Desmond Hart encountered a thinking machine inside the worm at Arrakis. The thinking machine was hiding there from the humans. The thinking machine re-engineered Desmond or got inside him. The thinking machine inside the worm knows somehow the existence of the thinking machine at the Sisterhood's planet and wants to make contact or infect it, while keeping it secret of fear that humans will destroy Desmond and the thinking machine at Sisterhood. So Desmond leaves his blood that contains the message or the virus for the thinking machine at Sisterhood and Valya will fall in the trap and put it for analysis in the thinking machine at Sisterhood. Valya cannot use her power at Desmond because Desmond is not human anymore. Desmond did not kill Valya since Valya (and her sister Tula) has access to the thinking machine at Sisterhood planet. Desmond killing powers are somehow like microwaves created inside him, think about Havana syndrome, and it explains the damage at his skin. The only problem is Reverend Mother Kasha kill location, but I suppose it will be explained in future episodes.

PREDICITON: All the Vorian Atrides hints are a misdirect & Desmond is a thinking-machine - the blue eyes inside the sand worm was the last viable thinking-machine that, when Desmond is swallowed up, escapes wearing Desmond like a mech suit. Not agreeing with the eyes being the God Emperor. The odds of the series getting that far is....slim. Not only that, Leto II is so far ahead in the narrative it would seem a little crazy to start planting the seeds of his existence now. Makes more sense for the eyes to represent a machine since this storyline is far closer to the Jihad than the events of even the first Dune book. Also, face dancers have been on screen before - Scytale was in the mini series way back in 2003.
@TheROMaNProject2 күн бұрын
This was a truly outstanding and unpretentious review and analysis of S1E4; far too many others get off track or push their personal opinions off as fact, but you always note when you are guessing or explaining your opinion. Also, you’ve performed an admirable job of tying storylines and individuals between the books, movies, and this series. I will follow your channel from now on. Kudos. P.S.: I am 75 and first read Dune while serving on submarines in the 1970s, and became a devoted fan of the Dune series, and believe his son has wonderfully expanded on the Dune universe and chronology. That the two recent Dune movies were able to capture the essence of the books and present it in such a way that moviegoers could enjoy the shows without needing to have read Dune felt to me like a very good adaptation of a novel to the big screen, unlike David Lynch’s 1984 version which although I liked the movie, my wife (who hadn’t read Dune) felt completely lost by the movie.

Theory: Desmond hart character is a thinking machine pretending to be the "real Desmond hart" who actually died on arakkis. Would explain why he can "microwave" people and cook them, why the voice didn't work on him, and since there are a few thinking machines left, a way for the machine's to try and infiltrate the top tiers of humanity instead of outright fighting them
@giada951Күн бұрын
I have read theories about Desmond's origins. I really dubt Desmond is a Ghola or some kind of machine. I am not saying a thinking machine inside the worm is impossible, just it doesn't make sense to me. Yes, the sound we hear inside the worm and the glowing eyes make us think of a thinking machine but that could be a red herring. I have watched interviews where Travis Fimmel just says his character's childhood has something to do with his deep hate towards the Sisterhood. So, here is another theory: The DNA test at the end of episode 4 may reveal Desmond was part of the Bene Gesserit's AI breading program that Tula and Valya maybe weren't aware of, and whatever happened to Desmond inside the worm he was almost certainly being affected by the spice which awekened some abilities. That would explain why Desmond has powers and he can resist the Voice, because of spice and bloodline. A product of the Sisterhood's immoral breading program, that should never have existed, against them. The reckoning Raquella saw.

I don't know, it felt natural for me. He is the right hand of the emperor and we all saw the nobles were too cowardly to act first/directly/openly against emperor, so I wasn't surprised at all. I believe Desmond Hart is the son of Admiral Hart from the book "Navigators of Dune". Admiral Hart served the previous emperor, Javicco's father, Roderick Corino. I believe his powers may be of Tleilaxu origin. He may be one of those Quizatz Saderach experiments they tried. Whatever he is, I believe he is of Tleilaxu origin due to the fact that the Tleilaxu are always in opposition to the sisterhood.

Of those houses that were mentioned, the only one I recognized from the prequel books was House Vernius who was in control of Ix and manufacturing spacefold ships up until just before the start of the original series timeline. I.e. Leto the first and Paul both had many interactions with them. They really took control of technology advances way later than this series, but for a while before then the Rocheeses (the kid and father who were burned) were on top and that's also the house that Paul's grandma came from.

Thanks for this, I missed half of the references. This episode makes me nervous the show is about to get sloppy real fast. 1) This might be more about viewers' interpretation, but the parliament we see is not the Landsdraad and Harrow was not invited to join the Landsraad because House Harkonnen is already a member, along with about 13K other houses. What we saw was the High Council (of the Landsraad) and that is what Harrow was elevated to (the lords who invite him say "High Council"). But this was unclearly depicted. The Landsraad is like a parliament and the High Council like cabinet. 2) You say Rasputin left his blood on purpose for the Reverend Mother because it was done so obviously. I hope you're right and it isn't sloppy storytelling. 3) Not buying the whole Rasputin/Emperor alliance reveal in front of the High Council. 4) You said Harrow is off the hook for accusing the Emperor because of the princess; can you explain what you mean? Because he did still accuse him; I thought the point was that he exposed himself needlessly. 5) Really, really annoyed with Facedancer reveal at the end for two reasons; i) It was very unclear who that was and I only now know for watching our video; and ii) The scene has no in-story purpose. The Sister despises her ability and did not want to do it; the Rev said she'd only ask her to do it a last resort; then the Sister facedances for what reason...? Just to give the Rev a look at her dead brother? This makes no in-story sense and seems to be just a sloppy device to show the viewer who she really is and to flog the dead maudlin horse of "she is sad her brother is dead"--we get it! Anyway, so far so good, but I'm worried the writing and storytelling is about to get clunky and needlessly over-emotional like a "Star Trek Discovery" or "The Rings of Power."
@matthewstein5854Күн бұрын
I am loving the show but 100% agree the facedancer reveal/story was very confusing and poorly displayed. I didnt even realize that was Griffin in the last scene. I thought it was Harrow who she was thanking for risking himself for the house and as he walked away he was being burned/killed by Desmond and she knew this wld be the outcome but Desmond spared him in the high council but now killed him bcuz of his accusation. Showing he doesnt purely "kill" based on the morality of AI but is now using it for revenge/power. Realizing now that that was Griffin and she hugged him seems absolutely pointless and benefits no one. It also goes against the hardened mentality Valya is meant to display. She uses a facedancer so she can see and hug her brother. It doesnt really match the sociopathic character we have been presented. I guess it doesnt really help that Harrow and Griffin look somewhat similar especially in that low lighting. Definitely agree with you that the facedancer reveal was poorly handled. I'm sure it will have more significance later but this initial reveal was confusing and served no purpose especially considering Theos reluctance to want to use the power.

Paul being an anomoly, followed by Leto II, was still a result of 10,000 year breeding program up until Lady Jessica and perhaps Leto Atreidis. Maybe what this will do is re-affirm their faith in the path, like a create a more faithful sub-group that believes in Kwisatz Haderach. But the Bene Gesserits believeing that they will be able to control that power, like Valya (thinking that she can use her position to solidify the Harkonnen name) will be their recknoning.

And they hardly even use the voice. It's more like a party trick right now. Instead they focus on some guy that is basically just burning people which isn't all that impressive. I could do that with some gasoline and a match, can I go to the palace too 😅.

Yes, it's true that Valya created "The Voice" but, how she accomplished this in the show is entirely wrong. Honestly, they've broken at lot of the lore, the timeline, and the true motivations behind the main characters from the books. This show is making Dan and Dave's work on seasons 4 - 7 of GOT look like chief's kiss when they ran out of book material. This shower runner had access to a treasure trove of book material to go off and this is her best work? She need's to go back to creative writing school.

@derrickj45 Yeah. And keep in mind that it was the lore of his son's work, so not cannon. I always thought that his and Anderson's work would have made for an easier interpretation as it is relatively shallow. But, I was clearly incorrect! And how the fk can you have 'the talent' to shape shift?! I mean, what?!!!

Is the reckoning Kralizec? They termed it ‘Arafel’ which would suggest it is Kralizec

Kimmel portrayal is great. Bud is the essential antihero, he and Mark Strong help to strengthen the weak aspect of he cast; and I mean the challenges that seasoned actresses like Emily Watson and Olivia Williams have got to face with younger actors playing their younger counterparts trying to keep the synergy, is no easy feat as much as I like Jessica Barden and it'd an honor if Emma Canning would give me a session.

The eyes are the machine

Spoiler Alert? The eyes are Arafel, seen through the God Emperor. Arafel is a prescient thinking machine from far in the future, Arafel is the reason the God Emperor genetically engineered humans who are immune to prescience. When he died, the God Emperor said the Ixians can no longer build Arafel. The show is depicting the moment in time that the Bene Gessirit become aware of Arafel's prophecy.

Yea I also disagree on the eyes, I think that would be the easy and obvious answer (Worm God) but the mechanical sounds makes no sense tied to Paul or Leto 2nd

I'm listening to Sisterhood Of Dune and I'm starting to agree with you Charlie Desmond is Vorian Atreides just based on how he talked about living machines and The Machine Wars btw the division in the Sisterhood is in the book as well

12:21 House Vernius rules Ix. Hagal (a world known for gemstones) is the only other House Major I'm familiar with. Lord Hagal (played by Callum Coates) is one of the people who gets cooked. RIP

My own theory crafting is that Desmond Hart portrayed by Travis Fimmel - is in fact Albert Atreides played by Archie Barnes; the boy (Oscar Tully) who survived at the end of Episode 3.

I concur. The actor said that something in Desmond’s childhood drives his hate of the BG. Changing his identity to hide from the Harkonnens would make sense since he was the only witness.

It's way way too early in the time line for Face Dancers. In the books it took generations to get to the point that artificial face dancers could imitate humans. This seems far too early.
