one book I highly recommend is The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It's a debut novel and starts out as a slow read, but once you get into it, you can't put it down. It's about 3 generations of historians (more or less) who realize that Dracula is still alive and they try to hunt him down.

I recommend this allll the time and never see anyone else talk about it! I’m glad someone else loves it as much as I do. I first read it in high school right when The Twilight movie was being made and felt it was so so superior to Twilight.

Ok so I’ve been trying to read through the Bible (not for any religious reasons, but out of an unfortunate sense of masochism and a desire to find all the biblical monsters) and Dinah’s chapter is one of the few chapters I actually enjoyed because of the ridiculous (and successful) plan her brothers come up with as vengeance. I keep telling the story to all my friends, I’m glad to see the author also agrees with my fascination

Oooo so exciting you are getting more into romance. It’s a fun genre. I would like to hear the tropes and vibes you like and are looking for. I have always generally liked the romance genre, but I have read more of it this year than any other. If you haven’t read The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood I definitely recommend. It’s super hyped, but I think it was well worth the hype in my opinion.

So interesting that you guys watched Schindler's List in high school. I think a lot of German classes here do that as well, but mine never did. The description on the back is a bit misleading, though. There were people who saved more Jewish lives in WWII. In particular a Swedish diplomat called Raoul Wallenberg, who later died in a USSR prison. The history nerd in me just needed to mention that, haha. Also, Neon Gods sounds really good. Never really read much romantic fiction myself, but now I'm getting interested, thanks to you 👀

Bret Easton Ellis finished Less Than Zero while a student at Bennington College. One of his writing professors there was Joe McGinniss. It has been widely reported that McGinniss suggested to Ellis that he change the narration from third- to first-person. And it has widely rumored that McGinniss had a lot more than that to do with its writing. Apparently, Donna Tartt and Jonathan Lethem were also students at Bennington during Ellis's time there. Wild.

Ohh I read Schindler's List earlier this year! It felt like an accomplishment when I finished it hah. Super good though, but a hard read. Found an old used copy that predates the movie, so it's called Schindler's Ark instead heh. I like how it's part novel, part facts, where the author will pause the story to explain when they don't know exactly how something happened, but what he wrote is the most probable.

Have you ever seen FX's A Christmas Carol? It's a darker take on the story and does some of what could not be done in the era the story was originally created in. Some people didn't care for it, but I personally adore it. It's probably my favorite adaptation I've ever seen if it, and that's saying something because I saw a statistic that said A Christmas Caral is the most redone story ever.
