You know the ironic (and awful) part about Ego's relationship with Meredith? I think Peter only managed to have celestial powers because Ego actually had genuine feelings for her, but he never understood that and thought she would get in the way of his "life's purpose".
@Logan_Baron
@Logan_Baron Жыл бұрын
That makes a lot of sense, especially with the way Yondu said that he contolled the arrows with his heart (thus his feelings) so it makes sense that they are saying there is power in those feelings that can manifest physically.
@loganbigmo
@loganbigmo Жыл бұрын
Before the Mantis familial revelation, I thought maybe Quill might've been the only one to have powers because he was the only kid allowed to age past puberty (which in the case for mutants is when their powers manifest). Ego was having Yondu deliver kids to him, and then killed them when they failed to display powers. But Mantis' existence disproves that theory.

@@loganbigmo Mantis seems to be several years younger than Peter, and Peter also never figured out the powers himself. It's possible that developmental age is ~30, or that Mantis never displayed the powers as a child and any that might've developed were repressed by her awful environment.

Not at all. To each his own and if you don't like it, you don't like it. That's OK. But some of the comments I heard like this movie didn't have any heart like the first one did, were unfounded and made me feel like some people were falling prey to the feeling that no sequel is as good as the original and predetermined that they weren't going to like it.

Before I watched this movie, I never would have guessed “I’m Mary Poppins y’all” could choke me up. I got to tell you I identify with Drax more than any other character. I too just say what’s on my mind and frequently offend everyone around me. When she was little, I don’t think a week went by when I didn’t say something that made my daughter cry (completely unintentional). Fortunately, she was (and is) such a daddy’s girl that we still have a close relationship even in her teen years.

And at 17:06 he said he is a celestial, which is the species that The Collector in gotg 1 showed us, that giant being with a staff who destroyed a planet with the power/purple infinity stone. And "Knowhere", the place where The Collector was which is a giant skull is a severed head of a celestial. One fascinating thought I just had about Groot is that in the first movie, he was like the moral compass/protector/caretaker of the group. He was the glue that helped keep them together. Every time they wanted to turn on one another, Groot was there to mediate. Now Groot is young again and still the glue but in another way. Now the group is working together to take care of and raise Groot. It's possible that subconsciously, Groot is a strong reason of why they refuse to split no matter what.
@itsDrakoRP
@itsDrakoRP Ай бұрын
And not to mention in GOTG3 he kinda returns to that protector role after growing up. You could argue that Groot is like the combination of every Guardian. Heh as the humanity of Peter, the ferocity of Gamora, the heart of Drax, and the determination of Rocket. We are Groot.

20:18 this line makes it really clear why Peter never went back to Earth. He’s had access to spaceships pretty much this whole time. Am I the only one who thinks sean gunn is highly underrated, both in the mcu and specially in hollywood as a whole? As any other human with feelings, yondu's funeral leaves me in tears, and I'm quite good at holding them down for a while, but it's always his reaction when he sees the rest of the ravangers that finally breaks me. I'm not an actor, but I'd think conveying both sadness and happiness at once with a single yell, without any words at all... I don't think that's just "I got this job because my brother is the director". Of course that's why he got the job. As I said, I think he's being overlooked by hollywood, but I don't think james gunn is doing him a favor by casting him as much as he's doing US a favor by showing us what he can do. Anyway... I believe what makes the guardians movies great is james gunn's heart, and I think the actor that most conveys the gunn heart is, not surprisingly, the other gunn.

Hey, Emme! Slapstick and sentiment are what this franchise is about! Much like Vol. 1, "Guardians Vol. 2" was an acquired taste for me since the characters differ so radically from the '90s Valentino era and lack the nuance of the '00s Abnett/Lanning era. I take science fiction very seriously. Its deeper themes and allegorical references resonate deeply with me making it a challenge to immerse myself in these goofy antics. The plot centers on the mystery of Quill's parentage revealing that he is half-Celestial whereas he is half-Spartoi in the comics, a prince of one of Marvel's staple interstellar civilizations. In spite of changes such as that, these movies, much like the team, prevail against all odds delivering endings that pack an emotional wallop! James Gunn earns my admiration each time for pushing the boundaries, diving deep and bringing impossible characters like Ego to vivid life! It takes a wildly creative sensibility and a deep affection for this mythology to get this many disparate parts to mesh properly and Gunn has both in spades. I cannot wait to see what he does with that tease for Adam Warlock. The production has an incredibly varied aesthetic that is a feast for the eyes including the golden realm of the Sovereign, the neon-lit tundra of Contraxia, the misty forested world of Berhert, and the lush splendor of Planet Ego. Traditionally a Thor villain, Ego the Living Planet is difficult to comprehend and challenging to render so I give Gunn tremendous credit for reducing him to a relatable stature while retaining his planet-with-a-face appearance. He does get an upgrade to Celestial status but he is his own entity in the comics. The Celestials are titanic armored space gods with Knowhere station being one of their severed heads! Despite varying from their comic counterparts, the returning cast is as game as before including Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Sean Gunn as Kraglin and Karen Gillan as Nebula. Bautista is a stand-out who continues to mine Drax for impressive comedy gold but Rooker steals the show with Yondu's gut-wrenching death scene! Also returning are a high-pitched Vin Diesel as Baby Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon who remain the only Guardians adapted faithfully except in one regard. According to Gunn, Baby Groot is the offspring of the original Groot rather than a regrown Groot retaining the same memories as in the comics. New characters are Ego, a sentient world that manifests as a man to pollinate other worlds across the universe with his essence! He is played by Kurt Russell as an expansive, avuncular aging hipster who is digitally de-aged to his 1980 likeness in the prologue. Pom Klementieff charmingly plays his empathic pet Mantis who is given a completely different personality than in the comics although she gets to keep her antennae! Elizabeth Debicki plays golden-skinned Ayesha aka Kismet who is transformed into the haughty High Priestess of a golden-skinned species known as the Sovereign. Sylvester Stallone plays Stakar Ogord aka Starhawk whose complex comic backstory is simplified to that of a respected Ravager Captain. He is accompanied by his First Officer, Martinex, a crystalline Plutonian played by Michael Rosenbaum of "Smallville". Both represent a nod to the Valentino Guardians of the '90s. Chris Sullivan plays the traitorous Ravager Taserface whose unfortunate name is actually an authentic deep dive into the comics! Returning in small roles are Laura Haddock as a pre-cancerous Meredith Quill, Gregg Henry as Grandpa Quill, Wyatt Oleff of "It" as young Peter and Seth Green voicing Howard the Duck seen patronizing a Contraxian brothel! In bit parts, Brit character actor Tommy Flanagan plays Tullk, a Ravager loyal to Yondu, Ben Browder of "Farscape" plays a Sovereign Admiral and Elizabeth Ludlow of "The Walking Dead" plays a distressed alien mother fleeing from Ego-matter. Michelle Yeoh as Aleta the Arcturan and Ving Rhames as Charlie-27 the Jovian appear briefly at the Ravager funeral and in one of the end-credit scenes as another Valentino tribute. TRIVIA: 1. James Gunn wore a motion capture suit and served as the model for Baby Groot's opening dance sequence! 2. Vin Diesel had actual scripted lines written for his eyes only so that he could inflect "I am Groot" appropriately. 3. The idea of a self-aware brain like Ego's spontaneously coming into existence is a philosophic thought problem proposed by physicist Ludwig Boltzmann! 4. In between Guardians films, Nebula stunt double, Olivia Jackson, fractured the left half of her face, suffered a traumatic brain injury and had her left am severed in a motorcycle stunt gone wrong! 5. The Zune was an actual Microsoft digital music player developed in 2006 that was discontinued due to its lack of popularity! EASTER EGGS: 1. When Peter is granted cosmic awareness by Ego, his eyes fill with stars and he says he sees eternity. This is a reference to Eternity, the personification of the universe in Marvel comics, who appears as a silhouetted humanoid whose form is filled with starscapes. 2. The larger replacement head-fin that Yondu wears makes him look more like Centaurians do in the comics. 3. Cosmo the canine cosmonaut and Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster from "Thor: Ragnarok" are seen in the credits themselves frolicking. 4. Among Stakar's reassembled Ravager team in the end-credits is Krugarr, a red, serpentine alien from a species known as Lem. He is a member of the '90s Valentino Guardians and the 31st-century Sorcerer Supreme! 5. Seen listening to Stan Lee are Watchers, a race of observers who monitor all that transpire in the universe but never interfere. Uatu is the Watcher assigned to Earth who observes us from his dwelling on the Moon. 6. According to Gunn, this film occurs just months after the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" meaning it is set chronologically before "Avengers: Age of Ultron". CAMEOS: 1. Ego momentarily transforms into Peter's imaginary concept of his father, David Hasselhoff, who appears as himself! 2. Miley Cyrus voices the disembodied robot head Mainframe in the Valentino tribute end-credit scene. 3. Stan Lee appears in a spacesuit regaling a group of Watchers about all his cameos when Rocket, Groot, Yondu and Kraglin are jumping through space! END-CREDIT SCENES: 1. Kraglin tests his ability to control the repaired yaka arrow but misfires puncturing Drax whereupon Kraglin sneaks away. 2. Sylvester Stallone's Stakar Ogord addresses a reassembled team of Ravagers from different clans who collectively represent the Jim Valentino Guardians of the '90s. They include Michael Rosenbaum's Martinex the Plutonian, Michelle Yeoh's Aleta the Arcturan, Ving Rhames' Charlie-27 the Jovian, a CGI Krugarr the Lem and Miley Cyrus' Mainframe the A.I. who is a character from the tertiary MC2 universe but is nonetheless included. 3. A frustrated, vengeful High Priestess Ayesha monitors a birthing chamber she claims will produce the next step in the Sovereign's evolution calling it 'Adam'. This is a tease for the introduction of Adam Warlock! 4. Quill scolds a now-teen Groot to clean his vine-littered room to which he replies with obnoxious, disrespectful iterations of "I am Groot"! 5. Tired of Stan Lee's prattling, the Watchers wander away leaving the old boy stranded in his spacesuit on the desolate planet. The next chronological stop in the MCU are the "I Am Groot" shorts, 'Groot's Pursuit' and 'Magnum Opus', which occur before the teen Groot end-credit scene. They are followed by Episodes 11-19 of Season 2 of "Agents of SHIELD" but be sure not to miss the "GUARDIANS' INFERNO" music video to see the whole cast out of make-up at a disco with Stan Lee, James Gunn and David Hasselhoff! It is located on the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" blu-ray, DPlus as an Extra or on KZbin.

I totally thought you got done for copyright when the sound cut out after 5mins. I kept skipping forward but there was nothing all the way to the end. Then I realised my Bluetooth headphones had randomly connected even though they were in the other room 😂🤦‍♂️

Zardu Hasslefrau... That always gives me the giggs. God I fucking love Pom Klementieff. She is a true joy to watch. She plays the PERFECT innocent little thing. I'm almost positive I read James Gunn saying something like "Yeah this movie would have been R rated if groot had real subtitles." He eluded to it at the end with Yondu, but I recall him saying that almost every other word from groot was an F bomb. I get emotional for all the wrong reasons in this movie. Some of them for the right reasons... but in the sense that I'm an empathetic person... I cry at the end of this movie, because I'm so pissed off that people have good relationships with their respective fathers, and it hurts that I'll never feel that way. But also I know how it feels to lose someone so close to you that you love... which also hurts... if that makes sense...

Emme if I can make one spoiler free recommendation, it would be remember those big-headed guys Stan Lee was talking to, one of their race will become an important character down the road, but it will be a long time before you see him so you may want to note it. And technically where you are in your watching you have seen one small crossover between the Guardians and the other Marvel movies... in the first one the Guardians when to the Collector's shop, which first appeared in the second Thor.

I like how you end with don't get arrested, from someone I can't imagine getting arrested. Going even further, you don't tell us to not commit crime, so as long as I don't get caught, I'm good? Awesome. 😆

I haven't watched guardians 3 yet, and I need to, but I think I liked the first two more than the rest of the MCU because of the nearly singular focus on the title characters instead of a focus on how everything fits into the phase. I know the first one had the stone, but it really was character-driven. Also, the tone shifts are really incredible from Gunn. The first opened up so bleakly with the death of Peter's mother, which I remember shocking me and jolting me because of how it was marketed, but then it became lighthearded for nearly the rest of the film. Then, in the second one, it seemed like it was going to be focused on more of the same lighthearded, irreverent tone, but then there was a hammer dropped in the form of the revelation about Ego killing Meredith. That ending was actually quite somber.

I wish that we could post images in the comments. Ego in the comics was a living sentient planet with a face on its surface but he wasn’t a Celestial.It’s interesting the changes they make for the movies, a celestial in the form of a planet that can make extensions of itself

Umm... Emme... I hate to break it to you, but as of the time of this video's release (no idea when you recorded it, though with you being four to five weeks ahead on Patreon, that's a good indication you made this before Guardians 3 came out XD)... the third Guardians movie has already come out ^_^;; It came out on May 5th, and I'm really excited to watch it. Still, you _are_ still making good progress in the MCU, so don't lose heart! But yeah, this movie hit like a sack of bricks when it came out... seeing as (even then) I was the step-father to a really awesome kid, who had suffered the misfortune of having... a pretty awful "first dad" (as we called it). Not Ego bad, but still pretty awful of a father. Things may not have gone the smoothest since then, but still. I hope that she's able to find value in the things that I've done for her as a father in the long run. I mean, I didn't have her crawling through vents, or anything like that, so I don't have as much to apologize for as Yondu, but yeah XD Yondu is, hands down, my favorite character in the movie, and I love what he brings to the whole experience. Also, you could legitimately just blitz through all of the I Am Groot shorts on Disney+ now. You are far enough in their story for all of them to be non-spoilers.

Darth Vader’s story would have been so much better if it was him willingly that changed his human body parts for robot parts, for performance and as a show of disgust or disrespect against humanity. Even here Nebula being punished is so much better than she just having an accident. When I first watched the first Star Wars, based on Obi wan saying; “he is more machine now”, that gave me the impression Vader’s parts were changed over time, therefor it was Vader’s doing. Like, every tine he felt his body placed a limit on his fighting he would replace it.

"They seem like some interesting folk" They are based on the original team that used the name Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics, that was set in the future, before they remade the name with a new group with Quill, and them that the movie is based on.
