I'm portuguese myself and to be honest, these are pretty generic sweets, they're not really Portugal exclusive, best way to rate Portugal's snacks is to visit it and have a pastel de nata, francisinha, bacalhau à brás, malassadas (bolas de berlim) etc but she tried her best, no need to be rude with her.

zukomomo Living in Germany...but almost at the border to the Netherland and know it from there. I like the flavor of it. Its very strong but if you ate it some times you get so used to it. Then its just normal and nothing special. If you never tasted it before the combination overwhelmes you first but it really is not so bad. It has this really aromatic and spicy taste. Ok if you already dont like normal licorice then well sure then you wont like salty licorice...but that should be obvious. Think its also a matter of getting used to it. Had once some American baked beans...was called Country Style or something like that. And it tasted for me like pure sugar. I ate so many different Baked Beans Flavors...but that was to much for me. It tasted like Beans in some kind of Honey/Maple Sauce. Friends then told me that lots of things taste a lot sweeter in America then in Europe.

Emmy since i'm from Denmark I just have a comment about the danish butter coockies you talked about in the video.. Apparently they are very popular in some asian countries to buy and give away as gifts - i've never quite understood why, I don't think they're that good but just very plain vanilla coockies. We call them "Småkager" here which just mean 'small cakes'. Anyway the Pretzel-coockie you are talking about is actually supposed to look like a "kringle" which is a type of sweet yeast-dough cake which is very traditional kind of bread here in Denmark and its shape is the symbol you'll find in front of every bakery here in the country :)
9 жыл бұрын
In Portugal we also give them away as gifts! I Love those cookies! Thank you for explaining the symbol. How cool is that?!
@rooalejandre9 жыл бұрын
Same in Mexico, during holidays many people give them as gifts, they are not bad but i don't understand why so popular, maybe because they are cheap and come in those cans or tins (don't know the exact word) and everyone loves to reuse them to store some crap LOL

Nice! I never wondered why you hadn't make any portuguese edition before as you really are good at freshly made goodies. LUPO52492 I get what you mean, almost everything was made in another country although we are used to eat that stuff here in Portugal. But it's hard to send real food without it going bad. I just wished she tried Bacalhau com Natas, Bolas de Berlim, Pasteis de Nata (ou de Belém), um bom bitoque e etc.

I'm so happy to see this, Portuguese food and cuisine is so great and rich and, unfortunately, you don't see a lot of things on the internet about it. You should definitely do another one on Portugal, it would be awesome ! :D

Just came across this video. What a lovely one! Really glad you enjoyed our snacks. Sure, some weren't specifically made here, but they sure are a few snacks I eat all the time and used to eat when I was younger. What a lovely range of products you had and hope you enjoyed having a little taste of what it's like to live here. When you do come visit this beautiful country, don't forget to try our amazing cuisine. You'll find some amazing traditional dishes, I can guarantee you that. Lastly, I feel the need to apologize for some rude comments left by other Portuguese people. And let me assure you our people are really nice and friendly. But there are always some idiots who never have anything nice to say everywhere in the world, right? Hope you visit the country sometime!

We also use batata palha with some dishes, like bacalhau à brás (salted codfish with eggs and potatoes, and some olives if you like). You can also substitute the codfish for sausages (I prefer it that way) or a different kind of fish

Your Portugal taste test was awesome! My favorite cookie is a homemade cookie made by my grandmother.. It's a cream cheese cookie with a jam filling & confectioner's sugar on top called Kolacky. They're very good:)

The cookies came in the blue tin, then it seemed as though every parent or grandparent when I was a kid used the tin for sewing supplies. I'm in Boston MA!

A lot of my fellow countrymen fail to understand the concept of SNACKS and start suggesting meals or things that can't really be shipped because they would spoil. And while some are indeed imported, you did have portuguese made snacks unlike some people are claiming (batatas palha, the corintia cookies - IT'S EVEN FROM A PORTUGUESE BRAND/FACTORY people! - , the Penha candy as well). Besides you did mention you have what you were sent so there's that too.
