Your demonstrations and step by step instructions are perfect for me-pretty new to painting. Rather than experimenting with random outcomes as I’ve been doing, I’ll now be able to approach my painting with more purpose and the results will be so much better! So glad I happened upon your videos. Thanks, Emma!

Hello Emma, just wondering if you would consider adding another playlist to your collection? That could be entitled ‘ Painting with Cotman’ or something similar. The reason for my request is that I quite regularly refer newbies to your channel because they have purchased Cotman and they second guess their purchase when they visit most channels, feeling they almost instantly have to upgrade to professional artist paints in order to do good art. Your early videos were very inspiring to me, when I started painting- especially the mixing and colour matching etc. using that brand. If those videos were bundled and easily accessible, it would be such a valuable resource!

I second this I bought the cotman tubes so I would so appreciate that!!

She always used Cotman watercolors in all of her videos a little while back.

This would convince them that material is ALL in watercolor... which is false! Student grade material is only a little less effectivement, that's all and how many brands it concerns? Tons! Muscle memory and pratice.... them upgrade...

I just saw a video where the artist used salt to make a dandelion seed puff . She spread a ring circle of salt with a few grains of salt off to the side to represent the blown away seeds. Then she painted the center of the seed ball inside and connected the puffs with the thinnest lines to the center ball. The flyaway seeds weren't connected. It turned out absolutely beautiful. The dry brushed mountains was an aha moment of understanding for me. Thanks.❤

Thank you so much for this beginner series, i have learnt so much. What was so helpful for a beginner was being able to see your water jar, the consistency of your mixed paint and your kitchen blotting paper as well as what you were painting. I could see how all of these elements combine to create just the right recipe of pigment and water. I realised i was not blotting my brush enough on the kitchen paper, resulting in too much water, messy blend lines land lack of control. Absolutely love all of your techniques! 😍🌸

Thank you Emma for these. As commented on another video I struggle with how much water to paint ratio. Something I think I’ve got loads on my brush only to find to nowhere near enough and others there’s far too much. No matter how many times I try it always ends up this way. I’m using 300gm cotton cold pressed paper and really good brushes. 😮and when making shadows I end up with hard lines even after softening with clean brush.

How do you know the difference between staining and non staining colors? Just practice with the paints??
@PaintAndDrawTogether10 ай бұрын
The sure way is to learn pigments that have staining properties and check the paint you use if it contains them. Pthalo blue (PB15) and green PG7, PG36, PV19, PV42, PV23, PY151,PY110, PO73, PO71, etc. all are very staining and transparent. More opaque colors with bigger pigment particles tend to stay on the surface of the paper and are less staining and more granulating. The other way is to test the paint you have. I hope this helps.
