It’s one of those albums where IMO for most people who are not a Stan or a hater it would be about a 7 or a 6, and that seems to be Anthony’s opinion too if you listen to what he’s actually saying. Tom Williams Sure he likes an Eminem song here and there, but I feel like an album with skippable songs could easily be a 6 or 7 out of 10, especially considering the way he speaks about it here. The fact that it’s an improvement on Revival and Kamikaze for him isn’t really saying much, he really seemed to hate those albums. Giving Kamikaze a 4 and this a 5 doesn’t really reflect the improvement he actually describes in the review. The flaws that Revival and Kamikaze have don’t really dominate this album, they just turn up often enough to not give it an 8 or a 9 or anything. And you can’t deny that Anthony prefers the narrative that Eminem fell off this decade. After giving MMLP2 a really positive review he never really mentions it and just states that all Eminem’s projects since his “first three” haven’t been good. He’ll give some songs as well as this album a relatively positive review too but in the end just end up saying “nah not good enough” by giving it a 5, even though he clearly doesn’t think it’s a bad album. (And yes, I consider a 5/10, or 2.5/5 stars to be a bad album)

When I first heard this album, I initially thought it was decent, but I found it to be lacking substance in a few areas. Then, it grew on me overtime and I listened to it a few more times and now I like it a lot more. I initially thought it was too much of a retread of Kamikaze, but when I took that notion out, it became a better album with time for me. Not every track is a winner, I did find tracks like Those Kinda Nights and Never Love Again to be kind of...blah, and I like the hook to Leaving Heaven, but most of the song was pretty underwhelming. However, I liked most of the stuff on there, even if the horror theme was inconsistent. I can understand why that may be a problem for some people, but I see this more as an Eminem album than a Slim Shady one, and I liked the various topics that were used in the songs. Some of my favorite tracks include Stepdad, Godzilla, Little Engine, Marsh, and Lock It Up, which has one of the greatest features Em has ever had in his songs in Anderson .Paak, whom I have recently become a fan of in recent memory. It is dumb in some places, but I find most of this album to be pretty strong overall, and even when it gets dumb, it never gets Encore levels of dumb for me (although songs like Rain Main and Ass Like That are a guilty pleasure for me). I give this one an 8/10.

Em has checked off on every category on this album although he can even with just one song, he didn’t miss. Sonically, lyrically, poetically, transparency, flow, cadence , hooks, beats , creativity ,personality, simplicity and complexity, adaptability, relevance, imagination, artistically, catchy, witty, consistency, entertaining, humor, etc. I can go on and on. I have been listening to the B side of this album, and I must say that I am impressed. Even though I haven't liked any of Eminem's albums since TES, and I certainly didn't like this one for artistic content, although I did like it for Eminem's amazing MC skills of crafting and spitting bars, I am almost changing my mind after listening now to 5 tracks of his B side. This is *significantly* superior to the MTBMB released in January. In content, it is slightly better than the original version. Not the Mathers LP for content, but definitely better than the OG version. But where this B side shines are the beats, the production and Eminem's flows. This is so sonically interesting and weird, with trambones, saxophone trumpets, E minor piano samplings. And Eminem's flows are so cadenced, flowing from pocket to pocket to the beat deliciously. Some times fast, some times slow, but also flowing masterfully with the pockets of the beat. I am actually impressed by this. Nice job, Eminem!
