Who are other classic Brazilian authors you would recommend that might be available in English translation? Things fall apart is a nuanced and often heartbreaking look at. colonialism-but also the choices that the protagonist still has power over. The title is a reference to one of my favorite Yeats poems, The Second Coming: “Things fall apart; the center cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, the blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned…” Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

I have the biggest respect for people who try to learn German because it can be a pain in the ass sometimes 😅 and your German sounds so adorable. Just one tip: the „ch“ in German words is pronounced like the H in „hue“. It‘s only pronounced as a k when the word starts with an „ch“. So for example: in „Christkind“ the Ch is a K-sound; so it sounds basically like: Kristkind (or Christmas) In „mich“ the Ch is a H (as in hue) sound. Hope that helps ♥️

Emma, a Kindle book you might enjoy is The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg. It is the beginning of a charming series with a unique magical system. I found myself doing origami while I was reading this. It has it's faults as the main protagonist becomes too powerful by the end for me, but I enjoyed the journey. It's a good quick read type of series that's perfect for Kindle.

I read Spinning Silver recently and it DEFINITELY picks up once Miriam (the MC) makes her boast about spinning silver into gold. While there are moments of action/excitement, though, it never really picks up the pace. It struck me while reading it that it wouldn't make a very good audiobook, since the prose was so atmospheric and the plot moves so slowly. I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with it. The flip side of that is we get to know the characters really, really well. And the winter setting is integral to both the atmosphere and the plot itself, being both a driving cause and a result, so I was truly looking forward to you enjoying it.

Hey there, Emma! Thanks for making another day better💞 Actually, I've already watched the video this morning, but only now I have time to write a comment. First of all, thank you SO MUCH for inspiring me to start yoga marathon. It's just day 2 for me, but it already feels extremely helpful and relaxing. As for the book picks, I'm still in classic reads, but adding touches of some modern works. Not long ago I finished "Siddartha" by Hermann Hesse. It is a classic and it's on a shorter side, but what a journey it made me go through! Honestly, I am sure I'm going to re-read this piece. Highly recommend reading it to you! The book is phenomenal: colourful, full of wisdom, life, fate, clairvoyance and life lessons you will always need. Loved it to bits💛💛💛 Also I've read a book by Armenian author Narine Abgaryan. The book is called "Three Apples Fell From the Sky". I don't think this writer is translated to English (which is so frustrsting, because she is incredible), but I absolutely loved reading her. I felt hugged by this warm, sand-coloured (is giving writing style a color a thing?) flowing-like-river narrative combined with stunning descriptions and characters' backstories. It reminded me of "One Hundred Years of Solitude", so there wasn't any chance I wouldn't love this book. I love the vibe of your videos so much! Even though we do not know each other I feel like we are two bookworm friends!! Also, not sure if you know or not, but Thriftbooks is also a great source to order books too. I usually order mine from them :)

i was honestly going to combust from the excitement when you bought dombey and son, but at the back of my mind i was like, "isn't that for later in the year tho?" and then i read your pinned comment and oh emma ♡♡♡ you're so cute. but i'm still excited for all the February books. i don't make tbrs because i'm a mood reader, but i'm currently reading to paradise, one hundred shadows, and the wind's twelve quarters. also, i've been binge watching the poirot series with david suchet and honestly it's such a comfort show.
