Fabulous ideas for those daunted by large spaces and backgrounds. Thanks for the tip to rub paper bobbles away after too much water.

Oh my gosh what an adorable tester page. What a great video. Backgrounds are my nemesis. The gelatos with the brush I keep meaning to try. I don't know if I could do the pointilism background. You make it look easy but I'm so impatient I would go crazy 😆.
@EmilyIllustrator3 жыл бұрын
Haha, thank you! The gelatos are fun! I've been choosing them over watercolor backgrounds lately.

I'm w ya on the pointilism, I'd go insane bc I'm so impatient..doing flicks for fur does me in..I have to stop go do another area then back to it..I applaud Emily w her patience.

I don't imagine the pointillism is good for the pen tips either 😢
@EmilyIllustrator3 жыл бұрын
@@ann-or6ev Actually, there’s no damage! You just touch the top to the paper. With markers, there’s no need to use very much pressure at all.
@EmilyIllustrator3 жыл бұрын
@@ann-or6ev As an alternative, you can also use gel pens.

Awesome video! I loved the watercolor and the gel crayons! I don’t think I would have the patience for the pointillism, but it is very beautiful!

Thank you so much! And yes, the pointillism would take some patience. Maybe in just small areas! 🙂

Great background options! Do you have to use fixative over the soft pastels?
@EmilyIllustrator3 жыл бұрын
You can if you want! It depends on where you store them or display them.

@@EmilyIllustrator Thanks so much! I’d rather not use the spray. I’d just be using them on coloring book backgrounds.

Do the gelators leave a 'tacky' sort of feel, and can you use pencil over the top of them?
@EmilyIllustrator3 жыл бұрын
No more tacky than regular crayons are. It’s more of a waxy feeling.
@AnimeBlaze-qi4jx3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this! I've been stuck on what to do for backgrounds for ages. I've been using chalk pastels for years, and it's about time I've finally tried new things. I'll keep coming back to this. All of these are so pretty! Especially the gelatos. Earned a new sub from me :) I'm still kind of nervous about trying watercolour tho, idk if watercolours will bleed through Johanna's books.
