For those here who don’t understand why others are complaining: the movie cut quite a bit of Emma and Alyssa’s dialogue in scenes, even verses from their songs were removed. And yes, the movie is about Emma and the Broadway actors but the movie added things to the film they added subplots for Deedee and Barry, they didn’t add more for characters like Emma, Alyssa or the other actors. Just Deedee and Barry. It feels like the filmmakers just wanted to show off that they got Meryl Streep and James Cordon to be in their movie when instead they could’ve given more focus on the lesbian couple (you know, the couple the movie was centered around).

@razmataz13drums3 жыл бұрын
okay, so this is based on just seeing this video and not the movie, I kinda dislike that no time is given to Alyssa. Its about Emma, and when Alyssa brings up her mum, Emma's just like well only we matter. Good for you Emma for being ready to come out, and its good to encourage someone to take that leap too cause she can provide the strength needed. But when someone has legitimate concerns their mum might react badly... I dont think that should be swept aside. Living your authentic self is truly the best thing to do, but you have to acknowledge that for some people this comes at the expense of family. Why is this always undervalued? Especially when you're a teenager still, the consequences could be living on the streets. This is why you need longer storylines, because if these are their entire scenes then... they're barely given the time to exist as a couple. In real life you would hope that Emma would be more supportive, and they would actually go through these emotions together. But this happens in every movie, can we not have one where emotional breakthroughs happen with the other? To me the emotional weight comes from them being a lesbian couple in an underrepresented world. Do we care about them because we get to know them as a couple, no.

In fact, maybe separating them was the point because it made their union at the end feel like more of a victory.
