the GUN dispatcher, they simply left the full recording in and never got round to editing out the mistake. Also, if one were to listen careful to Princess Elise as she explains how the vines work in Sonic's Tropical Jungle stage ("If you jump when the bud is glowing, you may be able to jump higher"), you might notice her voice sounds quite different. That's because before SEGA cast Lacey Chabert in the role, Elise was initially voiced by another 4Kids voice actress (long cited to be Veronica Taylor (Ash in Pokemon) but never officially confirmed as far as I know). All of her dialogue was subsequently re-recorded once Lacey got the role, but a couple of Veronica's readings ended up in the game's files with the Tropical Jungle hint being the only one heard in-game (which in itself is an oddity as a replacement recording with Lacey does in fact exist in the game, but was never swapped out 🤷♂).

One other oddity (among the pile of others) in Last Alert, there's a boss that screams "Ya rai ni ka!" right before you fight him. It seems like the original script had "yaranaika," Japanese for "Let's do this" (or...other intonations...) But the translator must have not cared enough to translate it, and the voice actor assumed it was a catchphrase a la "Geronimo" or something.

Love seeing Last Alert on here. Many, many laughs had when I first played through back in the 90s. It honestly sounded like they rounded up people in the production office who could perform lines in reasonably decent English, stuffed them in a closet, and recorded everything in one go on a late weekend evening. There was another glitch in one of the boss fights where instead of playing the correct voice line, it played some random music. Guess they either referenced the wrong track in the code (all the voice lines and music are individual audio tracks on the CD-ROM), or the wrong audio was put on the master disc out of order.

I remember when Halo 2 was released Microsoft actually dubbed it into Neutral Spanish, it was one of the first AAA games dubbed into our dialect... but MS decided to record the voices in a small dubbing studio in Miami. Now, very few shows are dubbed into Spanish, but the studio was even smaller than Etcétera Group. Halo 2's Latin American dub was so bad that a professional Mexican dub actor sent a critique to MS and they actually listened to him and let him direct Halo 3 and all the rest of Halo games and the show were dubbed in Mexico since then and the dub is well regarded by fans. A personal favorite line flub that for some reason lives rent free in my head comes from the 2013 remake of the 1992 game Flashback, in where the main character is suppose to cynically exclaim, the very 90's phrase, "Awesome sauce". However, for the voice acting in the remake the line is delivered in such a way that seems to suggest that the character has just found some actual sauce and is pleasantly surprised by it.
