This was a great year for all DCA Corps! Coming back after an extensive time off (no 2020, virtual 2021), all groups did fantastic! Finals night "retreat" was a cool experience, which included each group being proud of each other, and I definitely felt that energy! Hell, you could feel it early season too, when we all started seeing each other for the first time in a while! I chuckled at the title, considering there were only 12 competing corps this year, so thanks for the laugh!

Center Marimba for White Sabers here, just wanted to give a shoutout to our entire percussion section and how much adversity we all overcame this year. We started the season with 2 basses, 2 marimbas, 4 snares, and 1 tenor... so a bit rough. Through many months we ended with a full drumline (One of our tenor players joined right at the end!), and a semi full front ensemble. Our front tech actually had to play synth because we could not get someone. It really felt like every weekend there was something to overcome, and every weekend we figured it out and pushed through. I could not ask for a better group to perform with, every person put in their weight and supported each other. When the end of the season was arriving, and we thought we were done with the adversity, we were not! During our semifinals performance, in the middle of segment 4, my lung spontaneously collapsed (Pneumothorax). Luckily, the adrenaline was able to push me through the rest of that show and I made it off the field. I assumed it was heart pain, and did not go into the ER until finals morning. Because of this, I was not able to perform at finals night. But the entire percussion section pushed through this and was able to get a Box5 score in percussion, and they could not deserve it more. I was in post-surgery during their finals run, and listened to scores on the phone, but I do not regret a thing from this season. Special shout-out to my fellow marimba, Sabrina, who took over my responsibilities in the show for finals night. She did an amazing job at keeping the front together for that run and I am very proud of her and the entire percussion section. MYNWA

I'm really glad you enjoyed our hornline's sound at Hurricanes! We worked really hard on sound production all season- truthfully we'd been marching holes in our already small hornline up until the week before finals and then finals came and two of our baritones had Covid :( I was extremely proud of this group. They were a pleasure to work with and I hope every single one who can return comes back for 2023. I've never had so much fun being involved with a drum corps as I did this season. ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡

I marched DCA in 2017 with a corps from the UK, The Kidsgrove Scouts. The best bit of my 2.5 week tour was how we - together with The Cabollero's - threw the sickest after party in the hotel after finals. Went from convention room to convention room as we kept being kicked out. We ended off with a few british guys dancing the Irish River dance in the lobby of the hotel. What a night!!

@@SWilla00946 Hey Sam! There was me in Orlando, and a guy named Matt who was in Gainesville. As far as riding together, I drove my self to and from every weekend, because I was on a different schedule that wouldn’t allow me to catch a ride up, but the members are very helpful and willing to give rides. I was a complete stranger to the Atlanta area and marching drum corps, but I was offered a place to stay every weekend without any hesitation from the snare section leader, and his fiancé in the color guard. Members go above and beyond. The drive is about 7 hrs, but depending on traffic , it could 9-10 hr. Its long, but it was a fairly easy drive though, I took 75 all the way up. The thing I love about DCA is that you have time, there is no rush due to a fear of aging out, and you will have to time to continue your daily life. I promise, it will be one of the best decisions you’ll make when you pull the trigger and decide to go out. Oh yeah, and the front ensemble is killer.
