But, interestingly, I love the way that the writers have scribed the show, and integrated Brendan. He's a man, and his anger is intertwined with his pain, infusing both with his intelligence, personality, and his means - creating rage. Rage is all to often not done well, because its seldom built well, narrowly portrayed well, and minutely intricate to effect in a character. The writers bring us the story, but it's Emmett that breathes this thing life, and he does that fantastically.

I love how Joel just sucks at everything. Instead of pouring gas on the "body" and setting the cabin on fire from the inside, he locks it up tight and sets the cabin on fire from the outside. #logic I wish soap operas would try to be a little more realistic and allow their characters to have some common sense but then we'd miss out on gems like this so... I always feel bad for Joel because he was a good kid who just wanted someone to love him, someone to look up to, and he ended up getting involved with the wrong people. His life has been a roller-coaster ever since.

Joel is such an incompetent whiny boy, who just complains about owning half of the club. With what I'm feeling for Seamus right now I believe I would've done a more successful job than Joel. Usually being a calm and peaceful person this is an alarming thought, I admit, but true nontheless.

Then you weren't paying attention to Ste's character arc either. Ste is so completely different from who he was two years ago. And the heart? It's unfathomable. He loves Brendan. He's in a position now, psychologically, emotionally and professionally, where he can make his choice and live with it. Ste can also, should he choose, end things with Bren.

@greymushroom1 yeah it is sad really. I wasn't sure why Brendan told that story, unless he was just telling it to make Chez think that he's trying to get along with Seamus. Something she can remember when Seamus goes missing and can't blame Brendan cause not only was he with her but was "trying" to get along with Seamus.
@greymushroom112 жыл бұрын
I wasn't being serious and also a reason why I said that. Joel has always been the want to fit in gangster, which he is not, he is just the cards he has been given in life but also he keeps making the wrong choices which led to bad results, if you want to play with fire you going to get burn. I so feel bad for him as well as I still don't think it makes alot of sense in terms of how we were shown Brendan thought of Joel, so that is on the writers imo.

Thanks so much for the latest episode! I'm sad that the father/son type relationship between Brendan and Joel seems to have been quickly tossed aside. :( Question - I see so many comments referencing Emmett leaving the show. Has this been confirmed anywhere? Or is this all just speculation? Solid or flimsy speculation? In the US, such rumors just mean contract negotiation time, with the actor typically staying. But on a UK soap, I am worried. I don't want him to go!

you don't choose who you love that's the whole point.no matter how doug is sweet for you(for me for he wasn't) ste didn't love him enough. ste did the right thing because even if he will have hard moments with B he still will be totally happy in the good ones.what is important is that B won't ever hurt him again. it's the opposite,he has self-esteem because he gets he deserves to be truly happy with the man he loves rather than be unhappy with a guy everyone thinks he's better but he can't love

I don't think it's as simple as 'Joel can't do anything right' but more like, this is not the life Joel was cut out for. It's just not. He's not as damaged or broken as Brendan - or even Seamus - and he's got too much heart to be carrying out this kind of deed. I feel so horrible for Joel right now. Like, totally and completely, he's out of his element. He's NOT his father and he's NOT Brendan. He just wants to live his life, poor bloke.

yes you are right and it is what I believe. he hinted about it and also give us the insight as to what happened imo. Cheryl assume Brendan did not taste the cake but his father brought it up after everyone fell asleep, probably did it to manipulate brendan into getting him to do what he want also because he ran away. it really is heartbreaking when you think about this little boy acting liek a scared animal, running for his life. probably thought he had a chance to escape when he was at chery's.

I have to say, that story made me sad, I think when Brendan told Cheryl about the crab, it was Brendan's way of being somewhat sentimental, as in that was the only good thing he could remember his dad had done since he knew what was going to happen to Seamus. you can't help but sympathize with Brendan, I can imagine always wondering what he did wrong as a child why his father did not love him and being confuse all the time.
@greymushroom112 жыл бұрын
with that said, it is hilarious because he is so bad at it and his record. he let Mick escape, he bailed after Mick fell, He stole Walker’s bike and rode off with Theresa. Even his prankster thing didn’t work out.
@greymushroom112 жыл бұрын
actually he didn't kill Mick. Joel is the one that pushed him by accident which he thought he killed him but didn't hence why he still has 0. Walker killed Mick, Brendan got rid of the body.

i think some ppl don't know Ste's character, I agree with you as you say. i always thought they had to soften the character so he could work with Doug. the way ste talks, he can be likes that with Brendan, one of the reasons i like ste with brendan, the character is more himself imo. Ste would not back down from Seamus, he doesn't care really lol, another thing i like about him.
@greymushroom112 жыл бұрын
Brendan has always been a man that when he says something it has a double meaning. imo and like you said, i think he did all of that for cheryl to have one memory of them getting along together. its the same with the story as well but i also think that is the only decent thing he has done for him, maybe it wasn't intentional but it was still only nice thing he could remember of them together.

I think everyone is confusing Brendan's change in his loving supportive relationships to how he's supposed to behave with people who've wronged him. He's changed for the better yes in regards to Ste even his children and sister. He's protective by nature but he's still a gangster. He's predatory and territorial Seamus was a threat he wants to eliminate the threat end of.
@davislaverne12 жыл бұрын
As far as choosing Joel Brendan does not really have cohorts or partners in crime. He only ever had Warren and Walker and these two are definite no gos, so Joel is about all he has. Given Joels track record and his behavior during this episode I think the job is far from done though.
@greymushroom112 жыл бұрын
for me, its more just the writers I blame. the fact that emmett will be exiting I think they are going to ruin whatever they can of the character for shock value and just milk it for all its worth. I was very much upset by this as well because it doesn't make sense b/c Brendan has put all on the line for Joel and almost cost him Cheryl. to an extent Brendan is a person doesn't let things go so easily so I get that but doesn't make sense he would ask this of joel.
@donnabrown83512 жыл бұрын
I wish Brendan did not plan to kill his father. He was doing so well. If Cheryl & Ste finds out about Brendan both of them are going to leave him.
@davislaverne12 жыл бұрын
I only ever needed Brendan to change as far as the domestic violence was concerned. I felt the character might lose too much if he underwent a total transformation. I also think Brendan only takes these types of actions where there is a threat and that is part of the character that does not bother me. Ste has never had much of a problem with Brendan's business dealings except when he involved other people and considering what Seamus has done I think he would forgive the attempt, so I'm good.
@MacBig21212 жыл бұрын
Murder is NOT justifiable revenge, you guys are nuts. it doesn't matter what Seamus did to him. The church or even Ste can't change a monster when there are much more and better ways to reconcile with childhood trauma.

I don't think Seamus is dead, first off Joel didn't pour the gasoline on Seamus or even inside the barn for that matter. He closed the hatch and poured it on the door and the entrance. My guess is that Seamus will wake up from the fumes and try to find a way out. Who knows maybe that's what Joel really wanted, you can tell he really didn't want to go through with it.

I think it makes sense he's use Joel for this because there's no connection between Joel and Seamus. Who else would he have used that wouldn't turn on him? If he did it himself there would have been motive. I think the writers will use this as a catalyst for a bigger story for Joel these events must be leading to something very significant for him like maybe the return of Warren Fox? It's a disgusting thing to watch at face value but going deeper in the characters makes it riveting.

He could have just had Doug killed or did it himself but Doug didn't pose any danger to Ste himself or anyone else Seamus did as did Danny Houston and Warren. Like I've said before even Mobsters have families of their own that are healthy and loving.

I saw it as another story that brendan has to made up for cheryl like he was telling something in a different way as it happened, especially when he said "it was our secret" it gave me bad vibes because that is what usually abusers tell the kids to prevent them to confide in someone

it's not rocket science, it's because they love each other, ste forgave him for the beatings and doesn't care he is a murderer so what's the problem? doug wasn't a better choice because ste didn't love him in a real way it's simple as that
@greymushroom112 жыл бұрын
so b/c doug is a sweetheart means Ste has to be with him? I agree Doug would be the better choice and possible things were different Ste could love him full heartedly but Brendan is his choice. Damage ppl deserve just as much chance as anyone else its but if they are willing to move forward.

yes, definetly joel isn't the right person but I guess from brendan's point of view there is no one else he could ask to, in a paradoxical way it's exactly because of the relationship they have. I think brendan is sure joel isn't going to betray him and that he ows him for the mick thing while he wouldn't trust other people
@tlw1121712 жыл бұрын
i don't think Seamus is going to die, someone is going to save him. i have a sneaking suspicion that Joel went back in and saved him...he doesn't have it in him (or the stomach) to kill anyone, or maybe even Ste might save him. i don't think the writers would give Brendan an easy out like that. hopefully someone on the writing staff is going to make it so that Seamus lives so that all his dark skeletons "come out" out the closet. Brendan is going to have to face an even uglier truth...

I"m really upset about this development. I mean, we got a changed Brendan in Dublin, something that had been building for the last few months and to see it all eradicated because of Seamus? I'm just heartbroken. For Ste, for Brendan (because all that progress gone) and especially for Joel. I REALLY don't like this. AND I screamed at him to tell Joel WHY!!!!
Importantly I don't condone murder if it comes back to breaking Stendan!!! Lol
@greymushroom112 жыл бұрын
of course it isn't and I wouldn't condone it the same but I can understand as a show, people will express something as killing just to axe a character especially when they are wrong. doesn't mean anyone is nuts. I find it interesting however and do agree with you about Ste or church. it will up to him to make the choice. I love Brendan but he is a tragic cause, with that said it is still riveting story and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
@encchick212 жыл бұрын
There's scads of evidence to show that Bren knows Joel's not cut out to do this. just...SCADS. I fully expected him to want his dad dead, I don't like that he's asking Joel, who is so clearly not cut out for it - a fact of which Bren is more than well aware. I never expected Bren to NOT be a gangster. I never expected him to go soft (my GOD a soft Brendan would be so boring!), but given how he feels about Joel? this development is just...I don't know...OFF.

That simply cannot be how it plays out. It's never that easy in soap world. Somehow that abusive perv must survive...either he just doesn't die or someone saves him.
