That was pretty damn good. Dude's f-ing 24. It was cool how he was poking the conversation in different spots versus beating it over the head with an anvil. I forget how dope that kind of comedy can be.

This was absolutely hilarious. Emil and I actually went to the same grade school, and I can tell you firsthand that everything he was saying was accurate. It was a different America back there, even for little kids. Hell, I’m Irish and even I don’t feel that in touch with my culture. Back there, it’s like heritage was always discussed as a topic, not as something that was actually a part of our identities. Anyways, Emil did an amazing job, hope more good things follow for him 🤘

There was a trans cashier at a local grocery store. I asked, "Do you guys (something something, can't remember what I asked)" and she said, "Excuse me?" Not quite offended, but enough to make me pause. I wasn't even thinking about gender in that way. Guess that one really does bother some folks. I think "you" still works, because it's singular or plural, but then it's confusing which one you're referring to. You/ye was the original plural second person, with thee/thou being the original singular. That's why you takes are. "You are cool." So I think we've got to re-adopt thee/thou...

I'll be one of the first in the comments to say I genuinely despise where Emil got his start doing comedy in Bloomington, Indiana. It's one of the worst comedy clubs I've ever visited and the place has been made fun of by Anthony Jeselnik, Joe Rogan, and Steve Hofstetter at length. However, Emil has worked his ass off for this opportunity and he did absolutely amazing when you take into account that he was doing a 5 minute spot on a censored broadcast. If you ever get the chance, go see Emil when he's performing in your town/city. This video is mild in comparison to what he's capable of and he kills every time he's on stage.
@timbertucker6445
@timbertucker6445 2 жыл бұрын
and it's been called the best or one of the best club's in America by Jimmy Pardo, Todd Glass, Maria Bamford, Tig Notaro, Paul Riser, Amy Shumer, John Mulaney and many others. Some pretty big names continue to come to that tiny club in a small town year in and year out because they love the atmosphere and how the leadership of the club treats them.
@TotallyOffensiveComedy

@@timbertucker6445 So it's a great place for comedians over 50? Cool, so are bingo tournaments and nursing homes. If I want to hear Amy Schumer's latest jokes, I'll just ask the comics she stole them from.

@@TotallyOffensiveComedy You mean old guys like Emil Wakim? Or the Artist Formally known as Tom Brady? Jared and the attic have done an amazing job of supporting the local talent. In a few weeks the Limestone festival will celebrate 10 years of bringing amazing talent of primarily alternative comedians to your little town. Its not really the club’s fault that you did poorly and the audience didn’t vote you through at the club’s summer stand up competition. Don’t feel bad Emil didn’t win either, nor did the person who IMHO is the best joke writer in the area. BTW- Jeselnik (40-something) trashed the club on Joe Rogan’s (age 54) podcast, but Rogan had no comment. Anthony’s comments about Jared fanboying in the green room were stupid. If I owned the place I would definitely be fanboying in the green room, but Jared just wants to be left alone in there so he can watch the Cubs. He’s fair game to be trashed for replacing the jalapeño poppers with tater tots or refusing to play Santana before shows, but there is a reason he is able to attract such well known talent to that little club. Or that he has such a loyal following among young, local stand-ups. Fun fact: Emil asked Jared to be in the green room of the Tonight Show with him, but the big dork broke his ankle a couple days before and couldn’t make the trip. You will have to link Hofstetter’s (40-something) comments cause no one seems to know what you are talking about.
@TotallyOffensiveComedy
@TotallyOffensiveComedy 2 жыл бұрын
@@timbertucker6445 Oh good grief, that competition was nearly 2 1/2 years ago and I was a first year comic who was way out of my depth and I couldn't hold the attention of a good room for more than 6 minutes at best. I had no business even doing that competition or being in that room. This is the internet, people disagree all the time. You can name drop all you want, but I'm going to side with people whose net worth equal 200x more than all the comics you've mentioned combined. Dude, you're in a world-wide forum acting like Bloomington, Indiana of all places is some type of comedy Mecca. That in and of itself, is hilarious. This is how I know I've matured. A couple years ago I would've given this a ton of attention and listed reasons and instances supporting my stance, and now I'm over here laughing because I said I didn't like a comedy club and Charles Grodin's sad stand in needs to don a white suit of armor and take up arms over it.
@timbertucker6445
@timbertucker6445 2 жыл бұрын
@@TotallyOffensiveComedy I like how your claim to not be giving this a ton of attention by, you know, giving it a ton of attention. But let's deconstruct shall we? So your premise is that net worth determines whether someone is correct in their opinion? Does this also mean you side with Joe Rogan's opinions on public health, etc? Or was your premise that his high net worth makes him a better comic? Joe Rogan's net worth is not near 200x more than all the comics I mentioned combined (it's actually quite a bit LESS than those comics combined, but I understand math can be hard) but I'm guessing mine comes close to being that figure compared to yours. By your metric does that make my opinion more valid than yours? Or perhaps it makes me a better stand-up than you. I didn't call The Comedy Attic a comedy mecca, you confused me with Marc Maron. That's not even a paraphrase. His exact quote about the club was "a comedy Mecca." In the past couple years two young stand-ups have gone from open mics at the attic to the tonight show. That's pretty impressive. Tonight I will go see by my count the the 6th SNL cast member do a set at that club. Doubt that will happen at Hoppy Wobbles anytime soon. I appreciate the Charles Grodin comparison. He always had an "elitist prick" vibe that I strive for. I'm not going to strike back by disparaging your act. That wouldn't be fair since I've not seen it. Perhaps one year your submission to Limestone will be approved and I can check out your set. If you are interested in being a part of the Limestone Comedy festival let me know. I often have some extra tickets.

Nope. No good. Comedians that rely on their identity for ALL their laughs are a dime a dozen. Jerry Seinfeld doesn’t do all Jewish jokes. Chris Rock? He mixes it up. He does comedy based on being an African American but he also has something to say. Now this was just a few minutes but every joke was “I’m THIS” instead “what about THIS”. See the difference? Great comedy, truly great stand up comedy, has the comedian saying things everyone has thought but haven’t been able to put into words. That’s why Seinfeld is the GOAT. There’s only one comedian who has gotten away with making his comedy about his identity and it worked for him because he was a pioneer, it was new and fresh, and that’s Richard Pryor. Now should this guy tell jokes about being middle eastern? Sure. Go for it. But for that to be your entire act? It’s easy pickings. And don’t get me wrong, you can be very successful doing that. But you won’t move the needle. I would’ve loved for this guy to come up with some great “what’s the deal” bits, except with his own spin, but instead he goes right into the stereotype shit. Low hanging fruit.

THANK YOU! I was so annoyed that 99 percent of the comments are like “OMG he’s hilarious/ hysterical/ a genius/ whatever” when the fact is that he’s doing that boring stuff that’s somehow working, because he can get away with it and that’s literally it. I’m sorry, I barely chuckled. And then that bit at the end about this little sob story of him being the outcast, that was far too long and too pitiful just to get to the “you did forget” punchline? Didn’t work for me. Only thing made me chuckle was that part about not knowing Arabic “cos I wanted to come to your birthday party”, that was cute. And DASSIT!!! It was too woke to work, imo. Also it bothered me how he’s waiting a bit longer than id wanted him to between jokes and crowd’s reactions. It wasn’t flowing. Btw a GOOD comedian who’s real god with making jokes about his ethnicity is Gianmarco Sorresy (probably butchering his name). He’s an American Italian Jewish dude and he’s incredibly funny, he knows exactly how much he can get away with and exactly when’s the right time to use this to his advantage. If you haven’t yet heard of him, check him out. Look up specifically for his “polygamist farm” clip, it’s epic. It’s some crowed work - and he’s amazing at crowed work.
