Hey emmie I am not sure if you will actually see this but i wanted to say it anyway I’m in my senior year in highschool and for the entirety of my life i thought i would get into a stem major, and thats what everyone thought too looking at my grades. But for some reason 3 months before university applications started I became very unsure of what i wanted and who i was. While i was on my journey of exploring myself and what interests me i came across your channel, and you along many other book youtubers encouraged me to apply for an English major which really was unexpected to those around me as well as myself, i was shocked. I finalized my application recently and i ended up applying for an Enlglish Linguistics major, hopefully I’ll be able to continue into translation field too. I do wonder if i made the wrong decision of going into something entirely different than what i expected myself to get into, but right now while i was watching your video, it was a kind of a reassurace. I know it wouldnt be easy but hopefully I’ll be able to fall in love with it just like you are. Thank you so much emmie, you did change my life, and I’m sure many others as well ❤

I wish I had gotten to Emma's channel sooner. I did end up majoring in STEM and I hate it. I realized that perhaps I am better suited to linguistics of some form a little too late because I am already in my fourth year of this uni course. I am determined to find a work around through maybe a research career in academia until I finally get a career in the literary field because life is too short to be unhappy while fulfilling other people's expectations. So happy for you that you found yourself sooner. Wishing you the absolute best!!

Okay this is amazing!! Thank you for this comment, absolutely made my day and I’m so happy and excited for you:’) I know it’s not easy - I wasn’t exactly planning on going into Lit either but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Wishing you all the best and cannot wait to hear your updates 💙

I saw a couple of comments from people saying Emma’s videos are inspiring them to study literature in university. I would like to say this channel is inspiring me to study or at least explore and enjoy literature in retirement! I was a STEM career person, but am now interested in literature and history as an older adult. I am loving the Game of Tomes reads, although I’m severely behind on Brothers Karamazov as well.

“Awwwwow- OOF” at that price tag was so relatable lol. Also, I’ve loved Shakespeare since I was a kid so I was prepared in high school, and the way my English teacher taught our class Romeo and Juliet I think is the only kinda proper way to teach Shakespeare to high schoolers. We listened to the play while reading along instead of just reading silently, and so many more people understood it. Then afterwards we went to a Romeo and Juliet show with an interactive Shakespeare troupe who would jump into the crowd and things; it really brought it to life and so many people in my Deep South rural class suddenly loved Shakespeare. ❤ and it was because we had a great teacher who wanted to make sure they actually understood rather than just fulfill an assignment. Blessed are the English teachers.

Yes this is the way to do it. Bring it alive in an engaging way, but still when you’re young and developing interests. I had a teacher that did that with opera for us in 9th grade, and I love opera and classical music to this day. I wish I had better literature teachers in school. I’m 60yo now and playing catch-up with literature and history.

Haha when my library got rid of late fees I completely stopped trying to return books by their due date and just keep them for as long as I possibly can. Although my library has a policy that if you keep books for 10 days past it's due date your card is blocked and if it it's overdue for like 21 days they'll fine you the full price unless you return it.

The frogs are so beautiful and their ponds look like they came directly from a fairy tale. I have two video requests/ideas. One is a dedicated thesis planning/writing vlog and the other is a video about books that changed you/affected you the most. That could include books that were your introduction to certain genres or books that have characters who influenced you or books that got you through hard times. I'm always interested to hear about books that came to people at pivotal times.

I'm with you concerning Romeo+Juliet, that movie is also one of my favourites! You could make videos where you analyse certain books more in depths, and walk us through the content of your school papers for example, talking about motifs, themes, analysing the prose via some quotes... Personally, I would find that really interesting. Your videos take me back to my literature studying days and I really enjoy that about them. When are we going to meet the new cat ???

Ever since I first encountered the spellbinding "Playing Shakespeare" series, artfully presented by the brilliant John Barton and featuring the extraordinary talents of Patrick Stewart, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, David Suchet, and Ben Kingsley, etc I have loved Shakespeare. It was during my time at secondary school (year 8) that this transformative experience unfolded when it was introduced to me by my teacher, forever altering my perception of the Bard's works. Prior to that day, Shakespeare had failed to ignite a spark within me.
@abbysands9510 Жыл бұрын
I firmly believe that the true enjoyment of Shakespeare's works necessitates the presence of a mentor, teacher, guide or someone who can ignite adoration and passion within us. Reflecting upon my own journey, had I been deprived of the inspiring teacher who kindled my love for the Bard's creations, I am certain that my current fervour and ardour would not burn as brightly.

@@abbysands9510 i am glad that you have a good reading experience journey. when i met shakespeare for the first time i was in the secondary school. since as a astudent i was known as a book nerd and classics enthusiast my teacher recommended me Macbeth from Shakespeare even though my native language isn't english. at that times i tried to read the translated version to my language too but tbh i hated it so bad i didn't try to read his work for 10 years hahahahhah now since i am better at english and i learned more and more about history about his work i am trying to read and evaluate his works from a different perspective. At least now i am enjoying his form of art in a mature way
