Great informative video. We bought up tons of the stuff you named out which makes me feel good, that means we are on the right track.... We bought a lot of canned chili, we bought half with beans and half without and so for the 2 of us, we use one can of each.....Seems like the chili with beans isn't very meaty, but the chili without beans is meatier, so with the 2 combined makes a pretty good batch of chili... Beef stew is better if you add little Worcestershire steak sauce in it.... We bought tons of different type of condense soups, spaghetti and meat balls, raviolis (which is hard to find, especially with in meat sauce and also beef a Roni. We also bought canned veggies we like, corn, green beans, canned tomatoes in all forms, canned spaghetti sauce... We even have cans of tomatoe paste and after 2 years because the acid in the tomatoe will break down the can, we will open all the cans of tomatato paste and dehydrate it to make powdered tomatoe paste that will last for a very long time. We have a large sized tote full of all type and flavors of seasonings. Thank you Dr. Eric..... Have a blessed day everyone.

As far as Vienna Sausage goes, I like to pop the lid the lid part way open and drain the liquid. Then remove the lid completely and pour several tablespoons of BBQ sausage into the can on top of the meat. Use a spoon or fork to cover the spaces between the sausages with the sauce. Then eat the whole can's contents 1/3 of the top layer and then proceed to do the same for the f 2/3 rds of the can. Taste great, you get some protein, fiber and fats and no kitchen cleanup except for the eating utensil. Another thing I like to do is drain the liquids from a tuna can and then eat it on Saltine crackers. You get your protein and fats from the tuna and energy from the crackers in the form of carbs. It too tastes great. And there is no kitchen cleanup to waste your drinking supply of water.

I get what you're saying. I've eaten a 7-year old can of Amy's Chili with no ill effect but am not a fan of the soy which can interfere with the production of thyroid hormones, and can cause problematic menstrual periods for younger women (learned from my own experience). I try to go organic, 60% to 70% of the time, but recently I saw a sale on Chunky's Campbell for $1.50 a can and snatched up 70 cans. These cans are normally $3.49 a can, but I try to see how far down on the list of ingredients the offending ingredients are, like seed oils and soy. Can't argue with the $139.30 in savings. Strangely, the label doesn't show that they're bio-engineered which makes me believe they'll be changing over to the new labels. My first can was Campbell's Chunky with potatoes, broccoli and chicken, but I supplement with added organic broccoli, and organic rotisserie chicken, so it serves as the base for a sorta of casserole versus just a can of soup. This also attentuates any of the ill effects of "unclean" foods. I'm 65 years of age and don't plan to work secularly again, but I do see many older than me working in supermarkets like Giant and Costco. In addition to my Amy's soups, and other organic canned goods, I think I'm doing alright with my preps, especially my canned meats which include Wild Planet chicken, beef, sardines, mackerel and salmon. Try to catch those on sale, and recently have been adding Costco's Kirkland chicken and beef after I saw one of your fellow KZbin preppers do an open can comparison. Also, it's a plus that Del Monte has been non-GMO since 2016, and are the first in canned non-GMO corn. I was fortunate also to find an awesome sale on their different veggies. Also, avoid seed oils like I do arsenic poisons, hence, why I stock up on mayonnaise NOT made with canola oil even if it's labeled ORGANIC. All in all, I live in an urban setting with very little fridge and freezer space, so I'm loving my store-bought canned and jarred goods. Take care!

Actually stacking cans that nest well is not good practice as it does add some stress, though small, on that thin partially kerfed area of the pull top where it tears. It is better to use hardboard (Masonite) or a plastic sheet pieces that do not flex. And use them in smaller sheets that cover just a few cans and not the whole shelf (but adding a plastic liner on the shelf under the cans is a good idea to reduce corrosion potential). I use salvaged acrylic from dismantled computer monitors that is a little over 1/4 inch thick. Those from the Dell 15 and 17 inch monitors usually work the best. This can work for canning jars too, though you need a jar with a loose ring on each corner with the sealing ring loose enough to not contact the lid edge, but still engaging threads of the jar. Put another way, instead of the "finger tight" you did prior to putting into the pressure canmer, you need to back the lid off a bit from that point so as to not disturb the seal and allow for inspection in case of a failed seal If using newer hardboard, or thinner acrylic, you should support in the center area of each piece with jar with a fifth rings to correct for sag over time. (it would sort of a resemble a "5" on a Vegas or Yahtzee dice if viewed from above. Also, Keep barrels off the floor with 2x2 or 2x4 to reduce corrosion potential, as well as anything that might be a popcorn tin/Lard tin for if they are on the floor, these can rust through on the side you cannot see. Also, anything packaged in plastic bags with printing on them should get transferred to glass jars with a correctly sized Oxy absorber added. In spite of the recent negative press, these DO work if sized correctly for the amount of air/container size and used WITHOUT any dessicant packs as the Oxy absorbers will also absorb some or all of the water vapor present to work effectively. Just make sure to keep the amount of time between opening the sealed multi pack of absorbers and placement in the canning jars or other types of glass jar to an absolute minimum. Humidity will also make the "open time" much shorter than on a dry day. The lids will get sucked down in a day or two. Things like rice, split pea soup packs, Pasta, etc will be in these printed plastic bags. The Ink breaks down after about 6 months to a year and gets sticky. Over time this can also taint the flavor of the product within. If you re-use commercial jars like "Pickle Jars, Peanut Butter Jars, etc, or ar vaccum sealing canning jars, you need to close the lid snugly tight whether packing with an oxy absorber, vac sealing or packing with a dessicant pack.

If water is scarce it's good to have pouches of precooked rice and pasta. Shelf life is about two years so they do need to be rotated. They need to be stored in a manner that they can't be pierced such as in a plastic container with lid. There are ready made cups of rice but they only have a foil or plastic lid and not sure of the shelf stability on those. Add a pouch of ready rice to any canned meat and vegetable for a meal.

When it comes to myself buying can’s for storage for SHTF, I don’t care about gmo. I buy as much for as little as possible meaning it will have GMO, if I get 3cans to the price of 1 GMO free can, for SHTF storage I’ll take it. I’ll have food for 3x longer, GMO will be the least of my worries. That being said, the food we eat right now, today, is all home cooked, no GMO, fresh and clean. Long term storage though, more is better in my eyes, nutrition dependent obviously. Buying 3x the amount of cans for one that has 3x less nutrients is pointless.

@GoshenPrepping Yes, it is! I think that people need to read the labels on the cans of food. Campbell's soup also has bioengineered products in it. It's getting difficult to find products that don't have bioengineered items in them. Even milk has it, or they will put a statement on the milk carton about the hormones that they give the cows really has no effect on the product or consumer...yeah??? Drink or eat enough, and it will. People wonder why they are sick and stay sick. As the saying goes, "You are what you eat( consume)." Well, there you go. Frozen foods have SO MUCH sodium in them. And those that eat nothing but frozen entrees wonder why they have high blood pressure. Personnel, I try very rarely eat a frozen entree and try to avoid the "bio" items. It is getting very hard to avoid them since the manufacturers are adding the "bio" to the product, or the product is bioengineered by being grown that way.
