We were evacuated in the middle of the night when lightning strikes our building! After lightning struck our building, triggering our fire alarms, we evacuated in the middle of the night, not using the elevators. It's hurricane season here in southern Florida and tropical storm Fiona has turned into Hurricane Fiona! The hurricane has caused flooding in Puerto Rico with massive power outages. Thanks to everyone who asked about Dave and Paige and their family out in Puerto Rico right now, they have a generator and food and water, but there is a ton of flooding and the entire island is without electricity and power! Even though this intense storm is far away and we're not in the hurricane's path we're still getting scary lightning storms and intense thunder and rain here in southern Florida! Grateful our fire alarms are working and we're okay!

Glad the alarm went off. I just don’t understand why none of the other residents of your building left the building. I am with Jared, if an alarm is telling me evacuate…I am getting out!

I too do not understand that no one on their floor even opened their door to check the hallway. Plus not “one“ person on the stairs or outside. Seems very, very strange to me.

Maybe they heard these alarms more often? But yeah I’d be running out the building too. Even if it was a false alarm. Crazy! Though I love how at 1:44 Jered was saying no one was outside and someone was standing there behind him.

So glad you did as instructed. Ignoring the alarm could be a costly mistake for those who don’t respond. And by costly I mean deadly. As a survivor of the Santa Rosa, Ca fire in 2017 (Northern California) I know just how you felt when you were told to evacuate the building. Your heart drops and the beats fast as you get dressed and get outside. My experience was different because it felt like the whole town was outside and trying to get away. My house survived but some family and many friends and coworkers lost their houses. Please always respond to the alarm. Jared and Britt are great examples of how to protect yourself. Good job and I’m glad it was nothing more! Stay safe.

We had to evacuate a hotel in the middle of the night when the fire alarms went off. Our daughter was 4 at the time. It was extremely scary. I'm glad your brother and family are okay. To add to some others' comments by listening to information and evacuating, you saved some FireFighters some time having to evacuate you later.

I moved from Illinois to central Florida a little over a year ago and man nobody ever told us how bad the lightening storms get here. They say Florida is the lightening capital . So glad everything is ok. Never take anything for granted because you just never know. ALSO I'VE SAID THIS BEFORE. IF YOU EVER HEAR THUNDER THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT YOU CAN GET STRUCK BY LIGHTING NO MATTER HOW CLOSE THE THUNDER IS. Y'all always scare me when I see you out and about during a thunder storm. I've lived in the south my whole life and that was drilled into us at an early age. Please be careful out there we don't want anything bad to happen to the best KZbin family out here or anyone else. Have a blessed day.

Yeah last month here in Central FL a lady was killed from a lighting strike and she wasn’t directly hit, it was just near by and what was even more sad was she was watching her kid cross the street to get to the elementary school across the street and it happened. She had a dog with her and dog got shocked too but survived.

Most storms/ loud noises set off alarms, so if it’s bad weather a lot of people just ignore alarms. You did the right thing though because say lighting struck like the circuit breaker and caused a true fire and you really did need to evacuate, at least you and your family would be able to get out in time. Since it’s hurricane season, may want to keep a bag packed and ready to go at all times in case something were to happen unexpectedly, you can grab that bag and go.

You are right guys, always take the alarms seriously. I worked in a medical building where the alarms went off all the time and there was nothing going on. We would laugh about it and keep on working until maintenance shut off the alarm, Well, one day that happened and there was a real fire in the building. My office (I was no longer working there) was alerted to truly evacuate. Sadly, one of the firemen was killed in the fire. I was a wreck as I still had many friends working there. Thank goodness they were all ok. So yes, always evacuate. Glad the family in Puerto Rico are ok.

Jared and Brittany, that was a very intense storm system! Not sure if it was related to Hurrican Fiona. How weird that the other building tenants all seemed to be gone - hardly any cars in the garage. THAT REMINDS ME - YOU BOTH NEED TO CREATE A *HURRICANE SAFETY PLAN* one for evacuating and one for staying. There is a storm in the Caribbean right now that they are forecasting to come to Florida - DO NOT BE CAUGHT OFF GUARD!!! Make some type of contingency plan now! (if you haven't already). Personally, I live in Houston and have gone through Hurricanes before. It is a LOT WORSE high up in a building like y'alls! Glass windows can and will break! then wind and rain will get in - make preparations for this type of thing! I've seen glass all over downtown Houston after certain Hurricanes - it's a very real thing! Best thing would be to evacuate in y'alls case - you don't want to be up high when/if a Hurricane comes through. God Bless y'all!

When I lived in Louisiana I was on the phone (back in the day when phones had cords) lightning struck our building. My ear suddenly got really really hot, I threw the phone down on the counter & said that was weird the phone just got really hot. I picked up the phone again it didn’t work. I called the phone company. Because I was on the phone when lightning struck the building it fried our phone. Everything inside the phone was melted. I learned after that not to be in the phone during a lightning storm. Lightning storms in the South are no joke. I met a man in his late 20’s who said he had been struck by lightning 3 times.

It's always better to be safe than sorry. Lightening is so scary. I live in NW Florida and I have great respect for lightening now. I have had a tree hit in my yard which then streaked through the ground busting sprinkler pipes and shooting out in our garage through the sprinkler control panel. Talk about scary! my neighbors took a really bad hit a couple of years ago and it did $6000 worth of damage to his home. Surrounding homes had some damage as well. He has actually been struck by lightening himself in the past. Don't ever mess around with lightening. Jared stay off the balcony! lol My Pups are terrified of storms. I'm glad little Fin isn't too scared. Glad everything turned out ok this time. ❤️

So scary. You guys did the right thing. You can't become complacent. You never know. Glad you're both okay. ❤️

This couple is absolutely ridiculous lol. If they went to Sanibel Island, or other areas that were hit really hard by hurricane Ian then they would delete this ridiculous video of a lightning storm.

That was so weird and scary that no one else evacuated the building... whether you think it's a false alarm or not always evacuate! I'm glad you guys did. And I'm glad all is ok and all are safe!

Glad to hear your brother and his wife are doing ok. That must be the same one going by DR. The distance between them is not far. Branden and Mindy said Madi cannot leave where she is living right now because of the hurricane. Wow, I don't know if I could handle hurricane season. We just had a tornado go thru are town Sunday night and that was enough. But I am with you guy's if an alarm is going off that means evacuate. One of these times which I hope never happens it could be real and what are they just going to sit still until the firemen come thru? I am just glad everything was OK for you guys. 🥰

I can confirm that is how fire alarms in high rise building's like yours are supposed to work where only certain floors are notified of a emergence so that way you don't have a million or more people running down the stairs trampling over each other making a even more unsafe environment.

People are lazy! There was a fire in my small apt. Building years ago and i was the only one who called the fire dept. and police and went outside with my cat, the fire dept had to force people to come outside, crazy! You did the right thing!
