Good to hear that it's ok to let baby cry a bit to get used to the separation. We're currently going through it with our 13 months old in the evening at bed time. We try to let him go to sleep by himself, sticking to our routine, and check on him after a few minutes to reassure him. He eventually falls asleep within 30min. But it's so hard to hear baby cry and to resist taking him in our arms straight away 😢😊

My baby would sleep around 6-8pm, wake up and cry around 10-11pm, wake up again around 1-2am, and then wake up again around 4am, i feed her every time she would cry, then shes totally awake around 5 to 6am 🥺 it happened around 6 mos , he's 7 mos now. Before she would wake only once or twice, and she dont cry. She sleeps beside me. We dont do sleep training here in our country.

My baby stopped napping and started cat napping for like 10-20 minutes at 6 weeks and she is now 12 weeks and we aren’t doing much better. It’s hard because she is so tired and I don’t know what I am doing wrong… We have a little routine, close curtains, turn on white noise and swaddle. I worry that I’ve now made her dependent on me for sleep too as we use a lot of sleep props…

I found something very soothing for my baby boy (today 5 months old) instead of breastfeeding to sleep I give him now his pacifier, lay him on my lap while I'm sitting crossed legged on the bed, one arm under his head and back, the other hand holds his hand and the arm rests lightly on his legs so he can't move and kick his legs so easily. I myself curl bit up like a tent above him, playing blanket so to say for additional pressure on the tummy (not strongly of course!) and meanwhile I rock back and forth. Maybe sushing as well. It seems to work ^^' better than always offering the already very sore boob. However, disadvantage I could see this night was, he has his pacifier in his mouth and it stays in his mouth. If he wakes up and cries or complains, he still has it inside! He used to drop it out and being 90% of the whole day without pacifier. Therefore got all spoiled with nursing... however... I call that new method the curly ball technique 🤷🏻♀️ please no hate comments, I'm already glad that something helps make him fall asleep

i think from what ive read and seen you transition slowly. like you only offer water no breast. and then eventually they will atop waking bc they realize theyre only being offered water and so they decide it’s not worth it and eventually just start sleeping through. provided the pediatrician said they dont need the breastmilk through the night.

Hi again Emma! Thanks for another informative video. My Little Man is about 4 months old, so I am expecting sleep regression, but his sleep has mostly been off since transitioning him out of his swaddle and into a sleeping bag. He is now waking at least 3-4 times in the night, whereas he might only have woken up once before. I know he can't be swaddled forever, and that it can be dangerous when he starts to roll. As he outgrew his last ones I figured now is as good a time as any to get him used to sleeping bags, but his arms being free does seem to disturb him more. The waking up tends to happen more in the early mornings, after the initial, big chunk of sleep. Do you have any advice?
@ggwo54922 жыл бұрын
There are transitional sleep sacks that confine the arms to limit mobility, but not so much that they can’t help themselves if they roll over. That said, I am reusing the halo swaddlers that i had for my daughter with my sons now who are 3 1/2 months. What i have been doing is a half-swaddle where one arm is completely free but the other is still compressed against them. This seems to be helping them as their sleep hasn’t changed but they still have some mobility and access to a hand for self soothing.
@LyllianRose2 жыл бұрын
I recommend baby Merlin’s magical sleepsuit. It helped my little one transition from swaddle into sleep sack.
@EmmaHubbard2 жыл бұрын
Hi @Tom Kins unfortunately when you transition a little one from a swaddle to a sleep sack their sleep can become a little disrupted. But it should improve once they get use to having both arms out. I do wonder if the change in your little one's sleep is the 4 month sleep regression (which is really a sleep progression)? In this video I discuss what this regression is, as well as, some tips to get through it quickly. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4DVqJWOipt5js0. Hope this helps!

Try a baby nest it worked wonders with our son at that age, and a very strong back to stand an hour or 2 next to his crib in his Own room. We avoided taking him out of bed but watching me stand there next to him not even talking sometimes and very little eye contact for my sake and his lol but where we touched hands sometimes cause that was enough to make him feel at ease and content. A Golden tip also is when your Child needs you and you as a Parents knows if something is UP make sure you are there unconditionly thats how you build trust between you and your Child and a forever strong bond. Never met him cry himselfnto sleep. You Will learn which cry means what. My toddler has very little sleepissues aside from that difficult age changes even when he was younger at the age of 3months in his own room cool temperature 16degrees, as dark as the night and quiet Like Emma Said. But you have to be consistent with his sleeproutine. Pardon my English Im from Belgium ♥️

At one point I am sure they will. 😊 But I also think if they don't go to sleep alone they just need it and what you can do is to accept it, if in reality you are fine with it (apart from society's pressure) and if not, little steps to change it. For myself I feel much better respecting her needs. We both are more relaxed like this. ☺️

Hi Emma, thank you for all the helpful information for a 'fresh' dad like me. It's really eye opening! (-; I have a question: As you explain in this video, our daughter (7 months) has had a lot of sleep disruptions during the night. For her, it's between 23h and 02h most of the time. She's just picked up crawling and started to pull herself up on all sorts of stuff, so at this moment in time she's learning a new skill. But the sleep disruptions have gone on for the better part of 2 or 3 months now. Some of my older collegue's at work have suggested that if she wakes up, I'm to just wait it out. For a full night. And not go in her room and help her get to sleep, not even after 5 minutes as you advise here. My collegue's argue that after one night our baby would hardly ever again experience sleep disruptions. A couple of other collegue's, also with older children, all agreed. Is there any truth to this, or just another myth? I'm not really aching to try this method because it would probably break my heart to not go and soothe my little girl whenever she's crying. D: If anyone could shed some light on this matter it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
@SMDB79 ай бұрын
Hello! From what I have seen, this is a myth which was very much the norm for a certain period of time. Look into the brain science behind "cry it out", which is what your colleague is describing. Babies don't become better sleepers but instead learn not to cry for you.

Hi @Ayesha Akram the answer to this question really depends on the age of your little one? Because you said he is a toddler I am assuming he is older than 12 months. If he is having two naps a day but the afternoon nap is pushing the bedtime back he may be ready to drop the afternoon nap and just have 1 nap a day (the average age a bub drops to one nap is around 15 months of age). If your little one is not yet ready to drop a nap; - you can try and move the nap earlier in the afternoon, - or you can wake your little one to make sure he is awake for 4 - 5 hours before they need to go to bed. - Or can just move their bedtime back a bit so that they are tired when they go to bed (If you put them to bed too early and they are not tired then bedtime is going to be difficult).

My baby is 7 months old and doesn’t sleep on it’s on or on his bed yet. We have tried a lot but he seems to get up soon n start crying screaming bad. He cannot on his own yet, I need to make him sleep n then put on his bed. Any possible solution to it please or a video you recommend.

Hi Emma, I’m so glad I found your KZbin channel, it has been so helpful being a first time mom! This video couldn’t have come at a better time. I have a question-my baby is going to be 12months in a week and was sleeping through the night. He had gotten a fever last weekend and has since recovered. However he has started to wake up once during the night. I went back to my sleep training steps, but he is waking and demanding a feed. The wake up is 5-6am, not sure how to manage that since his usual wake up is between 7-8am.

Give baby a pacifier

Hi Emma, thanks for the video. When do babies set sleep associations? Our baby is only 3 weeks old, but watching this video makes me concerned that our soothing techniques like swaying and carrying him, or letting him sleep in a wrap while we get things done, may make it harder in the future. He’s already been quite fussy at times if we don’t hold him. We do try to put him down on his bed after he falls asleep.

Babies in the first three months are literally still getting used to being out of the womb and in the world. It's completely natural to need to imitate womb-like settings to soothe your baby because that is what they need to feel safe and secure. Newborns needing assistance to sleep is normal!! As they get older, transitions can be made. I think of it like learning to ride a bike - you start with lots of encouragement, support and training wheels and progress in stages according to your baby's readiness :)

In the first part you talk about teething or a sleep association - our daughter is doing exactly what you tell about a wrong sleep association : how can we fix it? Thank you again for your help! It's the second half of night - naps of an hour

Me too. My area around the nipple is all sore and crusty because I can not make my boy fall asleep that easy anyhow anymore. He used to fall asleep on his own and now it's problematic since he was 3 months. (Now 5 months) the time right before his night sleep is the worst. Nothing that I do seems to work anyhow x.x

Hi Emma, thanks for your videos, as a first time mom they've been a huge help. My baby sleeps well through the night, she's 1 month and 3 weeks old so she only wakes up when she's hungry and then she goes back to sleep immediately, what I'm struggling with is with her naps, starting a week ago she's been waking up every 10 to 15 minutes, and 50% of the time she wakes up crying, the first thing I do is to check for colic but most of the time that's not the problem and the only thing that seems to soothe her is breastfeeding her, even if it's only for 5 minutes. Is there something I can do to improve her nap time?

Omg I'm having this exact same problem! Sleeps great at night but nap times have been a struggle. She's two months.

@@rachellenicole309 same. I just put her in a carrier because otherwise she gets so cranky when she's overtired

Hello! Thank you for all the informative videos they are a huge help. Can you please post a video with some types of foods (solids) that is the best to start feeding a baby. I have a six month old baby and just started introducing solids but have been having problems with constipation. Can you please make a video with foods that are safe to give to a baby and with foods that cause constipation?
@molliegiselle12358 ай бұрын
When you realize your baby has constipation give them food that contains more water like watermelon or a watery porridge. That will help

My baby is scratching his head and ears so often
@EmmaHubbard2 жыл бұрын
Poor thing. Hope he isn't hurting himself. If your little one is a newborn they often accidentally scratch their head because their arm movements are not very controlled. After 3 months of age they can control their arms better and the scratching reduces. But if your little one is older and you're worried he is sick then it might be worth popping in to the doctors.

@@southlord are you able to put your L.o down without having your boob near by 😂 ? As funny as that sounds I cannot. When I lay her down after she’s asleep in my arms I almost immediately after putting her down have to give her my breast to stay asleep 🥹

So frustrated with this. 😢 I love your other videos but I am so against all this sleep training rubbish. Babies learn to self settle in their own time, it is not a bad thing to help your child fall asleep and they all eventually sleep through alone. Follow your baby’s cues and respond to them every time. Waking up overnight isn’t a “sleep problem” that needs to be “solved”, it’s just the way small babies’ brains work
@kimbalina2105 Жыл бұрын
So my baby is almost a year old and still wakes 4-5 times a night . Still think they will Learn to settle in their own time ?? I’m beginning to think otherwise .
