Something that really got to me was just... the extent of casual racism in this woman's story. From the insulting Mexican music, to the constant references to "hispanics", to the talk of "hispanic skin colors", to the entire setup (really, Mexican human traffickers?) being stereotypical. I just. Hard to remember that you share a country with people like this, especially because people like her probably don't even recognize how racist they are.

To have someone fake a kidnapping and then put their family through hell deserves whatever punishment the legal system will give her. Anyone else get the vibe she planned to blame the boyfriend for “kidnapping” her? Think about all the things she manipulated him to do… For example, having him ask a friend rent the car under their name. If I planned to kidnap someone, I would rent a car under a different name, right? She also had him buy the brand. That would have recorded evidence of him doing so. So if someone looked at this case and they had his DNA on her clothing and they see he rented a car in a sneaky way, bought the brand tool, boarded up window at his place, etc… he looks so guilty.

"He said he'd let me go if I promised to stick to the story he told me to say. If I didn't, he said my children would be harmed". I mean, plug in a white blonde woman crying and you've got near all the natural biases apparently working in her favor. I'd never understood what weight other women's tears held until I got out of my abusive situation. Of course I'd never have understood it when I'd only witnessed the opposite occur. Once I got out of there and better introduced myself to the world outside those walls, I finally got it. I was used to women being seen as servants that have to give in to sex when the man of the family unit wanted it. If you cried about it, you were told that you weren't being a loyal enough wife and good enough Mormon. (My personal experience does not speak to everyone's within this religion, is what I tell myself so I can sleep at night. Hopefully.) If someone is not understanding the bias it's very likely because that belief goes against the woman's entire life experience up to then, telling her the complete opposite. That her value is lesser and should just be accepted as such because that's what good religious lasses do. She's not used to being taken seriously so she assumes few women, if any, are taken seriously. You can get to her, it just takes knowing what bridge allows the securest passage to truth. If you don't have the patience, that's someone else's task then. Not yours.

I am so glad to see that you have covered this. This happened in my hometown and really moved me to the core. I don’t know why but I could only think that it was because I could relate to it having had been kidnapped from a mall parking lot. After she reappeared she then slithered away to hide in another state all the while allegedly spending the money that people raised to help find her and pay her ransom.

This story makes me ill. I worked for the Crime Victims program in WA state for many years. Funding for these programs seems to be less & less as years go by. I hope she is required to pay every penny back so someone deserving can receive it! 🤯
@lonelyheroine Жыл бұрын
I highly doubt that she'll be able to pay the money back, as nobody is going to hire her after all this. She might get a job flipping burgers, but because she's been in prison, she can't be bonded and that makes it nearly impossible for an ex-con to find employment.

It’s like she took pieces of every police procedural TV show and pieces of cliché advice people give women and created this ridiculous story. For example, we always tell women not to jog alone and to be careful and alert at all times if you must go. But in reality, it is extremely rare for some stranger to randomly grab you on a jog. Other details like the van being opened and her told to get in the back also make it obvious to me she was making it up. Again, just seems like cliché generic advice. “When you’re in a parking garage, don’t park next to a van.” But again, that’s also extremely rare. To have a story that includes both of these things is so farfetched.

I’m so happy you did this case because when I first heard it I really couldn’t come to a decision on whether or not I thought it was a hoax. Because of the injuries and how she stayed quiet and out of the spotlight, for some reason it made me think she really was a victim.

Regarding her first husband and the claims they didn’t live and travel together… I had a close friend and on-and-off romantic interest who was in the Navy. One of the times we had talked to each other regularly, he was deployed in Japan. I said something about how envious I was of him being in Japan because I’ve always wanted to visit that country. No joke, he said we should get married - and we weren’t even together - because he would get more money from the military, and he’d be happy to help me travel to Japan. I laughed and told him no thanks. I think this is a somewhat common thing with military marriages? Anyway. When you quoted that part of the lawsuit, I laughed out loud. We wouldn’t have lived together or traveled together much because we weren’t actually interested in the MARRIAGE aspect of being married, because all he really wanted was more money, except maybe I’d make occasional Japan trips to “visit my husband on base” which really just would have been me taking vacations to explore Japan. LMAO.

People who lie are the worst. Having to deal with someone like that taints all your future relationships and interactions. You're always stuck with a nagging nugget of thought "Is this person lying like so-and-so did?" I had to deal with a lying co-worker once years ago and I find it very difficult still to trust. Sad.

I've been following this chick. The charges that the FBI brings about the GoFundMe and victim assistance money makes me think she convinced the guy she is "married to" I know they are married, hey we can make some make money. Because he was actively looking and genuinely concerned when she was missing and then using other people's money to pay their bills . Not cool. She is a master manipulater. I also feel for these kids. You know mama if I go to the store or something our kids are asking when is mom ,or dad going to be home.

As a therapist who has treated people using VOC funds legitimately, it is not always easy to get those funds- (and as a provider, not always timely reimbursement, but worth it for those that truly can use that funding). It takes some time and dedication, so to do that fraudulently? That's just crazy. $30,000. floors me! On a lighter note, sweet kitty in the background looks so comfy!
