My baby is 7 months old. He rolls both ways, has good head control, grabs toys, passes them from hand to hand, brings everything to his mouth, says dada, no head lag, grabs his feet when laying on his back. Sits well for 5-10 mins but when he chooses to fall out of sitting he doesn't extend his arms to catch himself. He will just slow-mo into a side tummy roll and get into tummy time position. He enjoys tummy time, tho he doesn't roll often. He is a very content and easy going baby, he will play with his favorite toys in one position just happy as can be. It is actually a challenge to encourage him to roll, but when he wants to, he can go across a room without any struggle. BUT he is not bearing weight on his arms yet. In tummy time he keeps his head up and will have his elbows on the ground but he hardly ever pushes up thru his elbows. He is bringing his knees up and even getting into a bit of downward dog position like to crawl but without arms. So he is like trying to slide across the floor on his chest. He keeps his arms tight at his body often when sitting, unless he is actively reaching for a toy. like he feels like he will fall over if he relaxes them maybe? When I prompt him into positions to practice weight bearing on his arms like placing him over my legs he also keeps his arms contracted and doesn't want to put his hands down on the floor to bear weight. Is this something to be concerned about? He was an 11lb baby and is in the %100 for length and like %96 for head size, so he is also a big boy.

My baby does it all but she is not yet started to crawl. She recognises faces, voices, loves to talk, understand smells and tastes. She rolls to both sides and back to tummy also. She can also sit without support for some minutes but when we try to encourage her to crawl to a toy, she doesn’t. If we bring it closer then she will open her arms and try to grab it. But if it’s not in her reach then she doesn’t try to go to that toy. She will keep looking at the toy, try to talk and look curious but she’s not trying to get to that toy by crawling. Is it a red flag. She’s turned 6 months 2 days ago. Pls suggest

Movements shouldn't be stiff, look like they are "locked" in place. They should start to recognize that they have a lower body. When they stand you can usually tell by whether or not they try and bounce up and down or if they seem to not realize they have a lower body yet. When that happens they will use their upper body muscles to help keep them up, instead of starting to use their core and legs. Their upper body will also lean forward and not align at all with their hips. Simply put, 6 month old babies should start to move using their entire body and not be stiff or ridged. Reaching for toes, toys, without tense muscle movements.

Personal experience: If you notice a lack of babbling with or without vowels, the notes you need for a pediatrician are whether your baby is responding to sound, what sounds they do make if any, if your baby pays attention and watches you while speaking, and most importantly apparently, if your baby can respond to basic and/or complex verbal commands without relying on your hand movements like pointing. (ex.: if you say come here, they'll come over. If toys have certain names, asking them to give you the bunny without pointing at it and they can do so, etc.). In my case, I rarely babbled, but began speaking suddenly at the age of 2 in full sentences and having full conversations. Can't say it's typical, but the very rare times when they heard me make sounds, it was when no people were around in the middle of the night(thank god for baby monitors?), and I responded very well to basic verbal commands and closer to 12 months-1.5 years of age I was responding well to complex(for a toddler) verbal commands and questions. The pediatrician decided I was under observation, but based on other factors, worrying about the talking/babbling milestone was just under observation, until they couldn't get me to shut up.

No it's completely fine They have up until 7 months till they start to babble And some doctors wait until 9 months if your baby response to you in other ways like a smile Usually babies focus on a milestone and might endup neglecting another If your baby smiles in response to you If your baby uses the vowel sounds ahhh haaa If your baby makes noises with his mouth Then its completely fine Each baby develops on his own base Also teething sometimes delays other milestones Just wait and your baby will start talking nonstop

My baby still hates tummy time at 4.5 months old. I know he can push himself up all the way on his arms, and hold his head up in a tummy position, and sometimes he will do this for a decent amount of time if you get him in the right mood. He will occasionally hold himself up on his elbows, but it’s usually an arms forward position. He has begun reaching for things in front of him recently. BUT most Often he moves his arms out to the sides or to the back/ some other unsupportive position and just burries his face and gets angry until you roll him over (sometimes he rolls/ flips himself). He can roll himself side to side, sometimes from tummy to back, but not back to tummy. Any advice? Or just keep trying? I am afraid he’s going to skip crawling if he doesn’t become comfortable with tummy time.

He is five months as of yesterday. The day before he hit 5 months he decided he would roll from back to tummy. About two days before that he became less enraged about being on his tummy, almost like he were getting ready to make peace with it haha. Now he just gets made because he hasn’t figured out how to crawl, but he’s putting a lot of effort into trying! I guess patience is all I have to offer. Oh and I started putting him for tummy time in front of a window that is open. Best tummy time hack for me. He could actually spend 10 minutes or so like that at a time.

Actually, according to CDC, proper babbling like “bababa”, “dadada” is a 9 month milestone nowadays, but babies should be able to conect some consonants with vocals at 6 months. My baby doesn’t do proper babbling or clear vocals, but occasionally I hear a : “ba”, “ma”, “am”, “bue”, “de”. One of the milestones at 6 months is that they take turns making sounds with you…which my baby doesn’t and I find concerning…he is often irritable for no aparent reason (actually, mostly he wants to be held up) and is not as social..more serious baby. Could it be temperament instead?

My son was born 7 weeks early and I never know if he is behind on things due to his age or if he is actually behind. Right now, my biggest concern is crawling. I just don’t know if I should be worried at this point or not. He also hardly rolls over. He can roll from front to back but I have never seen him roll from back to front. The child will contort his body so that he is practically looking at something upside down and he can roll on his side but he cannot go all the way over. Should I be concerned?

@EmmaHubbard 2 жыл бұрын
Hi @C Ewe as your little one was born 7 weeks early it’s important to use his corrected age when looking at developmental milestones. It’s normal for babies to start crawl after 9 months or age. So there is no need to be concerned. In regards to rolling over, we would hope they can roll over by 7 months. But given his corrected age would be around 7 months or just a few weeks off I wouldn’t be concerned.

Hi Emma, my daughter is 6 months and 2 weeks and has not learnt to roll in either direction. When I move her onto her side she can complete the movement but doesn't initiate it. Everything else you mentioned in your video she is fine with. She's only just starting to be motivated by toys so I'm hoping this is what has been holding her back. The doctor said her muscle tone was fine but unfortunately there are insufficient midwives in the area to do an in person 6 month checkup. I'm worried because this is my first child and I don't know anyone whose child took more than 6 months to roll. Any advice, reassurance, other things to look out for? We try to put her in tummy time whenever she is awake but she does love to sleep. Sorry for the essay!

My 6 month old puts one arm 'always' (very often) back next to the side of his body while doing tummytime. Is that a red flag? He's doing tummy time mostly in his box with toys together. He's using both hands though mostly while playing. Is his putting arm back an indication of lack of tummytime? Is it wrong to let him do that in the box? He rolls from belly to back sometimes, but somehow is not interested to do the other way around.. when we put down a toy in distance he wants it, then loses interest because he can't reach it. I believe he is waiting that we give it to him...

Hi @Laia Ferrer Argemi because I cannot see your son I cannot say if he has torticollis. Typically bubs at this age do not have a dominant hand. But is it important to note, that bubs at this age do not reach across their body (cross the midline) to grab a toy. So if the toy was positioned on the left then they would use the left hand to grab the toy and if the toy was positioned on the right then they would use the right hand. Throughout the day start placing toys on either side of your bub's body and see which hand he grabs the toy with. If he is only using the left hand to grab the toy and play with it then I recommend you pop into an occupational therapist or physiotherapist. Hope that isn't too confusing.

She pulled up at 7 months and walked freely just before 10 months. For a while the crawling and walking looked a bit odd, because she kept her legs quite wide apart, but now she is almost 3 years old and a very active and agile girl. My daughter just turned 6months a few days ago and I’m concerned. She’s just now starting to grab for her bottle and hold it for a few seconds. I’m more concerned with the fact that she has floppy arms and she doesn’t sit up. I’ve picked her up and have seen her sitting straight up in daycare but when she gets home she just becomes limp and she doesn’t sit up she falls over. My daughter is no vaxed so I’m hoping that’s not why. If so then it will be proof enough to why children may need to be.
@Meerkat628
@Meerkat628 Жыл бұрын
For motor skill concerns, before seeing the pediatrician, find out from the daycare how she moves/plays as well so you have the full picture for the doctor. Vaccines or lack thereof have nothing to do with development. Vaccines only purpose is to prop up the immune system so your baby has immune protection against awful things like measles, tetanus(locks up your muscles, bacteria found in soil, rust, etc.), diphtheria(highly contagious can cause blood infections), whooping cough(highly contagious, can be fatal for infants and toddlers), meningitis(bacteria going to the brain) and other nasty stuff. Not getting vaccines increases the risk of serious injury or death from sicknesses that can be highly contagious and easily spread around by anyone who isn't vaccinated or could not be vaccinated(example: severely allergic to one or more of the vaccines)

Hello, My little one is 5 months old, and has hit most of these milestones. However, she does not mouth her toys. She did, at around 3 months, mouth her oball (though it naturally would not fit), but has since stopped mouthing her toys. She will reach for them when lying under her playgym, for instance, and she mouths her hands to the point that they are red and irritated from her saliva (she's been doing this for as long as she has been able to do it, despite us providing her with a pacifier). Should I be worried?
@EmmaHubbard
@EmmaHubbard 2 жыл бұрын
Hi @Ida Electra I wouldn't be worried. There could be a few reasons your little one might not mouth her toys. It is a good sign that she is mouthing her hands because that indicates she doesn't have an oral aversion. In this video I go through different positions and toys you can use with your little one at this age which might be helpful. As these positions might make it easier for your little one to start mouthing toys: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bom2qZ-hfKeYfqM If you continue to be concerned it is always best to check in with a doctor who can see your little one in person and provide advice.

I have a 6 month old who is suddenly very fussy. She was okay weeks ago and then boom… 6 month came and now she’s more difficult than ever. At 5 months, she was the most sociable baby ever, very smiley and happy. Nothing has changed so Idk what’s wrong. She would scream even if I leave her for just a minute. Can I just ask why it’s a red flag if they’re fussy for no apparent reason?

Hi @Thie C. it sounds like your little one was very settled and happy a few weeks ago. I wouldn't be concerned as your little one might be a little unsettled recently for a few reasons: - She could be teething - She could be getting sick or recovering for an illness - Or most likely she could be experiencing separation anxiety. So she might now know that you exist even when you are not in a room and this is causing her to scream if you leave her for a few seconds. This new skill is frustrating but it is a huge cognitive leap! Hope that helps!
