Turkish Airlines wants to look at the success enjoyed by Emirates and other Middle Eastern carriers and somewhat replicate this. As part of these plans, the airline wants to fly over 800 aircraft by 2033 alongside a massive expansion of its route network and employees. Will the airline be able to achieve all this and more in the timeline it has provided?

Turkish already flies to more destinations than any other airline in the world. I expect them to meet their ambitious goals.

recently flew with Turkish and was really impressed with the product. Although there is a little way to go from a friendliness aspect from the crew, everything else was top notch.

Turkish Airlines is simply amazing! I always had superb experiences with them, from the food to the cabins and more. For half price than emirates.

I'm happy you've included Turkish as a potential player in the future. I cannot understand some of your colleagues who low ball Turkish's ambition. I look forward to going via Istanbul to try their service!

Hub is dead with A350-900LR and A350-1000. Point to point is very much the future for most airlines. Emirates needs Hub because there's no other real reason to visit Dubai.

I bet Turkish may get A220, A321XLR, A320neo, MAX 7/10/More 8 and 9, A330neo, B777X, B787-10 and maybe A350ULR

I’ve had only positive experiences with Turkish Airlines. They get dinged for not having the most lavish business class configuration, but all very comfortable with a ton of personal space and leg room. The food is second to none, and the service on board has always been friendly. I know there are plans for seating upgrades over the next year.

Turkish have noticed what Emirates secret of success is - it is the old real estate slogan that value is all about "location, location, location". Even more so than Emirates their hub is at the join of three continents (four, if you count the Indian subcontinent) - it is the ideal location for a long range hub-and-spoke model. In fact it is about the only place in the world where that works better on a large scale than point-to-point.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Istanbul's location means a direct flight to Sydney is 8,082 nautical miles in a straight line (probably more like 8,350 nautical miles flying on approved air routes), and that is close to range limit of the Airbus A350-1000. That would mean significant pax-cargo restrictions for such a long flight. By contrast, Dubai's location means the distance to Sydney by a straight line is 6,500 nautical miles, well within the range of the 777-300ER and A380-800, the two most common planes flown by Emirates.

Nothing against the airline, the country or the people but I am just not sure of the stability of Turkey as it does have a lot of political issues. It is often only one election away from a dangerous regime. If they can moderate that then I see no reason why their national carrier wouldn't be a global player of significance.

Not sure where their target markets are. They have a lot of work to do to catch up with the other Middle Eastern Airlines.

@@kkrsnn5632 Air India don't need single hub rather 3-4 hubs as mentioned by Air India CEO, like New Noida, Navi Mumbai and many upcoming airports, also Indigo just ordered 30 A350-900 which is worrying signs for Emirates, Qatar, Singapore, Etihad and Turkish. Also 60-70% of Indians will prefer Air India and Indigo rather than other carriers mostly due to food and direct flight

Turkish Airlines has problems with management and workers, moreover, in extreme situations it will not be than responsible as Emirates. This also reflects through the destinations it flies to.

Comparing 2 companies isnt logic. Their mission and vission is totally different. Turkish’s strategy is connecting the world with long range one deck planes like A359 , B789 or B778, doesnt have premium economy and first class seats. Doesnr really want to fly direct to australia coz cant compete with emirates or chinese eastern- even qatar flies empty generally. Turkish dont have customer type to full up 747 or 380. Other gulf countries strategy is serve luxury. But in the end its fact that turkish or other gulf countries airlines they all awsome. I flight with most of famous airlines, delta TAP china …. seriously not good.

My personal opinion of TK is this; the airline has believed for many years that their main competition was from Europe; such as the likes of KLM, Air France, Lufthansa, BA etc especially for long haul Europe Asia routes. That meant that whatever KPIs the executives at TK set were only geared towards outperforming those aforementioned carriers. In many ways, they have done so and surpassed that standard already. They’re pretty much the only airline to serve premium Do&Co catering in economy, fit personal IFE screens on nearly all their planes from the small A320 to the B777 and offer generous baggage allowance to their customers. Things which we don’t see on most Euro full fare carriers these days. However, if we are talking about competing with the ME3, that’s something which I don’t see happening anytime soon, if at all. The problem is this; for TK to upgrade its fleet to even match EK/QR standards, this will likely require hundreds of millions of dollars investment, which may be difficult for the airline to finance at current time. Then, you’ve got all the issues outside of the control of TK; such as the economic and political stability of Turkey itself. You know why EK enjoys so much success? Because they are not just selling their own brand, but the city of Dubai as well, which is known to be extremely safe, modern and convenient, making it ideal for stopover. Istanbul is a far cry from what Dubai is; their infrastructure is passable at best and with the value of the Lira devaluating fast, prices are getting out of control and corruption is rife. A political coup could happen at anytime like what happened in 2016. Also consider that at the moment, Erdogan is having a hard go at Israel and threatening to attack Cyprus. That alone will force many to reconsider flying Turkish with a stopover in Istanbul.

Theres a question of $$$. Do Turkish have the financial backing of Emirates? Remains to be seen, especially if they aspire to be as large & as global as Emirates

Emirates is owned by emirate of Dubai which is not rich. Actually most aircraft of Emirates are acquired via leasing. I think you are confusing Emirates with Etihad owned by Abu Dhabi or Qatar which are oil and natural gas rich.

Emirates business model is VERY difficult for Turkish. The demographics are very different. They're mostly a cattle carrier, while Emirates get their profits from the A380s very expensive seats. They can grow a lot mainly from their geographical position and huge destinations variety, but if it's viable or profitable that's another question,

In reality, Emirate’s success is narrowed down to the money they get from the government. There the government is filled with oil money. People don’t acknowledge how hard it is for many airlines to fund competing with Emirates.
