The song the stoped the Censorship war dead on the spot.The Slim-Shady LP in '99 was big. The Marshal Mathers LP in '00 was huge but when "The Eminem Show" dropped in '02 it shook the world like a snow globe. The Government was trying to stop hip-hop from taking hold and getting real industry level power. They did it by censorship and it had been going on for almost a decade. The media was backing the Gov to by broadcasting daily segments telling parents that hip-hop would turn your kids into criminals and gang members. Eminem released "The Eminem Show" and "sing for the moment" became sensational across all cultural and racial lines and THAT changed hip-hop forever because almost EVERYONE could relate to the things he said in the song. So hip-hop gained 100's of millions of white fans when it had been a black only genre before. So the media and the Gov could no longer bash rap because more and more people were sympathizing more with hip-hop than them. Hip-hop became the underdog story of "rags to riches" and the Government became the "big bad bully" in the public's eye all because if 1 album.
