A few days ago, I started going through my nightly routine of getting ready for bed. I brushed my teeth. and then changed into my pajamas. When I change my clothes, I deflated my tracheostomy tube cuff and disconnected from my ventilator. I attached a heat and moisture exchanger to keep my lungs hydrated for the few minutes I am not connected to my ventilator.
As I pulled off my shirt, suddenly my tracheotomy tube popped out and conveniently landed in my hand. I looked at the tube in astonishment. The tracheostomy tube holder was still attached to the tracheotomy tube, but the velcro which allows for the tracheostomy tube holder to be adjusted to the proper neck width had unfastened itself. #lifewithavent #tracheostomy #hme

God has been helping you each time emergency happens! You are such a calm person, not panicking in trying times. I really admire you for being such an inspiration to all, for your strength and wisdom, even in that situation you choose to be strong, to disseminate medical facts and trouble shooting as you personally experienced them. You shared so many important life saving medical infos to many patients and to general people as well. You chose to help others than to give in and feeling low with that adversity. I have been watching your videos, and they truly inspired and keep me knowledgeable of so many things. You mentioned you were reading your Bible while waiting in one of your med. procedures, so I know you are a true Christian, so beautiful, has Godly wisdom, Godly willed because you have that spiritual fruits that strengthens you. Keep it up, God bless you more and more! ❤

Hi lovely vent lady❤️am so glad you saved the trach from falling on the floor, you always come across as a very calm person & I expect this has happened in the past! Thankfully you have a certain amount of time you can manage without the ventilator breathing for you! It's good the first section of piping is quite thin! God was looking after you as always! People forget how hard it is for the relative who keeps a watchful eye on you! It's easier now your mum knows what to look for! Do you have a back up ventilator if this one packs up? You & your family are always in my prayers,I hope your dad's sight is doing better! Sending so much healing love & thank you being a wonderful friend as losing my hearing is very hard to cope with 😭😭

That is some serious talent to get that put in and the collar etc. My hubby does mine for me I did change mine out 1x I was not a super fan of doing that and I was like geese I would have to call 911 to get it back on as I dont think I could drive and hold the trach the not even 1 mile to the firehouse! So I only change mine when he is here to change it. You talk VERY well while being hooked up to your machines. Not sure how long you have had a trach or what caused it but looks like you handle this all very well. I have had mine since February and I am due to go back in for laser surgery to get the rest of the scar tissue as the vent had paralyzed my vocal cords. I talk good now if I have my caps on. Which is of course good. I have to say your pretty calm about having that trach fall out I would of freaked. I did buy these other collars that are not the dale bands as I dont like the way they are on my neck. Thanks for all your videos!

What a relief! You scared me! This is something I worry about all the time as my daughter arms is very short and she can't raise her arms up high enough nor place her hands up around her neck. I am always thinking there got to be another way for her to put in her trach tube if it falls out and put trach ties in place herself. She is 36 yo with dwarfism size body large head narrow neck and very rough pulling her shirt off over her head.

Thank you for sharing some of your story. If you are concerned about the trach tube falling out, do not use trach tube holders, but use trach tube ties. Trach tube holders have velcro on them and can unfasten. This is why my trach tube fell out. The velcro failed. Trach tube ties are just like shoe laces. They are tied around the neck. The trach tube ties can be knotted several times to make it very difficult (if not impossible) for the trach tube to fall out. In order to remove the trach tube, the trach tube tie has to be cut with a scissors. Parents with small children often use trach tube ties so their little ones cannot remove their trach tubes.

@@LifewithaVent Thank you also for bring my attention to the trach tube holder and ties. I have never used them when they send one with a new trach tube I always thought them away. The ties seems like it would be very rough on the skin but at the same time I have been very concern that the trach tube holder gets bigger sometime particular after a shower. Then the tube can be out about an inch or two after reconnected to the vent tubing. Luckily her trach tube length is 91mm long but her neck height size is very narrow you can only slide maybe 1.5 finger from the base of her jaw to the top of her shoulder area and less from the back because of her dwarfism (big head and small neck). The tube holder is up in her hair and up to her ear area. I wish there was something else that can be used. I have to see if the basic of her head neck and jaw is pulling the tube holder apart and one side of her neck gets very red. Thanks also for the telling me how to put the nebulizer set up on the Triology. I don't want to tired you out so closing take care.

@@carol8696 Thank you so much for sharing. The trach tube holder does often get bigger after showering. I have noticed that. It sometimes goes back to its original size once it dries, but sometimes it remains a larger size. If it seems to be too big, I will unfasten the velcro and make the trach tube holder smaller. That is very interesting about her dwarfism. I will keep a lookout for any information I may get from respiratory therapists or other people with trach tubes. If I get any suggestions I will pass them along to you.
