Pete Davidson era is what really kicked it off to be talked about on air a lot.

@@Possiblechange I think it's because a lot of popular artists like Taylor Swift, Lana del Rey, Olivia Rodrigo, etc. sing about their depression and also sing about characters with NPD, HPD, BPD, etc. type of personalities who are at the end of their rope. So zoomers and millennials who grew up on Taylor Swift and Pete Davidson think they know what it's like. Marcello tapped it! Emotional Isolation will sicken and injure anyone, and men go there or get put there way too much. The phobia, for men among men, to be vulnerable or relate sensitively and supportively with each other is common....even praised where 'macho' isn't a dirty word. I think it is Homophobia that gets most of the credit for this. Ridiculing boys, and men when they show weakness, gets the rest of the credit
@MntlWard10 ай бұрын
Yup! Men are too often conditioned to think they're not "real men" if they ask for help with anything.
@Afreshio10 ай бұрын
Also some women are also very sexist and if you show emotion to them it's like they witness something repulsive. Also if you grew in toxic latino culture in South America, the norm is that the women and men around you, growing up as a kid, is to teach to not to cry like a girl. My mom would discourage that, even though trying to listen to my problems. But yeah, no support in either women or men. There's also the loss of men spaces whilst women creating or conservating their own exclusive spaces to vent and be there.
@turquoisestranger75669 ай бұрын
@@AfreshioYou need to remember that it all comes back to the patriarchy and misogyny. Women are also victims to it, and internalize a lot of what men taught other men. Women adopted a lot of that. There’s women who believe women are weak, that women don’t deserve to be in positions of power and shouldn’t have the right to vote and those same women are the ones who believe men shouldn’t cry and that men are stronger, smarter etc. because of those beliefs against women, they believe men should be more superior and thus not behave feminine (I.e - weak, crying, showing emotion). Furthermore in no way, is creating safe spaces for women, a threat to men. Men being a threat to women is what called for the isolation or segregation between genders. That’s no excuse for men to not be able to create their own safe spaces amongst each other. If you look at whose behind all the “Men’s Mental Health Awareness” campaign, it’s always majorly women (especially in my country) because women seem to care about men’s mental health more than men unfortunately.

There was a woman, a lesbian who did an experiment passing as a het man for a year and wrote a book i think in early 2000s and said living a het man made her suicidal. (This is not a trans person at all, which may matter, it is not meant to be applied to trans and/or gay men, who are often connected to LGBT communities and networks plus trans men move to living as men under the pressure of dysphoria - escaping from something unwanted - so their experiences comparing life as a man to previous are likely to be much more liberatory and positive overall.) The experimentor divorced herself from LGBT community for her experiment. She said despite being taken more seriously at work, living as a straight man was very depressing. It was not just because she was forcing herself to be seen in a way she did not identify with, she expected that and coped. She said what really affected her was the way het men treat ec other was so shitty, toxic, competitive and isolating, and how their only source of real friendship and basic human support had to be sought from women in their lives. That despite even inequalities, women had so much more opportunity to be resilient and psychologically healthy because their relationships with other women were essentially supportive and like having therapy. She didnt use the term "toxic masculinity" (it wasnt really a popular term yet) but its essentially what she was talking about.
@ryanweible909011 ай бұрын
i like to point out that "toxic masculinity" was not a term coined by feminists, in the 80s there was this movement called the "mythopoetic mens movement" basically they were trying to redefine masculinity in the modern world, lots of weekend retreats in the woods and talking about their feelings, basically the guy that coined the phrase, Shepard Bliss, was talking about the risk that if men didn't find a healthy way to adapt to the modern world, we were going to go basically feral and emphasize the worst traits. and with people like andrew tate...gotta tell you, bullseye.
@zoyadulzura749011 ай бұрын

@TheAccidentalViking11 ай бұрын
The 'researcher' you're referring to was very unwell herself, well before she started that experiment. She had been suffering from deep depression. There has been a great deal of poor reporting about what she did and her reasoning and methods and subsequent ... shall we say, 'life decisions' she made afterward. Anyone who has been a wife or mother or sister has noticed these differences in the way men relate to each other. It's not new. She didn't discover it. When I was a student in the 1980's, we girls start noticing when we're in middle school just how emotionally stunted most of the boys are around us. We had to shut up and grow up. Smile when our skirts were pulled up over our heads in the hall and our bra straps were snapped by the boy sitting behind us and our asses pinched and breasts groped in a crowded hallway. Yes, we had early and often opportunities to be 'resilient'. And not all girls are supportive of one another. Many of us can probably look back and remember we were bullied by a fellow female student and her clique of friends. The truth is, people suck, regardless of gender. Talking to so-called 'therapists' sucks and does more harm than good in many cases. These things are always much more complicated than 'It's a man/woman thing'. The new generations are giving me hope for a better future, though. They do seem more self-aware and kinder to each other. But then... there are men like Andrew Tate that find a following and I just feel sick and hopeless all over again.
