The back tire of the hartail was so worn out... That is a huge difference right there.

What was the point in this video? It's hardly a bombshell moment to find out the bottom of the range bike with worn tyres is worse than the top level bike with decent tyres. Why not get Blake on the low end bike and you on the high end bike and test the jump performance?

I’ve now watched this several times and quite frankly I’m stunned into incrudity that Steve could have been part of this unholy mess, unless that is, it was some kind of joke. This is the only rationale I’ve been able to apply that makes sense. I ride a Giant Fathom E+3 29er which I brought as my first entry level e-bike for £1800. In the 18 months I’ve ridden it, I’ve uprated the front shocks, the brakes, the rotors, saddle and a dropper post along with another set of rims and a mega set of Maxxis DH and Aggressor boots to go along with my Maxxis Ardents. Most of the people I ride with have opted for the HT and I can count of less than one hand those who have splashed out on a all singing all dancing E full suss. The reason is pretty self evident for anybody who has taken notice of 2020. In this era of Covid, the people I know cannot justify either to themselves or anybody else to spending £5K on a mega super E-MTB. Simples!

How about doing a more reasonable comparison, budget hard tail Vs high price and budget full sus Vs high price, and possibly a high priced hard that's about the same price as a budget full sus
@linxdude4 жыл бұрын
With all of these silly embn comparisons, I read the comments first to see if it’s worth watching. Thanks for saving me from watching this one. Even if it was a fair comparison, I’m sure Steve’s answer would be, “ It depends” anyway.

Does anybody else here smell “hidden agenda” with this tale of two Haibike’s?
@likeher94 жыл бұрын
Yes! You can actually get away with this, if, and only if you don't make it so obvious. Stick with it though because next week they're pitting a brand new Ferrari against a 40 year old Trabant... It's gonna be tight!.
@stevetaylor28184 жыл бұрын
I used to really enjoy your reviews but they are getting more and more pointless! I have a budget bike, but I don't have worn out budget tyres or a small gear range. Appropriate tyres for the appropriate conditions are the single most important part of a bikes setup. Followed by an appropriate gear range to get you up the climbs. Yes, we would expect the superbike to win, but we would like to see an honest result of superbike against a budget bike, that a keen budget bike owner would actually ride in these conditions!
@jordidiego33914 жыл бұрын
this is an unfair comparison, instead of getting the worst budget bike get a budget full sus, first or second in the line starting from bottom, with same tires and the difference won't we as big.

This Must ne the most stupidest comparison what anyone did on EBikes. You are not comparing two bikes in the same category. One is a hard tail with really bad tires and a brand new Fully Haibike. This is so wrong. Really bad comparison and it shows me you have no idea of what you are doing.

Would have been more fun to see the budget bike with better tyres. The brake test was more a tyre test and also the uphill in the beginning, you see the wheelspinn that stoped you. Would be more interesting to hear, what yor really need to just have some fun. Whats is the lowest range for a fork, do you need 160,140mm or is 120mm maybe enough. Something like that would be more interesting to see :) .

That rear tyre was no way the original tyre for that budget bike and I have a feeling it was changed to a crappy tyre to make the higher priced ebike look alot better than it is. For one the rear tyre isn't even matching the front tyre. Not sure of you but every bike I've ever had brand new always came with matching tyres. You may of well said this cheap bike is shit because we want to push this higher priced bike more so our sponsor will be happier. I used to like the show but now it seems you just want to push the higher end bikes more. For instance the high end bike had more camera shots of it and even had more information given about it yet the cheap one didn't. Plus when Steve was introducing the cheap bike it almost seemed like he wanted to call it something else as he paused before saying it was a budget bike.

It's been a long time since I personally considered even normal MTBs Superbikes in the Sub 6K Category never mind an Ebike with their price premium however that Haibike does look reasonable value relative spec wise to many others. I'd like to see entry level Vs the Superbike version of the same model. Still it's a fun little article and clearly not serious and I suspect designed to promote "comments" .. well done it worked on me :)

Please (a quick scan through your videos, I didn't find, or missed) make a video on legality of electric bikes, (road use) May buy a conversation kit 250-1000 watt rear hub And I discovered the derestriction button to switch from 250 to 1000 is illegal for road use, even if it's switched to 250 watt limit. I'm told switch has to be disabled or unconnected to make road legal...a video about that kind of thing. And the thumb or twist throttle is only allowed as a start assist up to 3:7 mph.??

I suspect Haibike are wanting to sell the cheap ones too? All the ‘big sellers’ have cheaper models so they must be shifting them. EMBN used to be the only EMtb channel I watched but I now watch numerous channels as I don’t think you give the ‘average’ electric mountain biker much inspiration to get out on the trails or information relevant to them, I personally find myself defending my £2700 bike whilst watching. 90% of us are riding sub £3500 bikes. I watch you guys for the same reason as people watch Top Gear.....I may one day win the lottery and buy a koenigsegg Jesko Absolut rather than a Ferrari Dino, ie. I know what I want if my financial situation changes. I know you have to be pulling in the £’s through sponsorship and product placement to survive but you are providing less and less valuable content for most of your viewers and a reduced chance of a smooth segue from analogue to electric powered mountain biking for the majority of your subscribers. Just saying... Still enjoy your videos.

@krymsix5742 жыл бұрын
The lower end bike is clearly specced for XC, mild trail riding, bike paths (paved and dirt) and maybe even being used as a commuter hence the tires that feature a very light tread on the center with grippers on the outside for better cornering grip in light off-road conditions. The super e-bike looks built as a true all mountain bike that can bomb down descents, tackle any terrain going up and over all manner of obstacles and it gets tires and power units to match that usage out of the gate. As so many others have said this review is at best incompetent and at worse it's disingenuous to lead folks with limited biking knowledge into spending 2k more than they need to because they will fear not being able to get up a hill in rugged terrain or slipping for grip in places where for the cost of tires the bike could have handled these challenges so much better. The tires make such a difference that this review is a moot point since they took the more affordable bike as stock and put it completely in an area where they had to know the tires would let it down. This review could have been so much better had they switched the tires on the affordable bike to match what came on the quiver killer e-super bike and then made their case. Yes the more expensive bike would still ride a little better but it would have been more like the super bike shifts much smoother even when under load, the extra power mode is really handy on a steep section where you might be fighting for grip etc. And not "this $4000 bike is useless you need to buy the super bike or It's a waste." For the cost of tires and eventually a groupset you tackle all of the supposed shortcomings of the affordable bike. I'd also add that they should have taken both bikes to a more manicured, flatter trail, dirt bike paths, on road or paved bike path and tested both bikes out there as well and documented the differences there. I suspect on terrain the affordable bike was intended for it would do just fine while the super bike would have a cherry on top of the cake for sure it would have been completely unnecessary on that type of easier terrain. This review tells you nothing because this review is on par with comparing apples to oranges when making an apple pie.

This farce video is just a vehicle for Steve to empty all of his subjective hate onto a hardtail emtb. I've owned both and my old hardtail had many great attributes that made me enjoy many successful rides on it. My full sus IS a different beast of course but that's because of what I use it for. My old hardtail excelled at what it was designed for. This video is a ridiculous comparison.

If you are a good rider, you will find the limitations of a crap bike and it's components. And, if you ride regularly, you'll find the components don't last long thru wear and tear and damage thru harder riding that a better rider would inflict on the cheaper, inferior components. When I rode in the 90s we didn't have much money so just bought cheap crap, it fell apart after 2 rides as we got better so wasted money on sh1t bikes and components. If you've got the money, get a nice bike, f**k those who hate, it doesn't matter what you ride. Don't look down on people with cheap bikes and don't think those with £10k Specialized are BMW/Audi driving, gel dropping, trail wrecking, loud mouthed nobs... which they usually are :D
