Thank you so much for sharing. This phobia controls my life, beyond anything, and i've always felt like a "freak" for having it. People who dont have it, really really dont seem to get it, I agree - I have been told that I have been so uncaring and cruel / nasty running away when people are sick, or not offering help etc, and it makes it feel 10 times worse. Mines got worse recently, because of anxiety - and I totally get how vicious that cycle is! I can be fine one minute, and the next on the kitchen floor, with my legs frozen panicking, room spinning, and im more afraid of v than dying. So the fear of dying that many people face in panic attacks doesnt affect me, its more the fear of being sick. And you're right, panic creates nausea, which creates yet more panic. Right now (I was assaulted a while back which started the panic but thats a different story) I struggle to leave my house. I feel like as soon as im half way down the road, it will be too long to get back to my house. I tried one night, 24 times. Constantly back and forth and just couldnt make it. Panic came on, then the nausea, every time. The garden is as much as I can do now and in the past I have climbed every mountain where I live totally alone. Im a mountain leader, one which now cannot leave the house :( When I was working at a field centre years back, and the dreaded norovirus came across, 3 people I was sharing with were ill, and I literally moved out. I made the mistake of telling people that I saw them as "walking virions" (not the most sensitive, but I was only trying to be honest, not nasty!), didnt go down well at all. And like you, when I knew a student had been sick on a path, id walk half a mile to avoid it. Ive been on planes (also phobic of those, but more handleable when emetophobia is at bay), but now I wont even do a bus. And I agree waking up to the sound has to be the worst- I was shaking violently one night when I heard my brother, it was absolutely terrifying. Im ok with that of other species too. Ive had more to do with cat than dog vomit, and it just looks almost identical to before she ate it (!). Doesnt smell either. Something else im very embaresed over, is when my mother was sick when I was at home, and for weeks after I couldnt go near that toilet. I went outside to do both number 1 and 2 (!), in the garden. Sorry I know that sounds terrible. Also had to hide the fact I was doing that of course. But was absolutely petrified of that toilet :( I cannot pinpoint my phobia to a trigger either, grew up with it like you :( Thanks for sharing. :)

She is the only person out of the about 100 videos I watched where she had the exact to the train of thought I have. Only scared of human sick. I the amusement park for spring break this week, I saw sick at least twice and I had panic attacks and had to clean the bottom of my shoes so I could pack them and feel OK with having them *cleanish in my suitcase, I still don't know how I will wear them again. I also constantly searched on the internet which rides to avoid where people usually get sick. I actually go on a ride that I knew was one of them and started having a panic attack and told my mom I had to get off. On the way out, it was traumatizing to hear the ride workers to talk about how to get rid of the smell of someone's sick on the ride. The other one was at our hotel we were staying at in the parking lot and it rained, I thought it transferred through the whole parking lot and it made me panic. I've always had this fear, but this trip triggered it enough to the point I had to look it up. Now I know the word for something I've been struggling with my whole life. My anxiety and depression got really bad this year and I'm afraid to tell my mom my new discovery of a lifelong thing I've been struggling with.

I feel exactly the same. Going to school everyday is a struggle. Especially in stomach bug season! I freak out the night before worrying about what could possibly happen the next day. Even when it's not stomach bug season

I hate doing everything I loved before I had this phobia. I used to love performing and going to people's houses and going places. But now I cant. I have anxiety and when I start to get anxious and it makes my stomach hurt and I would be like "oh I'm gonna puke" and start to freak out. I begin to think that anything (like my stomach growling, burping, gas) was a sign that I am gonna be sick. It happens like every single day. One day, I was in the office at school and some kid threw up and I ran to the bathroom and I didn't know what to do and teachers had to force me to come out and I wouldn't. They ended up having to call my mom to come get me out. I would rather die than throw up or even see somebody throw up. And I wish that my emetophobia would just go away.

I sympathize with you. I am 35 and I've suffered with Emetophobia my whole life. You can get better. I'm not saying a cure but you can improve your quality of life dramatically with practice of the right skills and time. Believe me if you've been suffering with Emetophobia then you are stronger than you think!

I have the same problem. It has ruined my life. Every time someone says I'm feeling sick I have a mental breakdown and I start shaking and crying. I faint every time someone is sick. I can't go on any school trips and I can't go on planes either. I have to see a therapist as I faint so much because my class has a person with acid reflux in it. I always have escape routes in my classes in case that person throws up and I have to run out. I've missed so many opportunities to go to other countries and go skiing and stuff with school. I haven't traveled In 4 years because of my phobia.

Conquering the anxiety of vomiting in any public ploace, just skyrockets your confidence... there may be some meds and stuff that do work in the long term, but by googling around you can find Gunther Streplock's website that makes it impossible not to have a relaxed body and mind to just go with the flow.

Omg. Im not the only one. Im 12 and just found this video. I've had emetophobia for as long as I can remember, but like you, I can't think of an event which triggered it. It's not the worst case, but still affects me a lot. At school, if someone even starts coughing I start freaking out that they're gonna be sick. It's so horrible. The slightest thing someone does, even if they don't feel sick at all, makes me so distracted and I keep looking at them to check if they're okay. When someone says they feel sick, I shake so much, I get really hot, butterflies, I feel sick too, I can't do my work, etc. I worry in advance and over think situations where vomiting is so unlikely anyway. It's pure hell. Help.

I have the same problem! What helped me was to force myself to watch people vomiting it was very hard but I started watching these videos on KZbin called Wreckless eating about these guys who eat food that tastes so bad it would make them vomit I watch them over and over and over again to where it didn't make me physically sick. Just a thought maybe it would help you.
