Several cartoons by Gary Larson are featured in this video. Larson was well-known for one/two panel cartoons that often involved wordplay or double entendre. He is actually quite funny (my favorites have always been the ones featuring animals), and has quite a large fandom among scientists; a few different species have been named either for him or in reference to his work. It's pretty cool. 45:45 Munch's "The Scream" is reacting to the eruption of Krakatoa. I learned about it in an art history class I took in my first year of college. I don't know if Munch witnessed the event himself or painted this after reading (distant) witness accounts.

Dearest Robin, Regarding the engineers in a car joke: 1) Getting out the car and back in again is totally a thing now with modern cars, especially Teslas. 2) The impurities in the gasoline is totally a thing. The petrol station at my local supermarket recently had an issue with contaminated E5. Lots of cars broke down and had to have their petrol tanks drained by roadside assistance. Some needed new injectors/engine work. 3) when I heard that joke for the first time about 20 years ago, the IT engineer said to close all the Windows and open them again

Now knowing about the diary entry since I looked this information up again to make this comment, the figure's expression makes a lot more sense, but after seeing how fires in Canada made New York look like the set of a dystopian story, and there was even the time in the USA in 1950 where smoke from wildfires (also from Canada lol) covered much of the northeastern US and blotted out the sun (and people thought it was the end of the world)... The expression still would make sense. You'd probably react the same way if you thought it was the beginning of the end, too.

As someone with mechanical experience who often diagnosis his friend's car issues, I have to say that "it won't start" it's always maddeningly vague. If the car cranks but will not start, only the chemical engineer might be correct. If the car will not even crank, the chemical engineer can't possibly be correct. Unless the impurities in the gas are somehow responsible for the complete loss of the electrical system which doesn't seem very likely.
