I'm on my 4th e-mtb and finally found the holy grail. The Kenevo Expert is it, the one, the bike every manufacturer should aspire to. The only bike I have never fallen off chucking it down hills and the only bike I can climb on without losing balance and dabbing down on the climb. it inspires so much confidence and has improved my riding ten fold. It's amazing what not being scared does to help your progression. It does everything and does it all well.

Speedwise with my XC i am in strava top10 segments with 10+ or 100+ or 1000+ riders. i can not confirm that an analogue XC is slower, of course i put in some more watts. I use my eMTB only in bad weather conditions (cold, wet) or when i want to do some low intensity training. i am 59 age. overall i want to ride analogue as long as possible.

It would be interesting to see a comparison of climbing performance between different e-mtbs (in different power modes) to see how much effect the bike geometry has. (e.g. DH e-mtb vs. trail e-mtb) I guess boost/turbo mode will get anything up the hill but your battery wont last long so isn't sustainable on a big day out.

Rode with a friend who was testing one and the majority of our climb was tech single track with tight switchbacks. He really struggled with the lack of agility on the climbs but loved the down. Chris, I enjoyed the video, it is an excellent idea to show bikes of different classes, advantages and dis-advantages, side by side in the same environments. I ride a 2019 Turbo Levo Comp Carbon and love it. It has gotten me back into riding after about a 5 year break. Back in the mid 2000’s I did some XC racing for about 5 years, Novice and Sport class only. If you have a chance, what I would like to see is this same comparison done on an actual XC course scale. This video was an excellent comparison of sprinting 3 types of track typically found in an XC course. But XC racing is not all about the sprint, it’s about the long haul. In the series I raced in (Intermountain Cup) the courses were between 5 and 8.5 mile loops. Novice class did 1 lap, Sport 2 laps, and, if I remember correctly Expert and Elite did 3 or 4 laps. I would wager that you would see more significant differences in times on each of these bikes and expose their full potential, both advantages and dis-advantages. It’s just an idea. Keep up the good work and excellent content! Cheers.

I rode the Merida eONE-SIXTY 10k last weekend. Most of the trails we have here are I'd say as a beginner coming from MX are narrow and more tecnical. We had to climb some some forest path to get to the entries. Nothing special or especially steep. Do you or some of the community think I could do this on a Husqvarna EXC10? Since I saw that machine I want to have it but there's no possibility to ride it around here for testing. The Merida is pretty light weight in the class of the eEnduro Bikes. Correct me if iam wrong. Some tell me that the Husky will be to heavy and the battery will run low very fast because the weight and the bad gearing (teeth) on the Husky. I as a ex Motocross Rider think a "heavier" bike would suit me better. In terms of stability. The Merida felt nimble and nervous some times. Also the double fork bridge and the longer suspension travel seems to give me a safer feeling coming from MX Bikes. Can someone help me please? ^_^

I ride light XC bikes. The "sense of accomplishment" of pedaling up steep climbs is as much fun for me as doing the downhills. However, having said that, I have always had a little voice saying "I wouldn't mind having a downhill bike just for some fun downhill stuff." But I've always shied away because the gearing and weight on a DH bike is horrendous for the uphills on the kinds of trails I ride (definitely push-a-bike). I could actually see myself having an e-downhill-bike though. Mainly because it WILL go up the steep climbs I ride. Of course, I wouldn't get the same sense of accomplishment out of those uphills, but I could certainly do more technical downhills and the ones I already do faster. So, yeah, I could do a e-downhill-bike as an extra just for fun bike. It would never replace my favorite do-it-all XC bike, but so what? Variety is a good thing.

In most EU countries if a powered bike can go above 25km/h or have more than 250W power it is considered a moped/motorbike. The consequence is that it then requires registration (and plates), tech check-ups, driving licence, third party liability insurance and cannot be ridden in bike lanes (streets/roads only).

It's hard to take EMBN as anything other than shills nowadays. They seem hell bent on comparing E-MTBs with non motorized MTBs and only showing the E-MTBs' merits. Give us the whole picture here. What about the demerits? How easy is it to self service the motor? What are the options when your E-MTB has been discontinued and the motor or battery dies? Doubt these shills would ever address any questions that would put E-MTBs down.
@seancunningham42544 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more, anytime I randomly watch this channel it's the same old shit again and again, ebikes are so much better.... and on and on it goes.
@iforce2d4 жыл бұрын
"service the motor" lol it's not like a gas engine bro :) It's likely sealed anyway, and brushless so the only conceivable thing to replace might be the bearings, but by that time you'll probably be too old to ride and your grandkids will have better toys. And what are the options with anything else that's discontinued? Motor would only die if you fiddled with the speed controller to override the limits and then hit it really hard for hours running from mains power (battery is the weakest link so normal usage so this would not even be possible in normal usage). Yes, battery will eventually die for sure, but search aliexpress for e-bike packs, not exactly hard to find, or even to make yourself.
@Snipeonz4 жыл бұрын
@@iforce2d Yes you're right, the motor is not a gas engine, and it's just a brushless DC motor. But no, don't expect me to believe that it'll go on forever. A fact fact about your MTB is that nothing is indestructible and everything would fail eventually. There's a lot in a motor that can and would fail; the circuit board, cadence sensor, and as you said, bearings. There's a ton of reasons for stuff to fail, from the conditions and way you ride your bike to manufacturing tolerances not being tight enough to as you said, people overriding the speed limits. But just because people choose to void their warranty isn't a reason to take the option of self or third party repair away from them. And don't get me started on how poor the manufacturing tolerances of some crap are, it's not just motors, the whole bicycle industry and then some is guilty of it. And no, motors are not sealed in such a way that they can't be taken apart again then thrown back together. Air forks and shocks are supposed to contain highly pressurized air; which in case you don't know, is a hell load harder than being waterproof; and yet they still are fully user serviceable. As for what options are there for anything that's discontinued? You'll be surprised by how old of a phone you still can get repaired, then. Where there's a demand, as long as the manufacturers don't engage in such anti self repair operations, there'll be a market to respond to it.

@TheDennisRobb4 жыл бұрын
It actually is, weight isn’t a factor for ebikes like an XC bike and most people don’t live at parks with lifts. Also e-bikes are comparable in price to regular bikes with the same components as long as you shop around and get a deal on Black Friday or something.
@daray6664 жыл бұрын
@@TheDennisRobb You'll never get an E-MTB with same components / materials for the same price as a regular bike. Not even when you compare apples to oranges (as you do if you compare manufacturer's suggested retail price of a regular bike to some special offer on an E-MTB). I got from the same manufacturer (cCube) two bikes an E-MTB (Stereo Hybrid 140 SL 500) and an enduro bike (Stereo 170 SL). The MSRP is the same for both. Here The difference in components (E-MTB vs enduro : E-MTB Fox 34 Rhythm vs Fox Factory , Fox Float DPS EVOL vs Fox Float X2 Factory, CUBE Dropper Post vs Fox Transfer Factory, Cube EX30 Wheels vs Newmen Evolution SL A.30. So a motorcycle is quicker than a bicycle, who'd have thought it 🤔

So you basically put restrictive gears on the DH bikes to prove to yourselves that they can't go uphill. Congrats, the lemon prize of iditoism for mountainbikers :D

If you hold the first button on the ebike it pedals for you for the steep steep climbes found that on mine todah 😂

Completely useless in my eyes. I‘d rather buy a Levo and a normal DH bike for the bikepark. I guess if you ride the Kenevo on rough DH tracks something brakes sooner or later and it‘s expensive as hell.

30mph ok with xc bike but speed cuts at 15mph on ebike lol
@richardcorns85534 жыл бұрын
The motor assistance cuts at 15mph not the speed. All it means is your pedalling a heavy inefficient bike after this speed. Just need to work harder to hit 30mph.

Not my downhill e mtnb my speed cuts off at 45mph and I am running a 1000watt mid drive

I mean they do call em push bikes but i climb my commencal dh with ease and go past some xc riders so i think it might just the depend od the rider. I mean chris has touched a non e bike in a while 😅 jk

Also forgot to say that all trails in my area are just normal fire road or gravel roads so that might be also the biggest difference

Would you please stop making it all about time? I NEVER time my rides because I don't care. I care how it feels. If I want to winch myself uphill and then down I'll take my ebike. If I just want to get out and away I'll take my hardtail. Can I ride my ebike on a cross country route? Of course! but it's not as much fun for me as a light hardtail. I just wish you focused on the fun/feel aspect more than the stopwatch.

The speed limits on ebikes is a joke. Comparisons like this just shows how pointless they are. Just about anyone can pedal faster than 15mph. If they need to have a limt it should be 25mph, or not have a limit but have speed limits on roads/paths for all riders.
@RocketMagnetUK4 жыл бұрын
This Video actually demonstrates that the assist limit is too high and needs reduced... certainly zero case to increase it as is shown here as even DH style Ebike is still faster than an XC bike.. hence no possible case the limit needs increased.

Chris on a state of the art XC race machine -- 3:00. Chris walking with 40lbs of dead weight -- 3:15. So, my question: how much did Specialized pay you? Next time get an athletic XC racer to do a proper race instead of a chubby-ish middle aged man with a double chin walking bikes uphill!!! Granted, the E bike will probably still win, but at least it will be an actual race.
@anthonywalters74344 жыл бұрын
I feel like the issue on the xc bike was that he wasn’t weighting it properly on the climb, they tend to lift the front wheel so you need to find a balance between the two, that and maybe a higher gear and some “oomph”.
@mattx42534 жыл бұрын
I'm going to start a petition to ban analogue bikes from trails. They are too slow and are a danger to ebike riders and they just get in the way. I liken this to allowing a horse and cart on the M6..
