I think "Embrace Your Pace" is the answer for almost any anxiety nowadays, we often become blind to our progress because we're focused on what other people have. This is especially true in the pet community, I see so many people disappointed because their pets are not as cuddly, not as funny, not as social as someone else's pet on TikTok. Our expectations sometimes take the best of us.

This is so important, particularly not comparing differant birds to eachother. My first conure wasn’t tame however stepped up within a week and was very comfortable very quickly. My second conure was tame and stepped up right out of the carrier. My third conure however was not only not tame but is also disabled and only has one leg. He took 5 months to step up and is still getting comfortable with me. Every bird is an individual, it’s about learning what each bird needs and how to work with them the way they need. : ) Great video as always!

this video has very important message ... which everyone especially in our bird community should know ... i had two budgies named kira and jerry .. kira was always an outgoing , social , playful , attention seeker bird ... i thought that jerry is just like that .. being totally introvert , not liking anyone around ...always sleepy ... but sadly kira passed away 2 months ago ... and it led to an unimaginable journey of me and jerry where i realised how he was always an outgoing budgie but kira took away all my attention ... she gifted me a jerry i have never imagined ... he is cuddly now .. never sleeps lol .. always active and wants my attention ... so the thing is .. we tend to focus or like the birds that seem so outgoing and social ... and the birds who doesnt seem so outgoing are ignored because everyone has made these wierd stereotypes of how a bird should be ... to break it all ... the bird didnt choose you , you chose it ... so you have to give him all the love .. having a bird who bites .. not cuddles is never a bad thing ... he is being himself .. it was you who had set the stereotypes .. not him ... remember that. so you should not only emrace your pace but also your bird ... having the right diet and slowly progressing in your journey might sound like an easy thing but sometimes it will take you to start everything again ... but its really not necessary for your bird to fit all the stereotypes ... people have set

Thank you SO much for this. I so needed to hear this message. I've been feeling really sad and disappointed with my little green cheek. She came to me about two months ago and she still doesn't feel comfortable with my hands. I have target trained her and she has made a little bit of progress, but I constantly compare her and myself to other birds and bird owners (until now after hearing you speak). I'm so grateful for you and everything you do! THANK YOU!

Such a good reminder! I’ve just started to work with my flock of 7. When I was getting every birdies weight the other day it was a roller coaster of emotions (for me) working how to get 7 very different personalities to get on and stay on scales. I succeed but needed a nap!

I visited a bird “pet store” in NJ where I live this particular store also takes in rescue parrots - a caique started calling out to me I went over his cage and noticed he had plucked himself and his feathers seem greasy - took him out of the cage and he did not want to leave me. The store wanted $1600 for an animal that was 8 years old and seemed to have experienced trauma… I have been depressed for two days over this and the state of some of the parrots that had been given up.

This video was great.....I have been feeling that I am not doing enough to help my budgie get tamer with hands. She has always had a fear of hands and won't perch on my finger.. But in other ways she has very gradually made a lot of progress...so I will just accept her pace and not worry or blame myself. Thank you so much for this.
@kindnessplease98363 жыл бұрын
I am working with my budgie on the same issues. Within the last few days he has begun to be more animated around me and actively looks for his breakfast every morning. He has made a tentative "hop" to my fingers a couple times, but refuses to repeat it right away. At first I was frustrated (my first bird ever) but embracing his pace as well as my own is a great mantra. I keep forgetting we have years to get to know each other, we don't have to do the cuddling right away.

I got a baby Quaker 4 days ago,he’s a rehome and terrified of me but every day I make a little progress. Embrace with pace is a really good quote and has reminded me too be more patient with him!
@sunnycharacter3 жыл бұрын
We got our Quaker when she was 5 months old. I knew I wanted this baby immediately when I walked around the room with her at the breeder’s bird room. At the time Ivy was not sexed yet, so we got her DNA done right away. But male or female I immediately fell in love with this lil scruffy Quaker. She’s had her ups and downs with molting, beginnings of hormones, all the normal things a smaller parrot goes through. She is entirely in love with me as I am her #1 flock person. And I’m ok with that. At first when I have to walk away she complains, she wants to be out of her cage most of the day but there are times she has to be in her day cage when my hubby can’t watch her. We have a cat who wants nothing to do with her and my cat knows Ivy is part of the family. But no way would I leave Ivy alone in a room with any cat or dog. Quakers are a funny lot. Super smart, very cuddly once they know you and have a lot of sass. She will sit on my husband, even step up to him and I think if I wasn’t in the room she would be very amiable with him. But if I’m there within her sights, she wants to be near me. She loves going outside with me and I don’t have an aviary, but I do have a small “outside” cage for her so she can be out with me anywhere in the yard while I swim, or garden, etc. she loves the fresh air, listening to the dogs next door (she barks back) and talks and sings to the wild birds. Give your bird time. You have to earn her trust and she has to adopt you as her new flock mate. When she is ready she will let you help her preen, bathe, and cuddle. You’ll get there!

@@sunnycharacter Wow! She sounds so sweet! I've had him about a week now and hes a lot more curious about me,today he even sat next too me which was a massive improvement! Hes still terrified of hands,but hes starting too tolerate me,he even head bobs if i start bobbing my head too. I've discovered his favorite treat is apple and he will come relatively close too me for it! It's definitely going too take a while too gain his trust (especially as he has his first ever vet appointment in 2 days! 😬) but I'm being a lot more patient and its working. Thank for your embrace your pace lesson! When I first rescued my bird he was so scared of people he fell off his perches in total fear. It took my Indian Ringneck 2 years to be ok with people just talking to him and him actually started enjoying company. I’m on year 3 and he accepts kisses, he still doesn’t like being touched or held but it’s big progress.

New T-Shirt idea... TOUCHE With the "Embrace Your Pace" Quote. . Jamieliegh- important video for all of us. I hope that you will stop making comparisons about your own skill levels and work as somehow being of less importance and of lesser quality. My heart breaks when I watch your videos and you put yourself down even in just minor ways. I think that you are first and foremost an amazing mom and friend to your friends. You are a dedicated to nurturing your flock and the project birds that you bring into your home. You are most likely one of the world's top notch bird trainers and bird behavior experts. You are extremely intelligent, sensitive and your emotional IQ(I'm a Social Worker) is way above par. Your high energy level is something that many of us can only hope for. Your aviary's are spotless, your bird's have the best nutrition imaginable. Capri is always sweet, kind and intelligent and very generous with her time with the birds. She's precious. I'm sure that she has her moments, but adults do too. Some of my favorite people are children and parrots. Be kind to yourself because you are unique,respected and loved by me and so many of your followers. It's okay to toot your own horn now and again and celebrate and reward yourself for a job well done.💯✔ Stay happy and safe. Love to the entire Bird Tricks family - human and feathered. 🐦😎💗 😷

There’s something beyond endearing about touché. I relate - I feel like I would be the bird to have an anxious meltdown over being moved two feet. But he remains silly, curious, playful, engaged…. And he sure isn’t afraid to let his needs/opinion be known 🤣 He and lefty seemed to be meant to be to get thru that time together. 💚❤️🩹💚

Back in February I ended up with 2 love birds. The owner was having mental decline issues and she was moving out of state, she couldn't take them with her. They were cage bound for 4 years, they were never handled. One is a shy guy, but sweet. The other one is rambunctious and prone to biting, hes also a feather plucker/self mutilator. In the 7 months I've had them I've spent every morning before work with them, I also spend an hour or so with them after work. I also happen to have a budgie. All three birds learn at a different place. The plucker is whip smart, he learns so fast it's almost scary. Hes also my velcro bird, he spends most of my free time hanging out with me. His brother is less interested in learning and more interested in cheating to get millet. The budgie has just learned to fly so hes at that toddler not gonna listen stage. I'm so ready for 3 or 4 months from now when he starts listening again lol.
