I was traumatized by the sound of the EBS as a kid. Everytime I heard it interrupt the TV (which happened frequently because I live in an area where flash floods and thunderstorms are as common as flies), I legit started crying and remained terrified for about an hour afterwards. It didn't help that they made it seem like the world was ending and as a child I had no idea I was safe where I was. I still feel sick a little whenever I hear that sound to this day.

Invading the mainland would be a tactical nightmare, so we don't have to worry about that. However, that isn't to say that we can't be harmed. A few well-placed EMPs would put the public into a state of panic, cities would be shut down (Cities would just be done, period), and a lot of stuff would just stop working. Still, we're better off than many of the smaller nations with less available land or fewer armed and able-bodied citizens.

The buzzers, called "Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) Headers" are usually triggers for broadcasters who own equipment that decode the headers. Basically they're saying "Hey! Listen up, this could be serious!" The "Attention Signal" does just what its name implies: gets the listener's attention. The sounds at the end are somewhat in similarity to the SAME Headers, they're just saying "OK, we're done for now, but be on your toes for the next time." Hope this helped :D

I'm gonna give this a "meh" for several reasons. 1. EAS would most likely not point out a specific building since it's used on a State or National level. 2. "Rebels" means a group of people from within the country, not another nation. 3. A national news organization would have gotten coverage of the event faster, and therefore the EAS would either activate at the behest of the Government OR it wouldn't have activated at all since most people would have put two and Twp together. Bottom Line: A for effort, D for scariness.

"Foreign aircraft" is rather vague. Foreign aircraft enter the United States all the time as a part of routine air traffic. "Hostile aircraft" would be the proper term to use because it informs the listener as to the intent of the aircraft.

We don't know the intent. Air traffic controllers would know if the aircraft belongs or not, and would presumably have tabs on all domestic aircraft anyway.

One time when I was 11 I was home alone watching TV and it cut off my show and put on an amber alert and at the time I didn't know what that was so I assumed it was a code for an attack or crisis or something so I flipped shit and tried calling my mom multiple times and SHE DID'NT PICK UP so I got really scared to the point where I was crying and ever since then every time I hear that beeping it makes me really nervous/uncomfortable

For everyone who thinks the tones are scary, so do i, they are same headers and attention tones. the same headers are the three or more low beeps. they tell other stations whats happening and where. so you dont get a alert from Florida when you live in new york. and the attention tone, is to, well, get your attenton. then the voice tells you whatd going on as the screen says where and what.
