Pegi and Don, I love how you are showing real life...and we're all doing some real living. Cutting those 2x4's down. That would be me...I don't have fancy tools...I have some saws, and when I need to get something done, I'm using what I have. It isn't pretty or perfect but it gets the job done. So, great inspiration for a lot of people!

@@mirandaholley9797 It most likely is. I got accustomed to one thing growing up. Plus it was palatable as a kid. I remember being sick so many times and so parched then...and I would get coached to take "baby sips." And you'd take a bunch of "baby sips" over a few hours to hydrate and settle your stomach.

I have made huge pots of Mexican style rice and black beans. I use the low sodium taco or enchilada season mixes with some salsa my kids and family loves them!! They often put sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and eat with a tortilla and make a good meal. I love beans and rice cause I can flavor them many different ways and we know beans and rice are cheap...

Agreed! When Pegi said that, it made me think of a few meals. And one that I still make to this day....because it's a "comfort food" for me:" pasta shells with meat sauce (ground beef, tomato sauce, and herbs/spices). Still love it to this day! :) In fancier terms it would be something like a "bolognese sauce." But I think this was a low-brow version. LOL.

I am like Ms. Pegi and determined to be as stocked up as possible by the end of October. I am still not over the shock of empty shelves at Trader Joes and my supermarkets in late March 2020. My wife and I brought a French Press and coffee grounds with us last time we staid in a hotel so we wouldn't have to drink the hotel room coffee. You might consider adding a French Press to your stores so you can make coffee in smaller quantities with just warm water. You guys are great! Last Saturday I picked up 195 items from Walmart - mainly Great Value brand. I search Walmart and find my local store and select inventory and place my order making sure the items are available for pick up in that store and place and pay for my order. Employees gather my items and place in the pick up kiosk. The items are loose packed in either bags or boxes and they will hold for 7 days awaiting your arrival. Last Saturday my only in store shopping, pushing the cart and standing in line to pay was for fresh produce and meats. Love this Walmart service.

Hello Pegi and Don. First I want to compliment you both. You did a great grocery slash Prepper haul. Now I want to tell you. When you did your buetane stove cooking video I had told you I have one but couldn't find it. Well today I showed my son your video on it. He said the same thing I told you in my comment. He said mom I didn't know it was so easy to hookup that stove to use. He saw the whole video. Then he said let me get it. He knew where it was all along and didn't bother to tell me. He pulled it out. It's the same exact one you have. So today I went to Sam's club. They didn't have the buetane gas for it. So while I was at Sam's he walked over to Walmart and managed to find only 5 cans. Just like you said it was a little less then $3.00 a can. Now he did go to the bakery section and tried to get the empty buckets of sugar. The lady said she didn't have any. But at Sam's I went to the bakery and spoke to a very nice and polite young man. And he did tell me he was going to throw the buckets out. I kindly asked. And he did give me 3 of the buckets with the kids . I got myself a grocery hall. What ever I could afford. I am very happy. I want to thank you both for giving us excellent ideas. My son really enjoyed your video. He loves the music. He was up here dancing in my kitchen. Can't wait to cook on the buetane burner. My son hooked it for me. Tomorrow I going to use it. Thankyou so much.

Y'all have one of the best looking prep pantry. I congratulate you for your forethought. I came over here from Prepper Potpouri because she showed freezing scramble eggs which is the way I eat eggs but I asked if you could just freeze whole eggs the same way. One of the other ladies said to watch your channel, you had just done that. This was the first video of y'all I saw. I liked it so I subscribed. Now I am going to watch the whole egg one. Thanks for sharing your ideas. I may be 81 but it does not mean I can't learn something new. I throw away too many eggs. Have a Blessed day.

Freezing eggs is a great idea. After you blend the cracked eggs (must do this..yolks get funky if not broken), one cup of scrambled mixture equals 4 large eggs. So one half cup is two eggs. Then you can freeze them flat in zip loc bags, great for saving space in the freezer.

Pegi and I have been trying to determine which method is best and we are leaning towards the blended eggs method.

You need to check if you can get an adapter hose for your Coleman to be able to attach the 1 lb propane tanks. Once you get that hose you can get the 1 lb to 20 lb adapter hose. The 1 lb propane tanks can serve double duty as a source of fuel for cooking and a source of fuel for heat. You should also look into a Mr. Heater buddy heater and wool or wool blend blankets with winter coming just in case you lose heat.

Your pantry sounds so much like mine used to about 15 years ago. As I got older, for health and food issues, I had to purge my pantry and transition to gluten free, sugar free and minimally processed. I also, now eat really low carb. I love how our pantries evolve with us. A good pantry is, we store what we eat and we eat what we store. You are doing a great job and I am loving how you are using the food in your favorites meals. Struggle meals is a great term. We used to call them hobo meals, which we ate a lot in the early years raising the kids, For electrolyte replacement, I use bullion cubes. I can’t drink sugars or dyes much, so I had to figure out a replacement for Gatorade. Bullion is lite and shelf stable. I put the cubes in a glass jar and it will pretty much last for ever. The brand I use is OX. I comes in little plastic jars on Amazon. I agree with don, I use ginger for tummy issues, you can also get ginger slices or keep some in the freezer. I can’t do sugar. I dry ginger and use it in drinks when my tummy needs help. I love coffee too! I do use heavy whipping cream and make my own flavors because I, personally, am not a fan of the ingredient list. I have small half pints of coffee spices and flavoring (even pumpkin spice). That jarred Alfredo sauce is pretty darn good! Lemon pepper is my favorite, I have not used that packet... I will have to look at it and see if I can eat it. We always keep tortilla chips on hand. During the stay at home time during the covid outbreak, that was what we missed the most. We got 1/2 gallon jars and transfer the chips and vacuseal the jars. One jar is a serving for us. They will stay fresh for about 9 months in the jars. We keep about 3 to 4 bags worth on hand at all times now.

Wow, Linda! That is a lot of information! Thank you 😊! We expect our pantry to evolve over time; some foods will be added and some will be taken away. As our health and needs change, so will our preparations. Thanks again

Peggy!! You can freeze the guacamole in the little container (as is, from the store). Just thaw the afternoon before you eat it (or submerge it in water to thaw). 👍💖

Like others like to see some “struggle” meals. When I was a kid my mom always added rice or pasta to chicken soup. For condiments I find Costco is the better deal for me. You should see if there is a restaurant supply store in your area they usually have best price on staples sugar, flour etc but you will have buy the 50 lb bags

We would normally have a Sunday roast (come back from church and it was done!) as a kid. Then we would eat off of that for a while during the week. All sorts of versions. One would always be soup...like chicken or turkey soup. Amazing, once you add the rice or pasta, how hearty that soup would be and how much you'd get from it!

Other things would be sandwiches for lunches, hot open-face sandwiches with gravy for dinner, pot-pies, etc. It's amazing how much you can get out of one roast...and have delicious, nutricious, hearty meals! roasts can seem very expensive, but when you consider how many meals can come out of it, plus less fuel or time in the kitchen...they actually work well in a budget.

Don, As a child and an adult chicken and dumplings are my favorite meal. My grandmother made the best homemade dumplings ever(of course everything grandmother and mother makes the best…lol), but on Sunday I would sit at the kitchen table and watch her roll those dumplings and couldn’t wait for a plate full. When she past away my mother started making it for me as my own special family Sunday dinner and of course it’s PERFECT!!!
