In Georgian etiquette, if a man and a woman danced together without gloves, they were either engaged or married. I don't know if it was meant to happen but I think it's a nice hint at what is to come

i read that they wanted her to dance without gloves and were asking the etiquette lady if this would be possible. she said that just right after eating she would have taken them of and not put on again (bc forgotten)

You did such an excellent job. I just loved your amused clip and watched this next. I watched the movie three times in 48 hours (all my rental was for) and the only reason I'm not watching it again is because I'm worried I'll make myself sick of it. But how can a movie be so perfect? I've only seen two other adaptations of Emma, haven't read the book, so I understand the Jane Fairfax subplot (which I wanted more of) is lacking in this adaptation, but otherwise, it was so well done. And Johnny and Anya were so good, as was the whole cast. ADW has made a masterpiece in my opinion. Can't wait to read the book now.

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed both my videos! 💗 You know, when I first saw the trailer I had some doubts and I wasn't sure I would like this adaptation, but in the end I found it so enjoyable I've ended up watching it something like 6/7 times already and I never seem to get tired of it! Personally, I think the only big flaw of this adaptation is that towards the end of the second half of the film, the story starts to lack the necessary time and events from the book needed so that the story can breathe and be told better. As you said, I think the point of the story that suffers the most is the whole Jane Fairfax/Frank Churchill affair and I was also thinking of the time Knightley spends away from Emma at his brother's in order to forget about her (and failing). For people who haven't read the book or never seen any of the other adaptations, the lack of material probably didn't make much of a difference but for people who know, the flaws in (not) telling that part of the story properly shows. That said, I must say that personally, despite the not perfect adaptation as far as the final stages of the story go, I still find the film absolutely enjoyable and well done.

As I've said to someone else in the comments under the Knightley video, I tend to be flexible when it comes to adaptations, I'm okay with some omissions and changes as long as they do justice enough to the story, the characters and the author's work and tone, and personally I think this does a very good job. Not the best - the best adaptation is Emma 2009 in terms of the story since they did have 2 more hours at their disposal to do it properly - but nonetheless, I feel like I can partly forgive the storytelling flaws in the second part of the film because I really enjoyed pretty much all the rest which, in the end, didn't make me regret the lack of those missing parts all that much. In short, could they have done better story-wise? Absolutely. Did that ruin the film for me? Absolutely not.

As an Austen fan who is not as inflexible as some when it comes to adaptations, I can tell you that as far as adapting the story goes it has its flaws, especially towards the end but if you haven't read the book you don't even notice; as for the rest, I loved pretty much everything about it!

I may have to read the book multiple times or double take on some paragraphs to fully understand everything because English is not my first language. hehe

I feel like this adaptation has a more modern way of telling the story, particularly when it comes to the friendship between Harriet and Emma, and honestly I didn't dislike it, as you said, it was nice to see Emma being a good friend to Harriet in the end and making amends for her behaviour.

Thank you so much! This adaptation is not the most faithful as far as the story adaptation goes and compared to the others done in the past they kept it more on a fun and quirky side. A few people found it a bit too much but I thought it was a different take that on the whole fit with the tone of the story and Emma's character; I had my doubts before watching it, but it actually surprised me very positively, I kinda found it refreshing. But I must admit that I rarely dislike an adaptation because I tend to be quite flexible.
