Wow. So, in reality, there is no reason why TVs today couldn't be configured to use a removable form of the eMMC chip so that if one ever failed, it could be easily replaced in the field by an end-use or by a field tech. Very interesting! Thank you for this great video. Really well done.

Nice idea, today i reflowed a 64G chip and after the 4th try it worked. With every addition reflow one or more io pins started to connect. Without the protection diode check it would be very hard. Maybe I should order a better flux. What capacity do you use on C1 and C2? Do you use the same capacity for both ?I used 220nF. Greetings from Vienna.
@voltlog3 жыл бұрын
I used 1uF on both, because it's what I had around but it's best to follow the manufacturer recommendations. Check the datasheet of the eMMC chip.

I don't have much experience with smartphone repair world. If it's one of these separate eMMC chips, electrically it should be the same interface, we just need a different adapter board. However if they are using a "sandwich" of CPU+RAM+FLASH it could be a different interface and the information could be encrypted. There are a lot of variables here.

@voltlog3 жыл бұрын
I could test it using my Joulescope but I expect the numbers to match the ones specified in the datasheet.
@AleksandarTrifunovic3 жыл бұрын
@@voltlog Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of power consumption of the overall system e.g. rpi with sdcard vs emmc. It's hard to estimate this from datasheet although certainly possible. Recently I was measuring rpi's power consumption with different sdcards and realised they are a big power hog and exceeded my (simplistic) datasheet estimations.

Could someone tell me why are the tracks zigzag like that? Why is that required for the data interface?
@Adi-lv9bo3 жыл бұрын
As exemple... in high speed data, if track lengths are not the same, clock or data signal will not match and will create errors created by delays of the longest track. This can be corrected in software, but will result in lowering the speed.
@voltlog3 жыл бұрын
The higher the speed on these buses the higher tolerances you have to meet between clock/data lines so propagation delay starts to play a role. By making squiggly lines you ensure all lines have the same light and so signals propagate through those lines with the same delay (i.e. arrive at the other end at the same time). However in this particular case, given the short distance and the not so high bus speed, they were not really necessary. I just did them as a good measure and for practice purposes.

Do you think i may be possible to remove and solder it to a pcb like this to recover data (baby photos)? I would suggest sending it in to a professional data recovery shop. Don't limit yourself to local, you can also ship it internationally. This is not a trivial task, special equipment might be needed to recover your data.

If someone is building an IoT device, they would just solder the eMMC directly on the board, that's the whole purpose of eMMC (embedded MMC) to save space.
