The lyrics hit me so hard cos I interpreted it differently. I'm always the one trying to make everyone laugh, be it with my family, my friends, my boyfriend. I never allow them to see me break down and cry. I couldn't, even if I wanted to. I tried before to cry in front of them, it just won't come out. So I swallowed it all in, continue to make them laugh, continue to take care of them while I put on my brave facade, I put on my makeup so that they won't see my pain. I suffered from severed depression and was suicidal several times, yet my dad has no idea. I care for my loved ones too much to let them see what I'm going through.

hazwanee25 you seem to be very strong, just remember that you don’t have to be so strong all the time, let go some time and say aloud how you feel, when someone’s listening to our worries we feel a bit better, and even if it will not work every time, you should keep on doing it, because you can’t stay in the dark alone, it’s not good. Stay strong and talk to your relatives, feel free to cry or feel any kind of feelings you are experiencing 💕

I can relate to everything you wrote 😥 I've always been a clown for the others, to always make sure they're ok, taking care of and happy. Wishing you all the best!

@@TheTruthness2011 I have never understood the notion that for a song to be good, no one else but you can hear it. I also don't understand why artists need to poor. They have families, children and entire bunch of other people who work FOR them who depend on the artist making money. Would you work for free and if you gain success would you piss on it? Surviving on pride won't pay your mortgage. Take your success where ever you get it, do no harm, give something back and live your life.
@MrXallen6 жыл бұрын
@@TheTruthness2011 How condescending, you think you know something about life that I do not. I didn't ask nor do I care how you define success, neither does this artist (or sell out as you call her). The point I was making is that she does what she does to get what she needs. You do the same. This is pointless you think you know me and I already know I don't know you. We can't persuade each other, because we can't even disagree politely. This is pointless, good luck to you.

Emeli Sande is an amazing singer and the first time I heard this song, I thought to myself "this is an absolutely beautiful songstress singing an amazing song" and I have loved it ever since. I saw her in concert back in 2015 and she sang this along with a list of her other big hits and the crowd was singing along with her throughout it. The room was filled with so much emotion and concentrated so much on her performance during it that it seem like there was total silence in a stadium filled with over 5000 people and when it ended she was crying on stage and got a standing ovation for it.

I’ve been thinking about what this song actually means, it’s a hard one because it embodies so many emotions, but the one thing they all have in common is the feeling of failing but having to move forward with the course of life. It’s sad but also so beautiful because people are complicated, we never know why someone behaves the way they do and ultimately we’re all fighting a battle to make something of ourselves, even when we don’t like the choices we make, even with all life’s twists and turns. Just beautiful!
@PTRRanger9518 ай бұрын
She said what it means. It was about her trying to get into music and get signed. She said it was about people taking her for a fool and judging her. It's telling people not to be a clown for people, be yourself, even if they don't like it. Don't be a sell out because others want you to be because it will benefit them.
@xchloex49066 жыл бұрын
To me this seems like the meaning is to the music industry, buying artists souls and then working them hard. Until they deny it and then take all the privileges away. When she signs it's like her souls been sold and that all they care about is the money and her selling out shows. The music industry can be a dark place but artists like her are able to show us what it's like. Peace and love to everyone, never let anyone buy your soul. ❤️❤️

As a grade 8 kid I loved this woman to death and still do. I always told my friends she will win a Grammy. Even tho she hasn't but in my heart she has

Has anyone realised that since she made this song, she hasn't been mainstream again, like there's nothing really said about her again. I guess she didn't sign at the end...
@Barrechor9 жыл бұрын
+Girl 101 She's been taking a break. She's extremely introvert and avoided the limelight for years while she was writing material for other artists. She'll be back with another fantastic album no doubt, she's far too talented not to.
@Ashanti_flower249 жыл бұрын
Hitsuke Trust me,that's probably the end of her unless she agrees. Talent isn't enough, I mean look at people like young thug, nicki minaj and so on
@Barrechor9 жыл бұрын
Seriously... She's one of the most talented songwriters of the last 10 years. Simon Cowell has her on speed dial for when he needs a big song for his contracted female artists. Check out some of the stuff she's written for other people, and you'll know what I'm talking about. I know you're referencing the theme of the video, but don't worry about Ms Sande. She will be back at the top of the album charts when her new album hits stores.

I, as others that commented before me recently caught a WONDERFUL cover of your song. I had to look it up and here I found YOU, Beautiful in every way! The Voice, The look, the whole package! What a WONDERFUL song and you did it superbly! I have no idea how I missed that over the years. I added it to my "Songs for the Broken Hearted" playlist..

guess it's funnier from where you're standing Cause from over here I missed the joke Clear the way for my crash landing I've done it again Another number for your notes I'd be smiling if I wasn't so desperate I'd be patient if I had the time I could stop and answer all of your questions As soon as I find out How I can move from the back of the line [Chorus:] I'll be your clown Behind the glass Go 'head and laugh Cause it's funny I would too if I saw me I'll be your clown On your favourite channel My life's a circus circus Round in circles I'm selling out tonight I'd be less angry if it was my decision And the money was just rolling in If I had more than my ambition I'll have time for 'Please' I'll have time for 'Thank you' As soon as I win [Chorus] From a distance my choice is simple From a distance I can entertain So you can see me I put make-up on my face But there's no way you can feel it From so far away [Chorus]

I feel the for the many artists in the industry that are used as pawns, as puppets, as clowns. The industry is really dark and full of terrors.
