Gordon. Thank you for your support. Ferrites are a simple way to add stability to anyone's system. Vince

Great post! I’m dealing with EMI problems on a USB interface (retrofit for a Fadal VMC)....and after driving a 4 foot cooper grounding rod through the concrete....same problems (Y axis jitter, machine faults). I’ve read that a common solution is to make the grounding rod the sole ground vs. at the ground at power supply....though this would be out of code and dangerous. I’ll give the ferrite cores a try and see if this resolves my issue.

Bob,Thank you for your support. Yes installing the proper ferrites will make a difference. I also carry tin braided copper to offer commercially rated shielding to any cable with poor performance. If you need some just message me.The other thing to remember about USB input devices is their is possible ground loops that may exist, and you may not know they do, I also have an EMI filter you can use on the end of the cable to eliminate these loops, and actually offer another level of active filtration. Thank you,Vince

I am currently assembling my control panel and I am utilizing ferrite’s where appropriate. I have four power supplies in my panel. Do you think it would be beneficial to section them off with an aluminum wall from the rest of the electrical components (Breakout board and drivers)? Or just a waste of time considering the proper use of the ferrite’s?

Hey Mike, thank you for your support. If you're using multiple power supplies segregation is an excellent idea as four units will amplify the noise. Another option that may be easier is to install 4 noise filters one for each unit which would provide active filtration, and accomplish the task even better. Have a great weekend! Vince

I’m using a uc100 with windows 10 and have been able to run my cnc for almost a year then all of a sudden I started getting uc100 sync errors out of no where. Any idea if using these would help with that? I notice if I wiggle the mouse every few mins the machine won’t get the errors. (All my power settings are off for USB and displays)

Hey Trevor, Thank you for your support. It sounds like your USB may be going to sleep if the mouse moving prevents the errors. You should try using USB selective suspend feature discussed here. www.windowscentral.com/how-prevent-windows-10-turning-usb-devices Another area you should is real time priority settings covered in my tutorial video here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIrEl6FtmtejfpI these will optimize your PC for CNC use. Thank you, Vince
