Length of threaded stud suitable spacers each end tighten up stud in goes the shells nice & square.if bearings to tight on the work spindle measure first then carefully polish with emery to suit, From Coventry UK 🇬🇧👍.

Thats how I changed the spindle bearings in my minilathe years ago. I had the advantage of making all the hardware on the lathe first, before taking it apart for its taper roller bearing upgrade.

Bugger!, that is so obvious, why didn't my tiny brain think of that, would have been so much easier!!! oh well, if anyone else is in the same boat now they know, and so do I, thanks for that, all the best, Cliff.

Cliff those holes in the bearing covers must drain oil away as they are labyrinth seals not just ordinary dust / muck covers. I thought when you started another pair of hands would be good, but ingenuity is the mother of invention and all that ! Great job mate. The lathe will be up and running in no time now.

Cheers, yes they must be, they wouldn't let much oil in, soon be there, ATB, Cliff

Cliff, I think you have the large spacer on the inside of the gearbox. On mine, it fits on the outside, behind the drive gear, to space it out from the bearing housing. Great to see more of the Maximat. Best wishes, Dean.

Cheers Dean, the larger one is on the outside of the bearing, it covered the keyway slot a bit and I thought there was something wrong but it slides over the keyway, all good,,,,, I think! All the best, Cliff

We used a cheap toaster over set at about 250f. to heat bearings. what ever works you.

thought about getting my toaster oven out, but its at the back of a shelf! :-), thanks for watching, Cliff

Anti-friction bearings may be heated up to 300 deg F without harm. A 3/4" dia piece of threaded rod through the spindle, plus appropriate aluminum washer on each end, would have made that bearing assy job much easier. My V10-P badly needs new spindle bearings. The cost for ABEC 7 grade bearings is a little daunting...
