Electro-Motive Diesel, or EMD for short has supplied passenger and freight locomotives to countries across the world. EMD locomotives haul freight and passenger trains in India, Australia, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan and many more. They also do duty on European rails.
In this video I compare the EMD GT46MAC, the freight WDG4 of Indian Railways with EMD JT42CWR - the Class 66 freight locomotive of the United Kingdom and Europe. Both locomotive models are powered by the EMD 710 prime-mover and both models trace their origins to the late 1990s. The WDG4 and Class 66 locomotives were commissioned into service in India and the UK in 1999 and 1998, respectively. Therefore, both models are of similar age and have contemporary service histories.
