Fun fact: That last solo was Aerosmith's own Joe Perry making them sick guitar melodies for the song as it was not part of the original song "Dream On". Always was a privilege to hear that to the very last note. Legendary song!!

My parents would not let me listen to Em when I was younger. Of course I did anyway and I'm glad my parents felt the way they felt because it made me want to listen to the songs more carefully to figure out what exactly was so bad about it. That is when I learned how to listen critically and that music was more than just beats and dancing.

I just made sure I was listening music with him (at least in the beginning) to explain him the meaning and also to teach him the difference between music and real life. He grow up to become great young man and we regularly exchange new music we find.

Em's music affected "the rich kids" so to speak in many ways. Often times living in a house vs a trailer doesn't mean you are rich but the kids like Eminem would likely think so because he lived in a trailer. A house looks like a huge amount of space in comparison. But the kids in a home can still be getting abused behind closed doors and whatnot. The difference is usually the kids that look better off aren't but the stuff that happens doesn't happen in the open with witnesses. So it affected those kids in the sense that they too can relate to many of the things he mentioned it may just not be the exact scenario. Parents knew Eminem was a rapper and they felt like rap was "the Devil's music" so they didn't want their kids to listen to him but ultimately their concern for their kids is part of the problem with their kids to begin with. He didn't pistol whip the guy, he hit him with his fist and the dude claimed he used a gun so he got charged for armed battery.

Unraveling Eminem is a lifetime mission by now. His catalogue is huge by now and every single song is loaded with cultural references that may only have been relevant the same week he released the single/album. But you're already googling the question marks, so that's a good start in understanding where he comes from even with the most insane things he's said over the years. Most, if not all, of the stuff that would get him "cancelled" today was/is said using the Slim Shady character. You can't take that seriously and the joke is how messed up the things he says is. Im glad to see two people that find a childhood like that surprising. Thats why I made it a priority to break the cycle with my kids. The stuff in this song is extremely normal and light compared to what me and a ton of my friends dealt with. Like this didn't even scratch the surface of what he went through at all, or so many of us. I want to be horrified by it. That's the goal for my kids. It shouldn't happen to any of us. I lived thru everything you guys are speaking on with and thru Em. And at first He taught me how powerful freedom of speech could be and that I didn't have to settle EVERY ARGUMENT OR DISAGREEMENT WITH MY HANDS. I boxed my whole life and grew up in a small town in Boston with more project housing developments then any other town city or state. 4 diff projects within a 4 mile distance. So fighting was how we solved shit and how we earned respect. And weapons were yo risky because of the Irish Mafia that Ran Boston in the 90s. So when em came along I could usually talk my way out of a fight between us and another project because I had respect and already caught these guys many times b4 em but once you get out of a fight while not bitching out but by talking to there big dog we USUALLY WOULD GO FIGHT ONE ON ONE IF WE COULDNT REACH AM AGREEMENT AND SO A FULL ON WAR DIDN'T START. SO YOUD FIGHT WITH ALL BODY SHOTS CUZ IF UR BOYS SEEN A MARK ON UR FACE ITS LIKE HAVE GUNS DRAWN AND 1 ASSHOLE SHOOTS ON ACCIDENT AND NOW THERE A BLOOD BATH. SO EM KINDA TAMED ME BUT WHILE DOING SO ALSO TURNED MY MOUTH INTO A FUCKIN SHIT SPITTER. LOL BY THEN I MOVED OUT OF THE PROJECTS AND STARTED USING OXYCONTIN AND EM SAVED MY LIFE.
