This is a very nice walk through of the building process, it is also the same process used to RE-CONE a driver, with the exception of the tear down, clean and component assessment phases used in getting an old basket ready for re-use, and determining if ANY of the other components can be re-used. Thanks for the video!

It's not that Rockville are stupid. They deliberately produce low quality products because there's a demand for them. The market has spoken - it wants massive, powerful *looking* speakers at low prices that reproduce audio in a way that fits the circumstances of the individuals most likely to purchase them. They know that most people who buy speakers have mediocre taste in music, and play low bitrate ripped MP3s at inappropriate volumes in inappropriate places. Something like Rockville is just the ticket for that sort of application. Any band or artist who takes themselves seriously would buy something better than the cheapest option available.

Since you build speakers it would seem to make sense to have some rings to put on the surrounds for glueing rather than having to use dozens of clamps. I'm not a speaker guy, just something that popped into my mind when I saw you putting all those clamps on. Very cool video, interesting to see how it all comes together.
@EMFAudio
@EMFAudio 5 жыл бұрын
That's something I'd considered making, but ideally they'd be made from aluminum and it wouldn't be a simple ring, there would be some additional work to make them fit how I'd want them to and that means cutting down a big piece of billet. They'd be quite expensive, with multiples of them, in 3 different varieties per size for each basket we use. So to have enough for 2 subs at a time it would be 18 of them.

I very specifically showed measurements, and did math, watch it again. As far as the cone cut out goes, it's as precise as it needs to be. Realistically it could be 1/8" off and still be fine, I know it's within 1/16" "eyeballing it". If you're triggered by that, don't go measuring walls, floors, or ceilings in your house.
