Hi Emma ... ironically, this is what you’ve been teaching us along BUT when I watched the comparisons, it hit home even more! Beginners always seem to struggle with the same general things like evenly spacing things and making things in patterns. We need to trick our art brain to work around this. Fantastic idea. You are a wonderful teacher and we really appreciate you.

An excellent and authentic lesson! I love that you care about us fledglings as we embark into watercolors at an early stage. You are a beautiful, talented teacher. Thank you for caring about others and offering this lesson. 🥰

Emma this sort of 'watercolour clinic' is SO valuable. Most watercolour youtubers don't have that value-add. I am part of a patreon for another watercolour artist and there is nothing this personal and useful on there. Definitely one of your USPs!

I loved example #2, not as a bouquet, but as an example of an illustrative style. Viewing her painting from that point of view, I think it is gorgeous. Perhaps that is the style that suits her the most.

I am loving your lessons. You can teach an old dog new tricks. I am 69 and just beginning watercolors. I painted with oils for years but I am so excited about this new form. You have been so helpful and you have brought great joy into my life. Thank you. I may even join Instagram just to know more. Now back to what you are teaching. Keep up the great inspirational work.

Completely with you on art critiquing UNLESS you're being asked to comment about intention vs results. Art is such a personal thing - all you can offer is your interpretation of a piece, not whether it's actually good or not.

YES this is TREMENDOUSLY helpful!! Like you said there's no such thing as a bad painting, yet part of the reason I subscribe to your channel is because I love your style, and getting specific about how YOU achieve the effects in YOUR artwork is so much more useful because it's much less generic and is immediately applicable
@chickeyd95793 жыл бұрын
You have definitely hit on a great way to teach! When I watch you, I feel like it's just' magic' and I can't see what I'm doing wrong.... but when I see specifically how others struggle, it reall starts to feel 'real'.

That tutorial was sooooo informative and so needed for me. I was not getting the layering and shading concepts. I learned to go from light to dark! This adds the definition and contrast that I was looking for in my work. Thank you EmJ !!! Your teachings are so well worked through and the pieces that your other followers sent in were representative of my exact struggles with Water Color Painting right now!!! Thanks, you helped me out a great deal.

You have an amazing ability to zero in on what is keeping an artist from achieving their goals. I can see the problems, but until you point it out, I can't see how to fix it. It's a little like magic! Very helpful video. I look forward to more like this.

I agree with an earlier comment, in that even though you already address these issues as you create during your video, this format really does provide a different perspective that drives home how the technique you show us addresses these common issues. Please do more!!

Definitely would like to see of this type of video - it's always a great help when an advanced artist deals with the practical problems that beginners often face in applying (or even understanding) basic techniques.
@jaclynmarie793 жыл бұрын
Funny thing for me is, I KNOW all these concepts. I studied fine art in high school and college, and am trying to get back into it 20 years later. I never really gravitated toward watercolor back then (I was a pen & ink, pastel type of artist). I recently just took an 8-week watercolor course at a local art gallery. Even though I KNOW these concepts, applying them is easier said than done. And not getting frustrated when you make mistakes over and over!!! Wasting paper and supplies :) I appreciate the time you took in this video. It was interesting to include your Instagram follower's submissions. I just went and followed you on Instagram myself. Looking forward to more videos as I keep on going (frustratingly) with my watercolor. Thanks!!!

Yes, so helpful..some of the same issues that I struggle with. I agree that you have told us many of these tips before, but it really helps to have examples.
