It would be immensely helpful if general authorities of the church listened to these stories. It would be far more revelatory than having an angel show up in their rooms. Listening to the human soul teaches so much more and help us understand people’s deepest feelings and needs.

Every current and former member of the Mormon Church has a Mormon story, and they are all the same: The toxic perfectionism promoted by the Mormon church doesn't work and it causes pain and suffering. Mormonism, as a spiritual path, is an abject failure.

Totally agree. While I did not want to raise my son TBM, I would have liked to have him involved to an extent that he could benefit from some of the good parts of organized religion that I think do exist. Because the church is so absolute about everything, we have nothing to do with it or any other church as a result. There is no room to "breathe" and I didn't want my son growing up that way. :(

John. I thought for sure you were going to say "can we start with a word of prayer"!! 20 years OUT and I still imagine phrases I can't get free of!!

Emily and Kyle I loved this podcast. I live in The Woodlands and would love to meet you. I’m the one with faith crisis and John has helped my marriage tremendously as well by allowing a voice and help to couples in similar situations. I hope you see this! I am Robin Edens Cunningham on FB. I hope hear from you.

I pray for emily. it is clear she is still not sure of where she is spiritually in the eyes of god. it's like a massive spiritual earthquake shattered her life (I am sure this has happened many times in mormon marriages). it's hard to leave your COMFORT ZONE (although it is now a bit uncomfortable) and go into the UNKNOWN (ending her marriage and searching for another eternal partner). kyle is very content with where he is in his life. I cannot say the same for emily. I wish her well and will pray for her that she will find the right path forward (as only her and God know the path). I know God will help her. i think in the near term, she will do whatever is best for her children. I am sure god will bless her for that.

It's trippy because I couldn't tell which one of them left the church until 35 minutes into the interview.

I feel especially bad at how Emily's authoritarian father treated her family.

My daughter does not invite me to my grandchildren's blessings or baptisms. Makes me sad even if I can no longer believe. I do remain silent of my true observations so as not to harm any ones faith by what I have learned.

Robert, I just see still so many most wonderful things in the gospel. At one time in the future we will understand so much more.

I once heard a former Jehovah’s Witness Who left after many years who was in top important leader ship positions say A false Prophets worst enemy is printed material. Maybe on the 25th or 30th anniversary they can have a Vow renewal with their family.

Sister emily correction we are not mormon we are the church of jesus christ of latter day saints

I've noticed a lot of folks simply referring it as the church of jesus christ. it's kind of confusing because the truth of the church kind of hinges on the bofm. I wonder why they are distancing themselves from that.

Just incredible that a “mixed faith” couple = 2 mormons, not anyone of actually differing religions. Muslim and Mormon or Hindu and Mormon, for example. Jews would know better ;) PS. Just began watching, so foregoing not a comment on interview.
