Man, what do I say on this one? Yet another example of an incredibly perfect set or bars put to Toddler Talk. Man, this guy is insanely creative!
This is my musical reaction, breakdown and commentary analysis of the song. I intend no copywrite infringement and this is not a replacement for listening to the song. I have paused and also speak over the song. My hope is to bring more interested listeners to download this music from the artist. Your consideration of removing this block is very much appreciated.

@@Connorderechte I don't know man. 'My Name Is' is a bit of a gimmick. Always was. It's a fun little comedic song. From The Slim Shady LP, the best songs (in no particular order) were; Guilty Conscience Rock Bottom As The World Turns Bad Meets Evil Brain Damage My Fault '97 Bonnie and Clyde. And yes, I'm aware that i just mentioned more than half of the album. I was just thinking of songs better than My Name Is and all of them instantly came to mind!

Just because you didn't catch the "2 more things out the trunk" - he killed step dadda and little brother too. You hear about it in Kim where he's telling her how he will frame it as a murder suicide. You're so right about the baby talk; I'd never thought about the context outside of the song (during recording); the fact he was writing such a dark song and included the baby talk with Hallie... his mind was in a dark place for sure.

I was so hoping that you would switch up your schedule to get to this and “Bad Husband” more quickly! Thank you! 😁 And again, props for having the ability to appreciate the art in this. As to the question of if Eminem was singing the “Just the two of us” part, he was. I think that it may have sounded different to you because the melody and the harmony were both on the mid-to-lower end of his range. On most of the tracks where Em sings, he sings the melody higher in his vocal range, and then layers another vocal line a fifth and/or octave lower. (Side note - to hear Proof, check out “When the Music Stops.” His voice was so cool on that track - really dark, menacing, gravelly sounding.) I feel so torn on this song. So, I’m an ICU nurse - that requires having a dark, morbid sense of humor to survive. And I don’t know why, but I’m always up for watching serial killer documentaries. 🤷‍♀️😂 Despite that, I have a really hard time listening to “Kim.” I think because the tone was so serious, and I can’t imagine being her and hearing that song. So, I want to not like this song, because it is the sequel to the one song in Em’s catalogue that I have a hard time stomaching. But, the tone here is so radically different. It is clearly dark comedy, and frankly, the baby talk to Hailie (and Hailie’s cooing) is adorable. 😂

1 thing to remember Eminem wrote this song at a time when Kim's parents wouldn't allow him to see Hailey. So he wrote about his anger over that situation. Eminem has always said it's better to put his anger into a song than to let it build up and explode and become real. I think the 2 things pulled out of the trunk in the end are the stepfather and son.
@Fozzie420

Another Eminem song you'll like and find interesting is "Yellow Brick Road" When Em was 16 him and Kim broke up and he started dating a black girl, she two-timed Em, he recorded a song that got leaked years later that people called racist and misogynistic, targeting black women. Yellow Brick Road is him making a public comment about it an explaining himself through a song. You'll also like "Say Goodbye Hollywood" the song was written about Eminem needing to get out of public view, leave California, go back home after his legal issues from confronting a guy that was with Kim at a Club. The guy claimed he was pistol whipped and Em was charged with serious felonies, he felt the pressure of being a celebrity and needed to escape his life he felt trapped in.

Stan refers to this song when he tells Em 'If I have a daughter, guess what I’ma call her? I’ma name her Bonnie.' Em was much more playful with his story telling back in the early days. His focus as he's matured seems to be on clever word play which is cool if you like trying to catch the meanings behind a lot of his stuff. For me I preferred the silly and more relatable stories that he would tell. Definitely Rock Bottom, If I had and As The World Turns should be on your list. Hahaha. Love that you can laugh along with this 😅💙. Another great video!! There are "golden nuggets" in every single one of his albums. He's always referring back to his other work, whether it be in the songs themselves, tying them together or if the clues are hidden in the music videos lol. You're right about a lot of other rappers. Many aren't story tellers and it's a lot of regurgitating about the same things over and over. Em definitely gives us a variety of personas and content. There's something for everyone. :) Em said back in the early 00s, that he wanted to make sure his music is different, that nothing was the same and that his career would have longevity because of it. And... his plan worked. We never know what's going to come at us next and we're always patiently waiting for the next work of art lol.

Hey Larry. Love your channel. In case you don't already know: - "Bonnie & Clyde" was in "Slim Shady LP" (SSLP) album which came out in 1999. - "Kim" was in "Marshall Mathers LP" (MMLP) album which came out late in 2000. So Kim is a prequel which came out later. - "Stan" also was in MMLP and released as the third single off that album. So Stan imitating Eminem in the song was based on "Bonnie & Clyde" (obviously because Kim wasn't released yet). There are a lot of other references in "Stan" to other Eminem songs which is why I suggest you listen to it once again after you fully listened to SSLP and probably MMLP (just to make sure you don't miss anything).

A few Eminem recommendations: Not sure if the links will work in a comment. Yellow Brick Road, 2004: The song goes more into his rap beginnings. Early friendship with Proof and relationship with Kim. (For context, a part of the song talks about a different girlfriend who had broken up with him and it made him so upset he made a song about her called Foolish Pride.) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5nXaZKFmbOsodU&ab_channel=Eminem-Topic Say Goodbye Hollywood, 2002: One of my favorite Eminem songs. He talks about how his overwhelming success started to ruin his relationships and how he wanted to get away from it all to focus on being a normal person and a better father. (For context, in the first part of the song he is referencing him seeing Kim with another guy (a bouncer) at a club and how he ran up and pistol whipped the guy and was charged for it.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnzZonx8iaiJj9k&ab_channel=Eminem-Topic 25 to Life, 2010: This one is about his controlling and toxic relationship and how he is breaking out of it and becoming independent and standing on his own (This isn't super story heavy but gives good context into his life when he was at the height of his career, this one will require two listens to fully understand) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJjRmGuLrt6UfbM&ab_channel=Eminem-Topic

The original "Just The 2 of Us" is by Tupac called "Me and My Girlfriend" and girlfriend was an metaphor for his gun. Then the Jay Z one. Then Eminem.

I just want to recommend No Apologies by Eminem, I tried to leave a link but it keeps deleting my comment when I do. It's a very meaningful song.

Especially considering it’s a freestyle for the first and second verse But the last verse hits hard

@@normal-potato05 you are right, some if the lyrics he used in this are from a freestyle he did. But obviously it was a written freestyle, not an off the dome one like he did with Paul giving him random words.

@@Ge0rge_0rwell I guess you’re right, I actually saw the one with Paul giving Em words to freestyle with very recently

I'm so glad you got it. I was worried you wouldn't like the dark humour. The kid gloves will start to come off now with recommendations. Although I think there are only 2 songs that get darker than these. (or just as dark but in a different way) Insane and Stay Wide Awake. I would still recommend staying away from FACK... for now.

97 Bonnie and Clyde actually came out before Kim and Kim is the Prequel :) Btw the person singing "just the two of us" is still Em lol Also the two other things in the trunk are the "step dada" and "new brother" which he describes killing in Kim

Awesome back to back reactions, and yes that is hailey on the cover of the album. I love the slim shady era, but if if you want to hear another more serious sentimental Eminem song then listen to “You’re never over” By Eminem.. it is basically a love letter to Proof after he died

talking at the end there about the "papa bear" oh you're so right! maybe somewhere along the line you'll want to check out some diss songs he wrote to rappers who mentioned Hailie, that would be interesting:)) if you got through Kim, you can get through everything! just let us know and we'll be more than happy to point you to some of them.

As i said before, he wrote this way before ‘Kim’. ‘Kim’ was written years later as a prequel to this. It shows his genius that he wrote ‘Kim’ to work around this as a sequel x

They got married again after all of this and he still says he will do anything for Kim, because she gave him, his daughter. I think this is a brilliant way of an artist taking out frustrations with their craft ❤️
