It is also his personality, true grit, what helps us keep going even today. "Feel finished? Try even harder!" It always comes to me when I feel lack of strength during my long run.

Was blessed to spend most all day at his home talking everything from religion politics women track and life itself in summer of 1990. First thing he did when i walked into his home at 10 am was offer me a beer. He gave me a trophy given to him from the Country of Israel! Great man. So gracious, kind and wanting to spend about 8 hrs together. Took pictures of him running----not to far. Dana was nice too but she left us alone. Beautiful spirit. So giving and generous. Praise God for that time together.

Ahoj

What a great talent and a great man. It’s heartbreaking how terribly he was treated by the hardliners of the Czech communist party later on. I’m glad he survived to be able to reflect on it later. He should have been treated like the hero he was. I’m looking forward to the film about him that was supposed to come out this year (2020) but has been delayed either in production or release due to the Covid19 pandemic.

Yes, what a luck he survived the commies. Probably he wouldn´t describe himself a hero and as a person, he definitely wasn´t always perfect. In 50´s the commies party always tried to take advantage out his glory and huge popularity. It was almost impossible not collaborate at all. After the occupation in 1968, he was one of so many popular men, who was to be erased out of official history. Speaking of the new film about Zatopek, if you mean this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpvFi2V7lt-Kr7c it looks like kind of romantic melodrama which is O.K. only if you are not looking for a serious history document. Not everything in it is exactly true. But nice movie instead.

Lovely to have subtitles for the interview footage of this peerless runner and, by all accounts, great man.

Incredible man, but the subtitles need to be slowed down. How quickly do you think that people can read?
@saikidoudesuka
@saikidoudesuka 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, I know it's physically impossible to catch everything at the first try. Emil Zatopek spoke extremely fast which was part of his personality. Therefore, the subtitles have two lines where every new line comes to the bottom while the previous one still remains on top at the same time in order to double the time of appearance. Still, it's too fast but I hope it has brought you joy anyway. Thank you for your feedback.

Emil Zatopek died in 2000 but here you can see him in 1980 in his age of 58 years as he runs on his way between home and workplace through the park "Stromovka" in Prague. It is from document of German journalist who came to visit Zatopek. It is in German language, but I hope you uderstand :-) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYacdXR8p5ecfdk

His form looks so awkward, especially given what a GOAT he was. Today, Sifan Hassan is a bit like that: powerhouses runner but utterly inelegant looking form.

Mě to pomáhá skoro každý den, když už nemůžu a mám chuť si udělat trénink anebo život snažší. On věděl že ta pravá odměna přichází jen s vůlí a poctivostí a jediné vítězství je čestné vítězství. Jinak můžeme dosáhnout jen iluze úspěchu, ale není to vítězství.

@@filipprudentio645 Your stupid historic theoretics would be in 50's publishing the shoes of Klement Gottwald and writing poems about February victory. They are coward - they were even waiting until death of Dana to write "critics". So nobody can oppose them now. Really disgusting. (Same with Karel Gott). And Milada Horáková was real spy, she collaborated with Nazis and when she didn't get any valuable post by Communists she started to work for West. So she was sentenced to death. (by the way Zátopek never wrote anything to support it, ot was made by press) In contrary Zátopek himself had sometimes troubles with the regime (especially after 68). He is a legend and hero and all real Czechs should be proud of him. Who is not proud is idiot influenced by liberal fanatic "historics", who wants to rewrite history.
