"Karen Fuel" I'm 100% stealing that for the Starbucks' Frappuccino!

Karen fuel. Dude, you just gave me something to randomly recall and laugh about, making people wonder what the hell is wrong with me for the rest of my life. I have backspaced and corrected several times while typing this because I'm laughing so hard. I will now call Starbucks coffee Karen fuel. Damn. That was great, thank you.

Pinkertons were private detectives/security of a sort to fill in where municipal police departments couldnt--meaning really that they worked for Rich Guy A to find out what Rich Guy B or Union protestor C is up to, because the police wouldnt or because Rich Guy A thought they couldnt. they were supposed to be investigators but really were mostly thugs. 1850ish to 1890ish has a handful of stories involving these guys, particularly in union busting, and at least a few ending in them shooting protesting workers.

I live in a town of 20k and we have a 'main road' KFC, but are too small for a McD's. Starbucks sits in the center of town across the road from the old courthouse that had a struggling coffee-shop before 'bucks got in... [ sips a Kenco Columbian with Goats milk ] I never buy coffee in cups, only jars.

never mind how hilarious "Karen fuel" is or what "evil" Starbucks could cause with cash like that. the former branding marketer in me immediately thought about what the public could do to THEM. if you went about it the right way, calling it "Karen fuel" could put a negative connotation on the product and at least put a dent in their public image, if not crash it--that'd take a much bigger plan. (humans are not only fickle, they're also quick about it.) I say "if you went about it the right way", because it could easily turn into a promotional win for Starbucks lol. personally, I've had one of those pumpkin spice things at least 15 years ago, and a few sips of the bottled stuff they sell in grocery stores. that's it. not a fan of coffee at ALL, but also refuse to pay more than $1 for any drink I could make myself. until last week (after 12 years there), I worked for an association representing small rural banks, so I know far more about banking and financial regulations than I care to. Nic's absolutely right. the format of how funds are deposited and held is different, but the nature of the transaction and movement of funds is EXACTLY how a bank functions. but Starbucks is not regulated by FDIC, OCC, CFPB, FinCEN, Treasury or several other regulatory agencies. they cant even be penalized or ordered as to how they use that cash, because you cant declare that anything is predatory, deceptive or fraudulent. the customer freely opened and funded their app account, and no major financial regulations apply to Starbucks, only those as apply to commerce. the FTC cant say shit about Starbuck's app as long as they give you the agreed upon coffee in return. they have no liability other than cyber issues and the general commerce regs that apply to all US enterprises. and even then, all they owe you is coffee--not cash. further, it is easier for Starbucks when customers pay through funds stored in the app. they save some of the merchant and interchange fees incurred every time someone pays with debit or credit cards online or in person, in a single transaction. and it's less cash to have to keep on hand in the stores, which lessens security costs. those are just the things I came up with off the top of my head. anyone who actively works in a bank, specializes in finance or is a financial attorney could think of 20 more.

Almost 95% carnivore after 2 years but still drawn to sweet things. Have none in my house so I avoid them and only eat meat at home. I do not eat vegetables and Fiber anymore and do not miss them. The idea of certain foods draws me but the reality of them does not live up to my memory of them.
